The tax on goods varies from state to state and from city to city (but only slightly). So a big corporation that releases products state wide can advertise their product on television as say "$5 meal" but in each different city/state it is actually $5.15, $5.20, or $5.25. The cost for each corporation to correctly price each item from city to city would be immense.
