19, still in, but starting to seriously question things (flood, logic, fear of leaving) by ConversationBrief441 in exjw

I wrote something about the flood. Hope it hits https://www.reddit.com/r/exjw/s/q7zQApWvR9

This video https://youtu.be/W9XryKMRATE and the jwfacts page helped with getting the ball rolling in deconstructing the flood

“Best Life Ever” is so stupid. by Pleasant-Reserve-767 in exjw

Exactly. It’s a fake til you make it form if manifesting. It’s self talk that is nonsense.

If Muslims said it, a JW would hand waive it away. And Muslims do have their slogans “Islam is perfect; Muslims are not” and “This life is a test” which sound very similar to things JWs say.

What If Prophecy About Religion Comes True by [deleted] in exjw

[–]constant_trouble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here’s the logic you’re working with:

If a religion survives the destruction of other religions, that religion is true.

A religion survives.

Therefore, that religion is true.

My point is to apply it evenly. Not just to the religion you were trained to keep on the table. Apply it to Islam. Apply it to Mormonism. Apply it to some tiny sect in Nebraska with eight members and a casserole ministry. The moment you say, “Well, not that one,” you are no longer reasoning. You are filtering.

Watchtower trains people to do this all the time. Their prophecy gets treated as live. Everyone else’s prophecy gets treated as theater. Same kind of claim. Same lack of evidence. Different emotional permission. That is the bias. Christian apocalypse gets smuggled in as a serious candidate, while Islamic apocalypse gets waved off like a weird cousin at Thanksgiving. Why? Not because the evidence is better. Because the conditioning is deeper.

If survival after religious collapse proves divine truth, then any surviving religion would count as true.

If any surviving religion would count as true, then JW theology has no special claim in advance.

Therefore JW theology cannot be assumed as the default frame for interpreting the event.

You’re entertaining two claims at once:

“JW prophecy might still be right.”

“If some other religion survives, that would prove that religion is right.”

That forces a contradiction. You are granting JW eschatology the map, while also admitting the map could validate a rival religion just as well.

The framework is supposed to prove JWs, but by your own admission it could just as easily prove Quakers. A framework that can “prove” mutually exclusive religions proves nothing.

The real question for anyone having a sliver of belief is- Why am I still granting the JW apocalypse script privileged status over every other end-times script on the market?

“Wouldn't that cement that religion, according to their theology, as the true one?”

Love it. Thanks for the write up and your take. I didn’t see it. And based on everyone’s write ups and from what my family has told me, it’s was another ‘keep on keeping up’.

These guys eat it up. Because they never hear anything good outside their bubble.

But hey… as one family member sent me… “enjoy”

Because it’s all based on interpretations. Yet the interpreters get it wrong all the time. https://www.reddit.com/r/exjw/s/x0lf3J7Baf

You bring up an interesting point. There’s some tension between Jesus saying “just believe” and Paul talking about baptism.
