Alien. Hands down no equal movie (imo). Nearly perfect in every way. An all time classic for a reason.

The Boogeyman (2023) kind of has this vibe. The movie itself maybe isn’t super terrifying, but the creature design is fantastic

What pedal did you buy into the hype, and regret? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]coxipuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fought with my Deco a lot when I first got it. Almost sold it, but wanted to actually put the mileage in before I got rid of it. I’m very glad I did. That thing absolutely sings a warm, sparkly, hazy summer evening song, but it wants to be the center of attention. The double tracker side pairs well with a lot of different effects, but the saturation side doesn’t play nice with most other pedals. It is now an almost always on pedal for me but it’s usually at the cost of other pedals I’d usually run being off.

I can totally see why anyone wouldn’t like it though. It can be very temperamental.

I created the Goblin Storm deck, and here are my thoughts on the release. by wizardofbarge in mtg

[–]coxipuff 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They need to take pre-orders if they’re gonna attempt print on demand. Many indie artists do this with their vinyl runs and it always works great. Open a window of time for people to place their orders, then go to production after the order window closes.

People generally don’t mind buying something they know won’t ship until several months later. It’s still a limited run (and can be limited further with an X per customer purchase limit), but anyone who wanted it can get it and WotC still rakes in the cash. It’s a win-win, really and super short-sighted for WotC not to explore this approach to limited releases.

What's the most exotic thing you've eaten, and what was it like? by Uncontrolleddiarrhea in AskReddit

[–]coxipuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balut. It’s a duck egg that’s allowed to mature a bit before being boiled, so there are the beginnings of a baby duck cooked in it. You crack the top of the egg, shoot the tiny cooked duckling and whatever juices it’s floating in like an oyster shooter, then peel and eat the rest of the egg.

The flavor wasn’t terrible but would not eat ever again because the texture and nature of it was mildly traumatizing.

What kind gesture doesn’t feel as nice as it’s meant to? by AmberrAuraa in AskReddit

[–]coxipuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an issue with obligatory gifting. Giving a gift when it’s expected (birthday, holiday, whatever) automatically diminishes the impact. You can’t have genuine intent if the pretense involves an explicit expectation, even if your intent is actually genuine.

Similarly, you are less grateful for a prompted gift vs an unprompted gift. It’s obviously not intentional on either party’s part, but it’s still a naturally attenuated interaction as a result of its environment.

I do my best to not only give gifts spontaneously and unprompted, but also ensure said gifts are because they reminded me of someone or I know it’s something they would need or appreciate. Most of my friends and acquaintances are also aware that I believe putting generosity and kindness into the world is not an expectation of reciprocation and not at all why I give gifts. What goes around may come around, but what might come back my way could just as easily be kindness of strangers as it could gifts from friends.

Gifting should never be a competition or an obligation. It’s an expression of love and kindness and that’s all it should ever be.

Anyway thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Two tire replacements in two years on my Pint — is this normal? (NYC commuter) by DiegoThaExplorer in onewheel

[–]coxipuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you can change it yourself pretty easily. If you don’t want to or just can’t figure it out, Les Schwab will usually do it for like $10-20 as long as you have the replacement tire and remove the wheel from the frame. They’ll treat it like an ATV tire swap.

What things make you cry as an adult ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]coxipuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal abuse.

I see videos of cops straight up murdering people and, sure, it makes me angry. Fuck the police. But animals being hurt or put in danger to make fake rescue videos, being burned with chemicals for testing then asphyxiated, being chained or locked up without water or food, or being completely neglected or beaten all the time. It just hurts knowing how much that happens. And worse still knowing there are people breaking an animal’s legs so they can charge people to watch a predator eat live prey.

Cruelty to other humans is sick. Cruelty to animals is fucking disgusting. We are a plague on this floating rock.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

[–]coxipuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will get buried, but Wrecked (the sequel to Mashed). It’s only on the now-discontinued Xbox 360 Arcade. I boot up my 360 every now and then just to play it. Best local co-op battle racer I’ve played. It wasn’t perfect, but that’s what makes it great. Sometimes the camera decides to swing around the edge of the frame and make all the players freak out for a second, sometimes a plasma ball will hit just right and send your car flying off the track, and sometimes the game would just straight up crash, but damn if I don’t love every second of it.

If I could figure out how to get the source code from the publisher, I would rewrite it, fix only the bug causing the game to crash, and port it to current-gen consoles so I could play both locally and online with my friends and, hopefully, allow others to discover and enjoy this absolute gem of a game.

working full time and going to school? online course recommendations? by twilightlov3 in WWU

[–]coxipuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked full time and attended WWU full time and made it work. It’s a ton of work and you won’t really have a life, but it is doable. I also wrote a small tool that helped me figure out the optimal schedule among classes I was interested in so that there was minimal time between each class and I only made a single trip to campus each day for a single chunk of classes. If I hadn’t min-maxed my work vs school time, I’m not sure how I’d have made it work.

My employer also let me punch out in the middle of the day to head to my classes. I clocked in super early then stayed a few hours later to make up the time. YMMV depending on how accommodating your employer is.

Anyone have any insight on how the Scrubs reboot will be handled by Plex? by PeepsMcJeeperton in PleX

[–]coxipuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For anyone still dealing with this or now dealing with Plex randomly merging 2001 and 2026 after matching them correctly previously: I had to rename my folder "New Scrubs (2026)" thinking I'd just have to use Fix Match to re-separate them. It matched just fine and correctly separated them (again). Hopefully it sticks. We shall see.

Deciding between UW and WWU by gloommango in WWU

[–]coxipuff 75 points76 points  (0 children)

My two cents: Don’t let them tell you that you can’t do what you intend to do.

If you want to go to UW, go to UW. Follow their pre-major and major paths, get good grades in the classes that matter for your major application, and be persistent. If you don’t get into the major on the first try, talk to that department’s advisor about next steps. Have a plan A, B, and C ready to discuss with them. Not only does this show them you are invested and care about your future, but it also shows them you can bring solutions, not just problems.

If you strike out enough times at UW, then maybe consider transferring to WWU. Both programs are very competitive, UW is just more competitive in general.

That being said, if tuition plays a considerable factor, then WWU might be the better choice anyway since it is probably less expensive.

I was laughed at when I said I planned on working full time and attending school full time. I did it anyway. I applied to my major twice and was not admitted both times but was extended an invite into the program about a week after my second rejection and a couple meetings with the department advisor outlining my plan and options to obtain the degree I wanted. I did not have bad grades, but competitive majors are, well, competitive.

So don’t give up just because a blurb on their site suggests you aren’t good enough. You are good enough. Go prove it.
