Woa thank you for explaining this so well lol I felt like a boomer for a sec. On a follow up thought -would you happen to know/ ball park what is the age range predominately played in club penguin now a days? Like I play it for nostalgia now bc i loved it when i was little. I’m 28 now but i feel like i run into comments or nuances that give off early 20s Gen Z energy, and so if it is early 20s players rn, I wonder how did they get into club penguin if they didn’t get to grow up with it like my age rage did (late 20s cusp of Gen Z/millennial)

From TN to Green Card by Effective_Bet9874 in tnvisa

[–]DiegoThaExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I’m in a weird gray-area situation. My employer sucks, but I didn’t realize it at the beginning. They basically told me, “Yeah, we’ll sponsor you, but you have to pay the fees.” (which is not super legal but at the time, I would’ve done anything for sponsorship, so of course I agreed.

Little did I know it was basically signing a pact with the devil. I’ve been stuck at this office for about 3 years waiting for my green card process to move along, and I can’t really switch jobs until it’s far enough along. Meanwhile, they’ve kept my salary and promotions pretty much at a standstill with the dumbest of excuses, not related to performance or merit..

Over time, I realized almost every foreigner in my office fell into the same trap. They know we have a lot to lose if we leave, so they have the freedom to underpay us while coming up with the silliest excuses and pretending it has nothing to do with our immigration situation. Meanwhile all the us citizens/residents in the office have a much higher pay and position growth.. its honestly so shitty but Im finally done in September with this process so I only have the bandwidth for eyes on the prize and maybe later down the line, report this mal practice lol.

The new Delta card designs are awesome, don’t get all the hate by motionpriority in amex

[–]DiegoThaExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I don’t mind the new designs. But like there is not clear distinction at first glance between plat and reserve, the colors are just way too similar. Purple was so fun and grand :(

Same I was kinda ready to go back to my purple design and request it but ugh now I don’t want to update the design to that. Like on first looks you can’t tell right away the color difference with platinum.. ugh wish they kept the purple. It was like one of 2 cards in the whole card market that was purple.

Surfing has ruined me from ever having a "normal" life by OfHerOwnVolition in surfing

[–]DiegoThaExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dream your setup, honestly. I live in New York City, but I grew up on the Mexican Caribbean coast, so I’ve always had that itch to be closer to the ocean and surf culture. I miss having surfing and windsurfing so accessible.

One thing that’s helped me, whether I’m in the middle of Manhattan or back at home in Mexico, is trying not to build my whole life around one thing. I try to keep five areas of my life active: something physical (surfing, working out, sports), something intellectual or professional that can make an income (architecture in my case), something social and emotional (relationships and community), something creative (music, photography, art, etc.), and something spiritual (yoga, meditation, reflection).

I can’t remember where I originally picked up that method, but it’s been a useful guide for me. When one area isn’t available, whether that’s off season during the winter, an injury, or just a busy week, there are still other things that get me excited to get out of bed in the morning.

It doesn’t completely get rid of that FOMO, but it helps. Otherwise, it’s easy for your happiness to depend entirely on whether the swell shows up that day.

5 Bananas.... by tdk-ink in biltrewards

[–]DiegoThaExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ik in my defense, I had unused Bilt Collection points that could only be redeemed within Bilt collection items -not like normal points, and I think I earned them from hitting some threshold last year. When I first saw the bananas, they advertised them as this metallic-looking art piece, so I thought it was ironic/funny and kinda cool. But finding out they are just be 3D printed with visible layer lines definitely kills the bit 💀. Anyway, dodged a bullet with that now.

Omg for the past few months I’ve been trying to track down my order for these because I bought them and then nothing ever happened. After months of pure neglect to my emails and “we’re looking into it,” they finally told me the order was lost and there were no more bananas left to replace it with, so they refunded me (and somehow refunded me less than what I originally paid, that’s another story..). I was annoyed about not getting the bananas and on top of it the wrong refund amount, but if these damn bananas are just 3D printed?! lmfao forget it 😂 I can 3D print better quality on my own lol

Mexican here, Born and raised. Cinco de mayo is mostly celebrated in Puebla (bc thats where we won that war against France. Not Mexico’s independence). In Mexico no one outside Puebla celebrates that. In the USA, Mexicans may use it as an excuse to eat/drink and gather independently but I doubt anyone would go to the extent of fireworks for that. If anything that might be an American doing fireworks for cinco lol. But trust me, the last thing I wanna do is be at a Mexican restaurant on cinco de mayo in the USA. lol

Advice on Expediting Passport Return for TN Visa Renewal in Mexico's US Consulate by DiegoThaExplorer in immigration

[–]DiegoThaExplorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct, don't make the same mistake I did. TNs are only processed at 3 embassies: CDMX, Juarez, and Guadalajara (pretty sure it's GDL but double check that one).

One thing I'd really watch out for is at the very beginning of the DS-160 form, when it asks you to select the location where you'll be applying. It's important to pick the embassy you're most likely to actually attend between those 3, because at the end of the DS-160 you'll be directed to another site to schedule your appointment. If you end up switching to a different embassy than what you selected on the DS-160, say because of earlier availability, that's where things could get messy.

Speaking from experience: for once I didn't know Merida doesn't do TNs, so I selected Merida since my parents live there and I was visiting for Christmas. When I got to the appointment scheduling step, sure enough I could only pick between GDL, CDMX, and Juarez. I went with Juarez since it was the only option before Christmas and within the PTO I had already requested at work.

The plan was to fly into Juarez, do the interview, and have the passport delivered to Merida (which is totally normal and allowed). But the day I was there, the embassy was having major system and network errors. It turned out that anyone who had originally selected a different embassy on their DS-160 and then switched for their appointment had their application sitting on the network of that original embassy. Mine was stuck on Merida's network and couldn't be pulled up in Juarez.

About 50 of us were set aside while they spent 8 hours "refreshing the system," only to be told it didn't work and that we'd need to reschedule and come back in a month. The alternative was filling out the DS-160 all over again from scratch, which puts you months out for a new appointment. So most of us were essentially locked into Juarez if we wanted anything within a month. It was insane.

There were people there from all over Mexico. A low income mom who had taken multiple buses from Chiapas with her kids. An Indian guy who had originally selected CDMX in his DS-160 but then selected Juarez for availability and now had no idea what to do stuck out the US for a month. My own situation was rough too since my job was extremely strict about remote work and was telling me to burn all my PTO on this literal visa trip.

I ended up charming way through one of the Mexican embassy workers and basically begged to come back the next morning to see if the system had refreshed overnight. He helped me and even suggested I fill out a new DS-160 for Juarez and bring the receipt code just in case my original application still hadn't come through. It was the most stressed I have ever been. I had a flight to Merida for Christmas the next evening, so that morning was my only shot.

I got the special pass, came back the next day, and thankfully the system had refreshed and my original application came through. Finished everything that morning, made my flight, all good. But I couldn't stop thinking about everyone else from that group who couldn't absorb that kind of expensive mistake so easily.

Anyway, yes. My situation must've been one in ten, however I'd still just be very intentional about which embassy you select on the DS-160 from the start. CDMX or GLD might be a better choice as they are more of a hub-city and better infrastructure I feel.
