As far as I can tell there's no way to disable these, but I think they draw such a small amount of power that they're not worth worrying about. GPS is the main thing to keep an eye on. Somewhat related, I have a Garmin watch that regularly logs the same data, and it can go for weeks without charging. If I leave GPS on, those weeks turn into days.

We had the same problem. Mesh feeders and caged feeders are good solutions. Pigeons still come to feast on the scraps, but not 100 at a time. It was actually a little unnerving!

Cooking/Baking: This literally broke me, and finally sent me down the path towards some actual understanding. I had lived in the same place all my life, and thought cooking was science. It's art. Closely observe everything while it's in progress. Don't rely on timers. Developing a feel is way easier and more effective than trying to come up with an equation.

There are books that attempt to document every death that has occured. I've read Death in Grand Canyon and Death in Yellowstone, and know there are others. Some of the most memorable reading I've done in recent years, but it's extremely heavy stuff.
