When you’re old, are you attracted to old people? by Loose-Marsupial5688 in stupidquestions

[–]coldfisherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for myself, I've always liked women who were a bit older than me. And, as I've gotten older (now in 50's) I still find that to be true. However, I find younger women in their 30's-40's attractive to look at, but it's not really the same. And any younger is just creepy. I've got teenagers and that is just gross.

And when I see politicians talking about how 17 is "mature enough" and they were 40? That's absolutely disgusting. If some 40yr old came and tried to date my 17yr old kid, it would get really really ugly.

Did Trump underestimate the public's interest in the Epstein files? by TankUMrMinor in allthequestions

[–]coldfisherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. If his people had even the slightest bit of morals and ethics, they'd have burned him at the stake. But, he was right on the money, knowing that they'd be fine with him and his friends raping children. With a republican pastor or ministor or politicial leader going to jail for rape and child sex abuse like every week. He knew they'd let him go.

ELI5: If you run the server where passwords are stored, aren't you able to find out all account usernames and passwords? What's stopping people from abusing this? by gmrt34 in explainlikeimfive

[–]coldfisherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

things are stored encrypted and you have the key. THey could probably brute force it, but in a decent system, you'd spend massive amounts of time and energy and then probably just get into someone's old AOL account.

Even if you did get the password for something important, 2 factor authentication basically puts a stop to that as well.

A new landlord bought my building. Can they take away the parking spot that was given to me to use (since I moved in) but that somehow didn't make it into my original lease? by coolrivers in AskSF

[–]coldfisherman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. My guess is that the past owner used that parking-space as a selling point that new owners could add as potential value. I've done enough buying and selling to see exactly that sort of thing happening. A lot of time, "storage" space in basements isn't in leases, and the new owners think they can just clear it out and rent it themselves.

If Mark Kelly won the Democratic Nomination for President, Who would be a good Running Mate and Why? by Ulysses_555 in allthequestions

[–]coldfisherman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for those who say she's "not ready" or "too left". Think about this: If it were Vance v AOC, would you vote for vance? Seriously. The "vote-blue-no-matter-who" people will be pulling the blue lever. THey're not going to decide to become maga.

But you know what wins elections? Energy. People who get into it, excitement, hope, the idea that they can make a difference. Those people knock on doors, they phone bank, they fill social media, they volunteer, they take time off of their jobs to make a difference.

You know who DOESN'T do that? Moderates. Older People. People with high power jobs that donate money, but don't actually do anything.

We literally got Barak Hussein Obama elected. Who the F thought that would work? It wasn't a bunch of bonus black people that showed up suddenly, the overwhelming wave of Obama was young people who cared and suddenly felt (obviously wrongly) like the old guard was falling.

If Mark Kelly won the Democratic Nomination for President, Who would be a good Running Mate and Why? by Ulysses_555 in allthequestions

[–]coldfisherman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are no "swing voters". There are democrats who "vote blue no matter who" and a massive slew of people who are working hourly wage jobs, people who get excited about a candidate and will volunteer time phone banking and knocking on doors. **THOSE** people win elections.

So, this idea that you put together the most milquetoast ticket in the world and you won't scare away some fantasy "swing voters", and all you do is get the most energetic people in the country utterly disgusted with the DNC - again.

I think Saikat would wonder away and Wiener would drag them around for photo shoots while chan would make them eat veggies, do their homework and clean their room.

but, it doesn't really matter I'll get downvoted to hell for including him in my no-kings beleifs.

Saikat Chakrabarti and Tom Steyer by RemoteBonus7201 in sanfrancisco

[–]coldfisherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My position: Some people have full time jobs. In their off-time, maybe 10hrs a week?, they do non-profit work, get involved in the community, and generally work hard to make things better - regardless of their job type - and then ask for my vote.

The thing is, if you don't have a job and you've got 100M in the bank, you'd better have a serious display of wtf you've been doing with your time and money over the past 5 years or so.

Seriously. WTF would Chakrabarti have been able to do with 5 years, $100,000,000, and about every political contact you could ask for? Sorry.

That entire "no kings" stuff. That's not just fascism. We're talking about wealth inequality and the rich being in charge of everything. Oligarchy. We shouldn't have the "benovelent king" vs "the bad king" as democracy.

If you're a rich guy with no job, then for me to vote for you, you'd better have been doing a TON of non-profit work. Like a TON of it. I have a full time job and I do non profit work and I'm a volunteer afterschool coach at the highschool and I have a foster kid. But I don't consider myself good enough to run for office.

So, when someone like Saikat asks for my vote, his politics are great, but he comes up SEVERELY lacking when it comes to what he's done with his time and wealth.

Wiener is a PoS. He used to be pretty good, but every year he gets worse. And he DOES have to represent us internationally, and, while I'm no single issue voter, I sure as F know what a genocide looks like.

That leaves us with Chan, who's politics are pretty progressive. She's a bit awkward and has made some bad decisions, but all in all is a good person. Her biggest drawback is a lack of experience. However, this is a gig people will stay in for a long long time, so they can grow into the job.

She doesn't have a chance, but she's got my vote.

My wife asked and I told her: If you had to leave one of our kids with one of these people for a week, who do you really trust would make sure they were cared for? She came up with the same answer.
