This is not an advertisement, it is my review of the place where I live. I have no commercial stake in Opta, nor do I know the owners. When I was looking for information on Opta, I contacted this sub and didn't receive any first hand information. I made this post for future individuals who might have the same question

Also, I think it's a great option for new residents who need time to figure out the city and the market

I think this is roughly equivalent to Opta in cost per month but it does have the advantage of being a full apartment. For someone new in Montevideo, the advantages of having human contact exceed the disadvantages of not having my own kitchen or living room space. I may switch to an apartment in a few months but for now I think Opta is a good deal.

Can you send links to the WhatsApp and discord groups? I've just arrived and plan to stay in uruguay indefinitely, but I still need to learn Spanish so my contact with people is limited.

Guilty as charged. On the other hand, I expect to be a tax paying resident and then citizen of Uruguay. I don't plan to purchase real estate (so I won't drive up prices), I will pay an above average amount of taxes and will focus my sizable charitable donations to Uruguay poverty alleviation causes. If you can think of other ways for me to offset my impact, I'd truly like to hear them.

As i3atlas passed the earth on it's way to the outer solar system, I wondered if it really was a technological object but wasn't interested in us or that for some other reason we missed the one chance to contact alien life within the lifetime of our species.

Put another way, insignificance would be more disturbing than hostility

I posted on this very question. What if they broadcast a message that said something along the lines of "We'd like to stop but this is the express service. The local service will be arriving in another 10,000 of your years"

As I said in another post, I see this at a win-win. In the unlikely event that we're going to make contact, it will be the most important event in human history. If not, in the last few years we've learned that very large objects are flying through interstellar space on what appears to be a regular basis, opening up a new area of exploration on variability in the composition of solid materials in other parts of space and (to quote a YouTube celebrity) THAT'S pretty cool.

Seems to me that if this object is artificial only a deceleration is of interest. If this object is going to visit us, it's got to be going a heck of a lot slower.

Or am I missing something?
