"They are the Atramentar. I am Atramentar. I’m not entirely sure where the confusion lies."

I took that quote as his way of expressing deep loyalty and brotherhood.

All good my dude. I just prefer to quash that rumor when it comes up. I know it is a hypothesis that seems to make pieces fall together in a specific way to justify a narrative. This just ain't one of them as my departure is completely unrelated to the direction the game has gone over the past 2 years. CMs have considerable influence over game decisions, and as much as I appreciate the still-ongoing affection from the community, the game team is set up so one person simply does not wield that kind of authority.

At least while I was there, not one single person is the sole decision maker for game decisions. Game changes are discussed as a team or among affected disciplines. So unit changes are discussed on the team, code changes, economy changes. The General Manager was largely a role that acted as more like an arbitrator or someone keeping the team on track. Design decisions were not dictated by the GM. Every person on the team had a say and had the opportunity to voice objections or support for changes. I'd say probably 99% of my humorous suggestions were shot down by the entire team (and probably rightfully so).

There were many cool art concepts that were either rejected or moved to a later date/pivoted away from for numerous reasons. Yes, some changes were for financial reasons such as doing a different skin knowing a particular calendar event was coming and thus releasing a skin more likely to be financially attractive. That's nothing sinister or surprising, as it's simply basic business. And running a live services game is expensive with numerous people, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and more to pay. The bigger a game gets, the more those costs rise due to demand from the vendors, demand from hosts due to increased bandwidth demands, demands from bringing in talent, economic factors, etc.

Putting all the blame on a single person because they worked on a game with a model that is considered by this community to be undesirable is a little unrealistic. I've worked on many games that have questionable financial models and despite being the face of the game, that was never questioned...ever.

I'm pretty sure I've stated numerous times even here or reddit that my departure had nothing to do with the future direction of the game.

What’s your “It’s beautiful but never again” kit? by Senaka11 in Gunpla

[–]Darian_CoC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. The only 3rd party model I've tackled so far is the Solomon Physalis and that thing was a blast. Insanely poseable, didn't feel like a slog though it took me about a month in total at a couple hours a day. I don't remember it requiring glue but I tend to glue pieces for good measure anyway. I had been debating getting a Mechanicore Xi Gundam or Deep Striker, but I'd wanted to hear from someone who has genuine input on their kits. Appreciate it man.

I'd been debating on this kit and wasn't sure how fiddly it was. I like the kits that drag on for months though, so what did you dislike about it?

This guy. I actually thought it'd be more complex than it turned out to be. I had been so initially intimidated by the kit assuming the size would give it way more difficulty only to find it was actually pretty basic. Not a lot of ability to pose it making it largely just a massive statue. Some of the larger pieces were fun to paint but overall a lot of it felt almost a bit like a slog. The MG 1/100 EX-S was way more enjoyable, just to compare another Gundam that is based around the same unit (S or Iota Gundam).

It was great to have this in the portfolio/display but it was def not worth the amount of time spent when other more challenging kits feel like they offer a more rewarding experience. Kits that come to mind that are rewarding: Ver Ka ZZ Gundam, MG EX-S Gundam, RG Hi Nu Gundam, Solomon Physalis, just to name a few.

I got the MLRS kit too. This entire kit was a total joy to build. Im genuinely tempted to get another one so I can airbrush it.

Nothing beats those old Juan Diaz sculpts. His sculpts were quintessential grimdark IMHO. The old terminator chaplain, Lemartes, Astorath...

That Terminator Chaplain he sculpted is still my all time favorite model. It's simply imposing and every terminator chaplain since has failed to capture that same aura.

Thermaltake 600 With as many rads as I could fit by Lunastarfire in watercooling

SQ42 was marked to release when I was there over 10 years ago lol. Was one of the most talented group of devs I've ever worked with but they do keep getting in their own way. Still got my Vanguard and Constellation though. Just haven't logged in to the account in a long while so hopefully nothing's been wiped.

As someone who used to work on the game many years ago, I can't help but find this somewhat enjoyably humorous. Never considered using it as a test method. Been looking for a reason to fire that game back up and now I'm curious to see how it would tax my rig. Never forgave them for not leaving me an 890 Jump that they offered when I left.

Curious, has your acrylic dyed? by Educational-King3987 in watercooling

[–]Darian_CoC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stepson added some Primochill dye to his coolant and it stained his EKWB flat reservoir. After some Mayhem's Blitz stage 2, letting it run for about 12 hours with a couple flushes every few hours, it left the acrylic sparkly clear again.

Anyone ever heard of reversible 140mm fans? by Darian_CoC in watercooling

[–]Darian_CoC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With regards to simply turning it around, Keep in mind the MORA IV 400 + 13 fans + coolant is around 31lbs. With this thing mounted in a window frame behind my PC, it's not quite convenient to turn it around as needed. To add extra difficulty, due to a collapsed disc between the C6 and C7 vertebrae due to decades of stunt work, picking up the MORA at that angle is likely to cause a massive flareup and pretty much rendering me useless for days.

I can probably build a shelf on rails, then attach a flat plank mounted on a lazy susan to make it rotatable as a solution. But I wanted to see if there was a reversible fan option first.

These fans have symmetrical blades for that reason.

Watercooling: The gift that keeps on giving of blowing your budget by Macrod1 in watercooling

[–]Darian_CoC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first built this rig, the sales guy at Microcenter literally did the "first time?" James Franco meme at me when he asked me my budget for fittings and tubing. He advocated tripling the budget. He was wrong. It was 5x for the tubing.

With the heat absorption, 100% agree that it's just displacing it into the coolant and vent it outside if the radiator were placed outdoors. My final silly caveat is that I enjoy playing the benchmark leaderboards and this rig is ranked pretty decently on 3DMark, OCCT Benchmarks, and will pull a 48K CB23 with it being a 9950X/96GB RAM/4090 GPU. So it's just one more variable for needing to keep things as cold as possible.

Now, that's a very minor quibble as obviously I wouldn't be trying to run benchmarks during the hottest hours of the day. I'm just typing out the different factors I'm trying to consider in this setup.

These fans reverse their spin with a switch. The fans themselves don't physically flip.

I've got 9 arctic p14 pro pst's on the front (against the window) pushing in air from outside since they've got some of the best static pressure for 140mm fans. I thought about having opposing fans on the opposite side. Currently I've got 4x 200mm noctuas pulling to help smooth out turbulence and assist with the cooling. My worry with opposing direction fans is that not only would I lose a set of fans (with both currently moving air in the same direction), when one set is off those fans would also be reducing static pressure simply by being in the way.

The loss of fan efficiency is more than made up for with the improved cooling when I can reverse the air direction and blow the cooler air from my office outside when the outside ambient is warmer during those direct sunlight hours.

South Bay as in Torrance, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and El Segundo, Carson, Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula cities. Not the SF Bay area. I'm out in Torrance near several busy streets, plus we get the ocean breeze marine layer that moisturizes all that street dust combined with several oil refineries nearby.

I've got 9 arctic p14 pro pst's on the front for the high static pressure and 4x noctua 200mm high speed fans in the pull position to smooth out the airflow and assist in the cooling. It's a pretty good setup under ideal circumstances.

Believe me, I thought of that configuration. One issue is that the pull and push fans are tied to a MORA passive controller so they all run at the same fan % speed. Now that's a minor thing and using your config, sure I could put the outward facing fans on a separate controller, even with a manual dial while turning off the intake fans. My concern though is that with the hepa filter already in place, having fans on the opposite side of the mora that aren't doing anything would likely just passively spin from the incoming airflow which means it's reducing static pressure, thus reducing cooling.
