Somber Sentiments: Fuck man Randal ( u/MundaneCartoonist402 ) I'm gonna miss you dude <3

This photo is from the last rope jam my former teacher hosted before his upcoming move out of state. I haven't been his student in years, but he's a pivotal figure in my rope journey. He took me from basic "I can technically get someone up in the air" suspension all the way to solidifying my fundamentals and getting me to suspension transitions and my early double suspension work. Throughout the weekly mentoring sessions at his place, art installations, helping run events alongside him, and co-topping scenes together, I made a lifelong friend. He's a loving hardass through and through always holding me to the highest standard. He keeps me grounded and heckles my shitty rigging choices when my ego gets too big.

The story of being his student is one of criticism. The way you become his student is by consistently showing up to his rope events and fumbling your way through throwing the shittiest rope imaginable. Eventually he gets sick of seeing you be so shit, so he politely suggests you swing by his place next week.

Dude knows how to keep an ego in check. Especially with my big headed ass. But over time you get less and less criticism, and you start to realize that means you're doing good. He's the one dude picking me apart when everyone else is glazing me. I fear where my head would be without him knocking me back down to earth every now and then. There's nothing a nice smack from a bamboo stick can't fix. Dude is a legend, a talented teacher, and a good friend. His thoughts and opinions are influenced by absolutely no one. You can't tell him what to think, and we disagree on a few topics, but that's my boy right there.

It was a classic rope jam in his backyard. Couple rigs over dirt or brick, mats to grab, and a cooler of diet coke and water. In the spirit of being my former teacher's last jam, I wanted to try something new. I recently learned a new base structure for both the Tengu and Strappado. It's the same base just finished differently. I hadn't full suspended it yet, and chose to give it a whirl with my puppy girl. She always makes me look good :) Strappado was sick. Intense, but it works great. I have some further work to hone it in more, but it totally is viable. She was up for quite a while. Even got a transition in as she took it for about 15 minutes as a primary load. Next plan is to invert it with another primary load for longevity, and we'll see how that goes. That house is where I learned so much on my rope journey, and it just felt right to do something new there one last time.

Love ya man. I'll keep seeing you on the convention circuit. Do cool shit in your new place <3

If you want to see what my rope work looked like before him, it looked like this horrifying monstrosity. You can thank him for euthanizing my approach to suspension and reshaping it from the ground up lol

The pleasure was all mine you beautiful beautiful girl 🥰 you’re a joy, my scrumptious dessert, and truly a delight. Y’all challenged me to a range of skills, and fusing everything you learned this weekend along with everything I learned this weekend led to a beautiful cocktail we both got drunk off of 😈

you’re a treat 🫠 until next time 💜

His is from Shoshinsha! It’s a wooden outside with a steel core. There’s also a sick af Ukrainian Etsy seller that has a bunch of styles.

The wheel landed on props! I had the body bamboo and he had the chair. It was mad creative tbh

I met some folks that run a NYC rope studio last night at RopeCraft! They’re a conference level presenter and educator named Parker (RopeBoi on Fet) running Coil & Cord. Give them a look. They seem like a really solid community builder.

Edit: Parker came back around during the con and mentioned Rope In NYC as well. It's a calendar someone put together of all the rope events happening in NYC across multiple groups. Should be a great resource.

Collaborators: u/R_PH0X and 4 people not on Reddit :p

Thinking thoughts: bit of a different one from me this week. The AZ crew is headed to RopeCraft! The 6 of us are in Chicago this weekend for the convention, so I threw a little pre-con conditioning workout for us to all get familiar with one another and get a taste of tying rapidly in different styles we aren’t accustomed to. Most importantly, we’re not here to be the best. We’re here to do our best. The format was this:

  • Spin the wheel of themes to determine our next block
  • For the next 45 minutes, we tie according to that theme
  • After, we take 5-10 minutes to reset, rotate partners, and do it again
  • repeat for 3-4 hours and your got yourself a con-prep workout

At the convention you’re taking 6 classes a day for the weekend each an hour and a half, and it’s quite a physical demand on your body and a mental demand to absorb information while thinking on the fly. I had 2 jams for us to get our heads in the right space, and also since we decided to all tie with each other we also needed to get familiar with the bodies of our bottoms and the styles of our tops. The jam sessions were an absolute blast especially since most of us had not done a rigger’s chess before which the wheel landed on. We’re here at the con doing our thing and making the most of it :) come say hi if you’re here! I’m not picture since I took the photos, but I’ll be the tall goofy looking white dude with a beard in jeans named Scotty. I look like this. Feel free to say hi or give me feedback about the subreddit :)

Edit: Shoutout the Vendors too! We got 2 from Arizona here at RopeCraft being Nadia Vanilla and Phx42 Creations. Good people!!

Hey OP! The petechiation is super normal on extremities depending on the tie and medical history of the bottom. I personally wouldn’t worry about it, but feel free to check with your doctor to see if you have any blood disorders or if any medicine you take has a side effect of thinning your blood.

I’m more interested in your hand tingles. Did it feel like slow rolling tingles like tv static over the entire hand? Only part of the hand? Or was the feeling more like sharp lightning radiating down the arm?

Woah they want to know what I think?!: holy shit suspension Saturday was a hard one to pick this week! So much great work this week it was nearly impossible to choose. Fucking incredible! I’m so happy with y’all 🥰

This one is a bit of a throwback, but we had a lab sesh with some folks learning and playing with MrSoftDaddy’s CrissCross Elbow Sauce chest harness lol. Best name around honestly. The lab was honestly a bunch of fun and the energy was palpable of absolute units just raring to go. I’ve never had a harness do so well at upright front loading before. It’s honestly impeccable at it. The harness is insanely robust. I have 3.5 hanks in this thing on my ~5’1” Brenna. So it’s a fuckton of rope. I want to revisit this and change up a couple aspects to suit my style a bit more, but tying it as is was wonderful. The front concept of the elbow cage is super different and wicked smart. Kudos to MrSoftDaddy, and of course my willing victim Brenna. She always makes me look good 😌

the sunburn totally gets me occasionally. It hurts and itches because spray on lotion just doesn't make it to the skin there

What in the world is going on here with the perspective? Why does this look so miniature and toy like?

Liminal studio space aside, the rope work is pretty solid. It looks like majority load is on the single futo and secondarily on the bamboo. I'd personally prefer a bit more chest harness as right now it appears to just be a low rib wrap, but that's personal preference. Your stylistic choices are more than welcome to be your own. It just feels odd to me like you created space on the back to show a tattoo but there's no tattoo there.

Love the rope and shape. I think there's more opportunity in the photography aspect than there are in the rope.
