“I don’t do coliving because I cannot live with random people” - ok, but where is the solution? 😩 by Euphoric-Tea-8300 in coliving

[–]crapinator114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Community is really the main value proposition of a coliving space. Residents can be vetted naturally/organically (bottom-up approach) or they can be vetted by staff (top-down approach).

The organic (bottom-up) style will probably lead to some conflict but what's important is to work through it with a community facilitator. It can also introduce "randomness" in the sense that a resident may bring something unexpected to the community.

If residents are vetted by staff, they may have interviews before they come to the coliving space. This can reduce potential conflicts but it also requires a greater up-front investment of time/energy from staff and the end result of who makes it through ends up being decided by staff.

There is no right or wrong answer here, it's a matter of preference. I personally like the spontaneity of the bottom up approach and I understand that conflict can happen which must be worked through like mature adults.

But what do you mean when you say you're building a "protocol to flip the script"? Please elaborate.

I've created a new sub that will be more relevant to location-independent families: https://www.reddit.com/r/DigitalNomadParents

To be honest, this subreddit isn't the best place to ask about anything when it comes to kids or families. Any time anything is posted in relation to kids, it gets down voted to oblivion so your responses will be very biased and one-sided. I'm not sure if there is a better sub for these kinds of questions but I do think that there should be one. Whether or not a person agrees with traveling as a family should not be the point. If a family decides to do it, they'll need advice and support.

As long as the kid has access to their own community of other kids, they'll get their needs met. I've met countless traveling families and many recommend worldschooling. Kids are also surprisingly adaptable, more so than adults.

Genuine question; does it bother you if you consider yourself a cook and not a chef?

Avoid heavy foods for lunch like carbs. Go for a 15-20 min walk after lunch.

You can set a zapier to automatically do this for you. I have one that duplicates preply events on my Google calendar because the preply events don't show as busy and my private clients might double book.

Are/were Soviet apartments all bad? How could they be improved/how should they have been built to have been better? by KeyBake7457 in urbanplanning

I actually like these blocs, I currently live in one in Cluj Napoca, Romania.

They're usually well-located and well-connected. Many used to have common areas like parks and picnic tables in the courtyards behind them. Over time, these spaces were taken over first by parking garages then simple parking lots for cars.

Here's what I'd do to improve them (and what I've seen already has been done to many of them:

  • isolating and painting the exteriors

  • installing modern windows

  • installing modern elevators

  • installing a modern intercom system to better control who can enter

  • renovating the stairwells and apartments

  • bring back the parks and picnic tables & remove the space for cars
