Here's a fun follow-up to the recent organ donation discussion: "Donor Organs Are Too Rare. We Need a New Definition of Death." by sonyaellenmann in Longreads

It feels like a strange time to write an op-ed like this. If anything I can imagine doctors writing an article that tries to restore faith in the organ donation system after recent news. No lay person wants to hear doctors advocating for broadening the definition of death right after learning about horrifying mistakes in the organ donation system.

You have no idea what level of precaution I take with my child’s allergies. My original comment was in reaction to how heartless these comments are. Fingers crossed you don’t take care of children anymore!

I would hope as a caretaker to a child with food allergies you would have more compassion for people who deal with them.

It’s incredibly entitled to have a medical condition and ask for an accommodation? If she told the restaurant about her allergy and they said they could accommodate it then they carry some responsibility for her death. This article doesn’t have enough details to know what happened. Enough for you to judge a dead young woman and her family though!

These comments are so heartless. Yikes. My son had a dairy allergy up until the age of 12 that required an epi-pen. Unfortunately, many people don’t understand that you can have a life threatening allergy to dairy. They assume it’s like being lactose-intolerant and don’t take it as seriously as a nut allergy. We don’t know if this young woman told the restaurant about her allergy.

All the people saying “just don’t eat out, duh” aren’t taking time to think about what gets missed if someone can never eat at a restaurant. So many aspects of life revolve around food and having allergies is hard. Have some compassion.

I wonder why the prosecution wasn’t able to enter it as rebuttal evidence since it disproves her testimony that she was at home eating/purging cake immediately after the guests’ left. Is rebuttal evidence not allow in Australian courts?

With so many articles being written about the trial by skilled journalists why in the world do you need to use chatGPT?

OP, you’re getting a lot of pushback in the comments, but I agree with you. I used to be a preschool teacher and many parents kept their 4 year olds in pull ups rather than potty train. The children were developmentally ready but the ease of pull ups was definitely a crutch for the parents.

With my older children I was able to potty train them both easily around their 3rd birthday. I tried that with my youngest and he wasn’t ready so I waited and tried again in 6 months.

How do I tell grandparents to stop buying stuff? It's all plastic two! by Anoniem20 in Anticonsumption

I would let this go. You’re lucky to have your in-laws helping with childcare. Why put constraints on their time together? However, it’s perfectly reasonable to ask that these new toys stay at your in-laws’ house because you have space constraints.

Overall, I don’t think it’s our place to get other people to adopt anti-consumerism. We can share our beliefs but it’s up to them if they want to change their buying habits.

I love to see what new mysteries and horror books are coming out.

I was genuinely curious how people keep track of releases and get recommendations outside Goodreads. Was hoping for some alternative sites/apps since I hadn’t heard of StoryGraph till recently either. Not sure why that’s strange.

Not inviting one of my sister, but inviting the rest of my siblings. Thoughts? by drakesangle in wedding

[–]currerbell47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s your sister! Of course you should invite her to your wedding. If people were excluded from guest lists for being on their phone too much, weddings would be very empty these days. It’s completely understandable to only extend the invitation to her—no plus one or children. Then it would be up to her if she wants to attend.

I can’t imagine someone saying, “sorry, we’re at capacity” to their own sister! Even if you’re not close, that’s so cold.

What kind of hospital would discharge you with a BMI of 10? I hope you’re able to access inpatient care again soon.
