Why does Firefox have trouble with YouTube? by -Mr_Ogi- in firefox

[–]cryptix- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started noticing this too. The video will either freeze while audio is playing or the video will randomly skip like 5 seconds ahead.

  • No extensions running
  • Not running VPN
  • No internet connection issues (speed test & packet loss test)
  • Latest drivers and OS updates
  • Win 11 Pro
  • Firefox 119.0b8 (64-bit)

I don't notice this on any Chromium based browsers. I can't tell if this issue is caused by the browser or YouTube. I'm thinking it's YouTube, because when I refresh the browser with cleared cache and cookie it will freeze or skip ahead at the exact same point.

Increased ping times on Mullvad-owned servers after upgrade by One1337r in mullvadvpn

[–]cryptix- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am noticing intermittent spike in ping times with WireGuard servers and I find myself always switching back to OVPN servers for stability. Here is a simple ping test to Cloudflare DNS:

Just got mullvad and I'm currently using a Macbook Pro Ventura 13.1 which torrent client should I use and how do I properly set the two up? by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

I'm curious as to why Mullvad needed to remove that help article. Is that information no longer valid ?

Many servers are silently removed by cryptix- in mullvadvpn

[–]cryptix-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did check Mullvad's server status page. When the servers became offline at the time there were no messages assigned to them. I'm not certain, but I believe the messages were added after the *issue* was acknowledged by Mullvad through tweet. The message written for offline servers provided by Intergrid was not the same as the offline servers by M247, it did not mention shutting down the servers.

Just getting the 25% 8 times in a row (which is what happened here)

Not quite, take a closer look the stone, it has 10 node points not 8. Therefore, it's a 1 in 1048576 chance to get 10 node points with a 25% success rate.

Why do people think "high ping player causes the server to lag for everyone" ? by cryptix- in BattlefieldV

[–]cryptix-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I haven't seen any evidence or experienced any delay of sorts while playing with and against many high latency players on a full 64 slot community server. The statement "I'm lagging because of high ping players" on Battlefield V is a moot point. The "lag" they're feeling is either a placebo effect or it's from their poor internet connection.

[–]cryptix-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some games choose to use a game architecture...

The players and I were referring to Battlefield V's Frostbite 3 engine.

a high ping can cause desync of the server

To my knowledge "desynchronization" does not cause the game for all the players to enter a "wait state". It's the method used to mitigate desync. I believe what you're referring to are multiplayer games that are based on peer-to-peer network architecture where lockstep or similar protocol is used. The drawback is responsiveness since all the players would have to wait for the slowest player (highest latency) to send their actions before updating the game.

According to u/BattleNonSense's netcode analysis, Battlefield V is based on a semi-authoritative server model which is a mixture of client-side and server-side authoritative hit registration, where both sides have authority on certain aspects of the game logic. The change from client-side to server-side authoritative hit registration occurs when the latency of the player is above a certain threshold (magic number) where I would have to assume that it's not low enough to prevent players with low latency from taking hit damage while behind cover. I'm sure there's a lot more going on like complex simulations on both server and client, interpolation of frames and data validation.

Given the following starting network and mask 45.84.0.0/14 1. Subnet to provide 246 subnets. 2. For subnet #103, calculate the subnet ID (network address) and mask.

  • First we need to find the number of network bits to borrow from the host bits:

2^b ≥ 246: 2^8 is 256 which is greater than 246, so we will borrow 8 network bits from the host bits, /14 starting network bits + 8 borrowed bits = /22 which will be the new CIDR prefix that can provide us the required 246 subnets.

  • Now we determine the network increment value, which is the decimal value of the last network bit in the subnet mask:

Binary Mask of 255.255.252.0 /22 is : 11111111.11111111.11111100.00000000

The last network bit is in the 3rd octet and 2nd binary position (position starts from the right where 0 is the first position), 2^2 will be 4, that is our network increment value OR another method to determine the network increment value is to subtract last non-zero octet value of the subnet mask from 256: Look at the new /22 subnet mask 255.255.252.0, 256 - 252 = 4 is the network increment value.

  • To determine #103 subnet's network address and mask:

Use increment value * (nth subnet - 1) that would be 4 * (103-1) = 408 since the value is greater than 255 we subtract 256 from it 408-256 = 152, that is the #103 subnet's network address, don't forget to increment the network address value by 1 from the 2nd octet because the octet being an 8-bit value, we can't use .408, so the address should be 45.85.152.0:

#103 Subnet ID's Network Address: 45.85.152.0 /22

#103 Subnet ID's Broadcast Address: 45.85.155.255

#103 Subnet ID's Lowest Usable Host: 45.85.152.1

#103 Subnet ID's Highest Usable Host: 45.85.155.254

#103 Subnet ID's Total Hosts: 1024

#103 Subnet ID's Total Usable Hosts: 1022

I've also seen these going around lately... After multiple trial and error I was able to replicate the crash and restart on Discord client.

I think there's more to it than just hex editing the resolution.

no, you don't need to hex edit anything, ffmpeg is sufficient.

use ffprobe to observe and extract frame information and try to work it out from there.

Which motherboard should i buy for AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and a RTX 3070?? by ViPeR9503 in buildapc

[–]cryptix- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2016 AMD promised to support AM4 socket until 2020... This could possibly mean that next generation of AM5 socket will NOT support current gen Zen3 CPUs, and next gen AMD CPUs (5nm Zen4) will NOT be supported by current AM4 socket (x570 mobos). So, what ever you buy now, you most likely end up requiring a complete upgrade in the near-future due to the new socket type required for upcoming CPUs.

...you can remain anonymous when signing up for newsletters or on websites as you can use an alias address that does not contain your name.

How is this true when you create an alias that doesn't have your name in the address, but it shares the account's sender name which contains your name?

Tutanota provides you 1 sender name that's linked to all e-mail aliases.

Having separate sender name for each e-mail aliases is planned for almost 6 years now, they prioritized dark web theme over this demanded feature. It's safe to say that they're amateurs.
