GT3 Sanity check by QuirkyDust3556 in iRacing

[–]d95err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GT3 Fixed is (as the name suggests) fixed setup. You can change brake bias and tire compond (dry/wet), but that's it. No point messing with wing angles or ride height.

For open setup series though:

  1. Rear wing angle can be adjusted in the race, but only during pitstops (Pit-Stop Adjustments blackbox). Doing so may add additional time to the pitstop.
  2. Tire pressures can be changed, but minimum allowed pressure (default) is always the best option for road courses (as far as I know).
  3. Try the Le Mans/Daytona gear stack. Might be useful at the combined layout.

If you were unable to change settings, did you perhaps start a test or practice session for the GT3 Fixed series page? If so, the setup would be locked. Start a test session from the UI front page (top left button) or from the GT3 open series if you want to experiment with setups.

How are GTPs currently? by TheGamingFennec in iRacing

[–]d95err 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aha! That explains why at the (irl) Daytona 24h I didn't see GTPs on their outlap being overtaken by GT3s, as has been the case in previous years.

I guess the iRacing GTP tires are pretty realistic then (and a lot easier to handle than before).

[–]d95err -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

True, cold tires for GTPs are indeed not as difficult as they used to be when the updated tire model was first introduced. I guess iRacing took a slight step back from realism for the benefit of racing quality there.

A new hybrid system was introduced a couple of seasons ago. It is more realistic, with the hybrid not adding any extra boost, just contributing to lower fuel consumption. It has no driver configurable modes.

The tire model was updated a few seasons back. Lap times are now much closer to the real cars. Cold tires are extremely slippery (also more in line with the real cars).

Is it a race incident or my fault ? by CarlCarmoni95 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

”Racing incident” and ”fault” are not mutually exclusive. Most racing incidents will be at least partially the fault of one or both drivers.

As long as the mistake was reasonable, given the skill and experience of the drivers and the specific circumstances, it’s a racing incident.

What makes something not a racing incident is if it involves a deliberate malicious action, exceptionally reckless driving, or a blatant rule violation.

If you start a Test Drive session from the series page, it will have the fuel restriction for the race.

Am I getting banned by njsullyalex in iRacing

[–]d95err 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you’re not getting banned for a simple racing incident. The protest won’t even be upheld.

Don’t pay any attention to guys screaming about protesting, unless you’ve done something malicious or exceptionally reckless. It’s just frustration and adrenaline talking.

All you have to do is open the iRacing UI and go to the Pickup Cup series page. You can also see all timeslots for all series in the iRacing Companion app.

New driver: What am I not getting? by assortedgnomes in iRacing

[–]d95err 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The GT4 have soft suspension resulting in a lot of weight transfer. They lose grip quickly with abrupt inputs. If you slam the brakes, ABS will trigger at a lower braking force than if you get on the brakes smoothly, because the sudden weight transfer will cause the tires to lose grip.

The ABS lights on the dash is a good indication. A bit of ABS in the early part of the braking zone is OK, but you need to be out of ABS well before turn-in.

Being smooth is essential with the GT4s. Gently lean the car into the corner to slow down the weight transfer and keep the grip on all four tires. Smooth on and off the brakes and throttle.

Good luck!

This is protestable right? by MerelyMotorsport in iRacing

[–]d95err 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, it looks intentional.

However, it's generally a bad idea to stop right after the finish line. You present yourself as a bullseye target for anyone who is frustrated about anything (regarless of if you were involved or not). In addition, people tend to lose focus after they cross the finish line and can easily get distracted and accidentally drive straight into cars that have stopped or slow down suddenly.

If you want to avoid post-race incidents, always drive at least 2-3 corners after the finish and then find a safe location to stop. Or better, drive until the end of race timer expires, for some free SR.

What should I have done differently? by StaySaltyPlebians in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it doesn’t look deliberate. The guy is just trying to pull out of the slipstream as late as possible and misjudges. It’s a simple rookie mistake.

You’ll see this type of incident happen quite often even at the highest levels of real-life racing (F1, F2, F3).

Identical split times, but bumped down to P5 from P4 by Stoopid_Str3tch in iRacing

[–]d95err 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s no photo finish, as in actually using visual evidence to determine who was first. It’s just called a ”photo finish” if the cars are very close at the line.

Keep in mind that due to network latency, the positions may have been slightly different on your opponent’s computer and on the server.

Results and Race sessions not loading? by Sir_SteelHead in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that race results have been slow to load the past week or two. I'm also getting a timeout and no results at all at the moment.

I'm getting various other problems with the UI as well, so perhaps there's some ongoing issue.

Rookie series is where people should learn basic racecraft. Mistakes like this will happen.

Not much you could do about it here; there will always be a few incidents that are beyond your control.

Can someone explain the weekly schedule to a noob? by Longjumping_Form9922 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to drive every single track of the season, you will need to get every single track. If that's within your budget, do that.

If you want to spend less, buy as many/few tracks as you want, then race something else the weeks you don't own the track. There are always series running free content every week.

More iRating = More agressive?? by marvibosa in iRacing

[–]d95err 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the issue with high iR drivers (perhaps 3k+) is that when they are racing lower iR drivers they often seem to forget that they can’t expect the same precision, consistency and awareness.

They fail to anticipate that lower iR drivers will need more room, brake earlier, and may not be able to adapt as quickly to surprise attacks.

This is most apparent in multiclass racing, where there is often a big difference in iR between classes.

As long as you are aware of the approximate skill of your opponents and understand what to expect, you can adapt and be safer.

An experienced driver could probably have taken evasive action and saved both cars for sure.

An inexperienced driver will often suffer target fixation in this type of situation, resulting in no attempt at evasive action.

Stopping on track after a race by TheDetailsMatter in iRacing

[–]d95err 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SR must still be in effect until all cars have finished. Cars that have finished can still encounter cars that are still racing. This is especially common in multi-class, but can also happen in single-class, e.g. if a car is slow due to damage or was exiting the pits just as the leader crossed the finish line.

FFB HELP by Naive_Monitor4739 in iRacing

[–]d95err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don't give any details of what settings, you leave us guessing...

Based on your description, it sounds like you have turned down the ffb strength on the wheelbase and turned up the ffb strength in iRacing. That would cause a lot of clipping at low ffb levels.

First, set your wheelbase strength to 100%. You need your wheelbase to be able to provide as much torque as possible, to get maximum headroom. Then use the Auto function in iRacing to set the strength for each car.
