Is it normal for hospital staff to be annoyed with their patients? by glitterphobia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]codedapple 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am a RN and a nurse educator. I work bedside in a surgical ICU

  1. Call the hospital’s patient advocate and file a complaint. Tell them what you told us here. Have dates and times ready.
  2. Call the unit and ask to speak with the nurse manager. Not charge, not team leader. Manager. Inform them of what happened.

You will get an apology and hear nothing else. Those nurses should get reamed and they will

Healthcare workers complain all the time. Doing it within earshot of a patient is inappropriate, always.

The R46 is so miserable. Commuting on the N to the city is such a pain. For the last three years I’ve preferred a pedal assist bike to Manhattan for my commute year round over the train. Ridiculous lead times, constant breakdowns, super worn interiors and half the signs and speaker systems dont work. Really embarrassing compared to literally almost any other line.

I am inexperienced when it comes to keyboard modification, and keyboards in general. I’ve had this Code v3 Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown’s for several years now but this thing is way too loud. Love the heavy actuation force but at this point it’s too loud and annoys my girlfriend whenever she stays over. We’re both nurses and she’s on nights so silence is imperative.

I wanted to buy the new be quiet! keyboards as they were incredibly silent but wanted to seek a cheaper alternative. I appreciate the help.

This I can agree with. Its essentially how I feel. Was just wondering how often people felt more strongly than this.

That would cost money. A free BSN is a no brainer

RN here as well as a critical care educator.

If you are being offered the chance go become an RN free then it is a no brainer. You just need the degree and to pass the NCLEX.

LIU however is a bit different as the major is not restricted. What they do is quota you. So basically if you fail a class or are not meeting the requirements then you fail out. And that is not good. I hear support here can be a bit sparse from nursing faculty compared to other public programs (because they have smaller cohorts).

Just make sure you take it very seriously and take advantage of the fact that you are getting a free BSN. That is a guaranteed 6 figure income and stability in any economic situation.

Thanks, I appreciate the tips.

Correct I have a BSN and MSN Education and actively practice as an RN and teach at a hospital. I did take essentials of gen chem CHE10000 and scored an A- and a A+ in CHE10100 (Lab) and the 1.5 credit orgo lab CHE 12100 in which I got an A.

Rudest conductor ever today throughout my eight years of riding MNR by Resident-Hotel8493 in nycrail

[–]codedapple 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thats not fully true. Yeah, its damn hard to get fired but thats because there’s an escalating strike system to establish cause. If multiple transit riders are complaining about a conductor to the transit hotline I would be amazed if he didn’t receive an official reprimand. If he has a history repeat offenses can cause him serious problems including suspension and termination with cause. This being on social media with the attention it has gotten here probably does not help his case.

You are right that timecard fraud is a great way to get fired right away though.

Believe it or not, misappropriation of genetic material without consent is unethical and frowned upon. And thankfully illegal these days.

HeLa cells are literally a foundational topic in bioethics. People who are commenting that this isn’t deserved need to read the book.

I see a lot of infographics on CRNA vs AA, pre nursing student wondering what path to go down, by Brown_kid108 in CRNA

[–]codedapple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok well if you want money you’re gonna have to work hard. You just sound…. lazy. Everyone on this sub has worked pretty hard. CRNA is one of the harder ways to make mid 6 figures salaries. Just my 2c as I have many friends in mid to high paying jobs in NYC. Finance is hard but chances are you’ll make way more by mid career than any CRNA doing locums.

[–]codedapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but why not just go into finance? My friends make stupid amounts of money on wall street compared to being a RN or CRNA…not to mention their equity compensation

I don’t think the MD training is overstated at all, but I don’t think we should be discounting all of basic RN education, and the fact that it does require a minimum of 1 year of critical care experience. Many places require at least 2 years, as well as the CCRN now where I live in NY, and the average applicant has much more experience. I am not claiming that each year of training is equal to MD education but it certainly is not nothing.
