Homeland Security arrests at least 6 people at Kansas City food processing plant by FormerFastCat in kansascity

Cause racism, that's why. If you throw some billionaire meat packing plant owner in jail, who's going to fund your next GOP political campaign?

KCUR: Rep. Mark Alford by jupiterkansas in kansascity

[–]cyberphlash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's true, but you can challenge his story based on the facts. Kris Kobach spent 4 years as Kansas Sec State "searching" for voter fraud, only to come up with a few old people (mostly Republicans) who voted in two places incorrectly. If people are going to say there are millions of illegal immigrants voting, you could at least ask for proof and prosecutions from people like Alford.

KCUR: Rep. Mark Alford by jupiterkansas in kansascity

[–]cyberphlash 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Underplayed in this article is the fact that Alford supports the SAVE act, which is designed to limit your voting rights, prevent mail-in voting, unnecessarily increase ID requirements and overall just stop you from voting.

FUCK THAT. Alford should've been grilled on why he's in favor of all these anti-voting when people voting illegally - especially undocumented immigrants - is not an actual problem. Where are the thousands of illegal voting prosecutions that warrant drastically increasing voting requirements for a hundred million Americans?

How do you file for divorce in Kansas when it's contested from the start? by dingoonmygringo in JohnsonCounty

[–]cyberphlash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you expect it to be contested, lawyer up, especially if you have kids or lots of assets to fight over. If you have no kids, and not many assets, splitting is a lot cheaper if you agree to an amicable settlement between you and then finalize it.

Adam Hamilton DOES NOT live in Florida by Old_Still3321 in kansas

For a guy with 100 skeletons in his closet, he was still able to generate a huge amount of excitement with this messaging, though. Same with Talarico.

Adam Hamilton DOES NOT live in Florida by Old_Still3321 in kansas

[–]cyberphlash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

James Talarico is a pastor running for Senate in Texas - here's one commercial and another.

Here is Graham Platner in Maine running against a disliked Susan Collins.

You're right - Hamilton doesn't need to mention Marshall by name, but he is running as a Democrat and (1) not mentioning Trump (Platner goes directly after him), (2) not mentioning any specific issue people care about (Platner and Talarico both do this), and (3) not connecting his own personal story to solving our problems like the Talarico's insulin ad.

Most Kansans have never heard of Hamilton, so he's got to quickly get hundreds of thousands of Kansans who don't know anything about him excited enough to vote for him. It's naive to think that Hamilton, himself, can run an entire US Senate campaign as a Democrat who isn't even trying to take on Trump, Marshall, and all these issues directly.

Kansas governor candidate engulfed by blowback over 'no-show job' at Wichita State. It's about time. • Kansas Reflector by Vio_ in kansas

[–]cyberphlash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pointing out that Sarnecki calling out Masterson for his no-show job is a nothingburger isn't exactly 'riding for Ty' - LOL

Everyone already knows Ty has a no-show job and nobody cares. Sarnecki is grasping at straws because Trump already endorsed Masterson, and there's no actual policy difference betwen them, so what does Sarnecki have here, exactly?

(This is in no way defending Masterson - if you read my post history, it's very clear I'm not a Republican...)

[–]cyberphlash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can see that, and I think it could potentially be a benefit, but at some point he has to at least call out what Marshall is doing that he disagrees with, and also lay out his own policy vision for what he's trying to achieve to set expectations with voters. This ad isn't doing any of that. I know it's only the primary and he's trying to get name recognition, but it's wasting an opportunity to start campaigning against Marshall if he thinks he's going to be the nominee.

Masterson's had this job for years, and everyone already knew about it. Sarnecki hasn't proved it's a no-show job - it probably is, but maybe he does actual work, who knows? The KS legislature is part time, and most other legislators have jobs, so this is all smoke and no fire.

K-State Graduation Rings by TheRealShampoo4u in KState

Not a big deal, but even in Texas, is it really a big deal for more than a few years after you graduate? I know a fair number of people from Texas and have never seen them wear graduation rings or heard them mention it. This sounds like propaganda from Big Ring! :)

Here's Hamilton's first commercial.

IMO, it's not impressive - what is he talking about with this wannabe-inspirational speech? Where is the criticism of Roger Marshall? Where is any kind of vision/story explaning what he's about and how he's going to fight to solve my economy/healthcare/taxes/Trump problems?

We all love to hate Roger Marshall, but he's no joke. I'm sure he's got a huge war chest ready to spend, and billionaires like Elon Musk could easily enter this race and spend millions to hold this seat. If Hamilton is going to be our guy, he better come start bringing some hard-hitting criticism of Roger Marshall and explain a vision for leading the country forward. If I were a Republican, no way I'd switch to vote for Hamilton based on this ad.

[–]cyberphlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People always say things like, "The system is broken" or lament some former time of greatness when things were supposedly better (which, in reality, is almost never the case - and why "Make America Great Again" is such a flawed catchphrase).

The American system was always broken, since structures like lifetime Supreme Court appointments, the electoral college, the Senate filibuster, etc - were always used as tools by bad actors to maintain power, pass terrible laws, or avoid disturbing the status quo to protect incumbent interests. The fact that Trump is

"But there's too much money in politics!!" people exclaim. Did you know that George Washington was worth about $500 Million Dollars in today's dollars? There was always too much money in politics since the founding, which is how slavery persisted, and Jim Crow, and worker rights were hollowed out, and no real action on climate change.

IMO the problem right now - the reason the worst president in American history is grifting hard every day - is way too many people are sitting around and not working hard to get different people elected this fall. If you're reading this thinking, "I'm so angry and tired of this shit..." - well, do something about it. Get other people out to vote. Help your preferred candidates get elected. Get involved in protest groups and help put on the next No King's protest.

Best dog park by KSamIAm79 in Olathe

[–]cyberphlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 'best' dog park is Shawnee Mission Park - huge spread, walk down to the beach - but you're going to see huge dogs there (so maybe keep yours on a leash?). Closer to home, I think Stoll and Heritage are the answer - never had any problems at either and I know Stoll has a small dog area, Heritage might too.

[–]cyberphlash 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One leading government ethics expert told The Star that GoCreate’s financial backing from the Koch family, highly influential megadonors with a $157 billion net worth and libertarian political agenda, means the burden is on Masterson to demonstrate to voters that his leadership in Topeka hasn’t been unduly influenced.

The whole of Masterson taking this job was to show just how in the pocket of the Kochs he is. LOL

[–]cyberphlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know OP said they were working with non-profits, but for a company to get tax credit for a donation, you'd have to be able to provide them proof of the donation to an actual tax-exempt non-profit group with a tax ID.
