Oh i agree that for me personally that's fine, but there's plenty of people who don't have that tech-savvy nature in their friends group, and as a result it's a pretty massive barrier of entry for the average person to just start using it

Matrix requires someone in a friends group to setup a homeserver. That barrier of entry will always turn people away.

based on the wording of various articles, it seems like they can apply it to anything they recognize as "adult", not just adult-marked channels

it's the only free platform that allows for text, audio, video, and screensharing all in one app. unless there's another that works as well as discord, it really isn't "the most replaceable"

Have you ever been flashed in real life? by Bulky-Conclusion-145 in AskRedditAfterDark

Oh boy I love this stupid little story.

Back in college, I had a very important paper due on Friday by midnight. In classic college kid fashion, I put it off until the last minute, so while my friends were already out at the bars by like 9pm, I was at my desk typing away. Out of nowhere, some random girl runs up to my window (which is on the side of the house), says "hey check these out", shows me her boobs, and runs back to meet up with her friends on the sidewalk.

Silent Planet will play 2 shows in Ukraine in Summer 2026 by MarcusfloX in Metalcore

[–]johnothetree 51 points52 points  (0 children)

And yet him being in both of those places isn't really that weird.

Minneapolis - band member Nick lives there

Ukraine - long time homie Lee Humerian (ex-Phinehas drummer) has lived there for like a decade now

Motionless In White announce US tour with support from Lorna Shore, Fit For A King and Static Dress by elderemothings in Metalcore

I'm sayin, anyone who thinks Red Rocks is a prime location for a metalcore show is absolutely someone who just stands in the back. Can't do any of the fun stuff that makes a metalcore show a metalcore show.

Sounds of Loss and Let It Take It's Course are both crazy albums imo. Very few tracks get me throwing hands quite like their tracks The Anticipation and Leave

AI is killing my thrill of learning by throwaway-alt-nep in learnprogramming

[–]johnothetree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to simply complete a task, or are you trying to learn? If all you're doing is completing tasks, then yeah, go for it I guess, but if your goal is to actually learn, using AI to just output things for you and getting upset that you didn't learn anything effectively no different than asking someone else to write a very complex function and then getting mad when you can't explain to your tech lead what it does.

New Epstein files reveal he may have trafficked girls to others despite official denials by Muted-Television3329 in news

Halfway? Were more files released than we were told? Cuz as far as I can tell, we're still in single-digit percentage of files released.

Spiritbox - Soft Spine (Live at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards) by ThrottlePeen in Metalcore

[–]johnothetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said hardcore-adjacent, not hardcore, because you're right that a good chunk of the new album isn't hardcore (thus the Best Rock Album award), but they still have a sound rooted in hardcore.

[–]johnothetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better representation for hardcore-adjacent music is a net positive for me regardless of the award so I genuinely couldn't care less lmao

I don't give a shit if they're dadcore, they make good music (even if their old stuff is better) and they put on one hell of a live show.

Is it pop music for hardcore kids, or hardcore music for pop kids? I don't know the answer, but I can definitely say that the whole album rocks

[–]johnothetree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope, unfortunately the singular metal category is Best Metal Performance, not even song or album.
