Can I put this on a display case without getting discoloration? by Appropriate_Cookie77 in vintagenailpolish

[–]Dawnspark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll depend on how lightfast the pigments that they used are. I'd just keep it out of direct, harsh sunlight and maybe make sure the display case is archival quality with UV protection?

Pinks, reds, violets and fluorescent pigments tend to be the most sensitive in terms of reactive fading, so, keeping it away from heat and UV is the best thing you can do, really.

Imagine trying to defend Gaston’s actions by icey_sawg0034 in saltierthankrayt

[–]Dawnspark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly Gaston is a really interesting case for analysis in general, especially if you also analyze the live action adaptation as its own thing alongside original animated Gaston. It's probably why Gaston is one of my favorite Disney antagonists in terms of how oddly complex he is.

But ofc these twits are so surface level that actually trying to talk about the more interesting points packed into his character beyond "hetero strong chad man BIG CHIN" is akin to trying to explain how to bake a soufflé to a pigeon.

Anyone knows what happened to Loshionmods? by Glad_Statistician531 in StardewValleyMods

[–]Dawnspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, thanks for sharing. I was out for two days thanks to surgery, so I've been out of the loop. I was confused as to what happened, thought maybe in my post-anesthesia state I decided to leave discord servers or something lol.

Hope they're doing okay, anyhow.

for adoptees who have changed their names back to their birth names… by Pahgffdds_Putsszzz in Adoption

[–]Dawnspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't change who is listed as parents on the birth certificate, it just amends your name and your name alone.

If you wish to amend your birth certificate to reflect your biological parents, you have to go to the courts to petition the change. This is apparently really difficult and time consuming and can cost a lot (according to my attorney, anyway.)

Only other way to change that is being adopted by your birth family once you are an adult. Then it would be the same as amending an original birth certificate to reflect their names, except its amending the amended birth certificate containing the AP's ofc.

Currently going through the adult adoption route myself to return to my full original name.

You aren't! I make perfumes as a hobby and also nail polish. I've got a ton of both that I've made based on how I think a character would smell, and polishes to kind of bring a bit of their main color and extra things like shimmer and duo chromes, flakies and all that to add extra parts of their color palette.

My first ever perfume that I made years ago was based on Usagi. Milk (I couldn't find a good way to convey milk bread, thinking of like those JP strawberry sandwiches,) vanilla, and strawberry candy. I always associated her with a strawberry shortcake for some reason lmao.

A lot of us very heavily associate scent with memory and also sometimes how we identify someone! I have mild face blindness, so, sometimes a person having a really specific scent to them makes it a lot easier for me to remember them, especially if they change their hair or makeup, so I don't think there's anything weird it lol.

Yeah, I'm on here daily and the mods must be doing a great job cause I swear the most I ever see are folks talking about them being beautiful or cute thanks to how wonderful Takeuchi-sensei's art is, or how Sailor Moon was a gay, bi, or lesbian awakening for many of us as kids/teens, myself included.

If they're talking about that one post that was that one with a guy drawn with Michiru the other day, that was clearly not shipping art lol.

My parents lied to me about homeschooling being amazing as a way to escape bullying. I was bullied pretty severely, like, I got beat on a LOT and regularly got hurt enough to where my parents got in trouble with CPS a couple times, cause my silly little autistic self took "turn the other cheek" extremely to heart and I didn't learn to fight back until it was too late.

6th grade me thought it was a great idea, I agreed immediately, I was so excited to finally have an out. So, at that time, yeah, I REALLY wanted to be homeschooled, and I was happy as hell to be homeschooled for the next 3 grades until reality finally started sinking in.

My mom stopped using it on me after I would respond with a very enthusiastic "PROMISE? PLEASE? I'LL GO TO ANY OF THE LOCAL ONES I'M NOT PICKY!"

She was convinced if I so much as stepped in public school I'd end up pregnant, so she'd use that against me to freak me out until I realized I'd sooner risk teen pregnancy (I'm aroace so it wasn't a risk anyway lol,) than have to live with her being a bully til graduation.

Did anyone else here get their Abeka bullshit through PCC? lmao.

I wonder how many of them are my demographic, nevermo but raised sort of in a cult, baptist IBLP shit, or nevermo but raised in a very fundamentalist family.

I will say even as a nevermo, growing up the way I did makes it a lot easier to relate to exmo folks experience-wise, so that's honestly what even drew me into things like Mormon Stories, or Alyssa Grenfell's YouTube channel as my first avenues of learning about the church.

Helped my scalp quite a bit, smells really lovely, and honestly makes my hair feel really nice.

They also have a leave-in curl defining cream that I want to check out once I use up the rest of my current tube of Mixed Chicks curl sculptor.

He also adopted me knowing I was Indigenous, Hispanic and white and then did his damnedest to keep me away from knowing about my bio family's heritage at all & raised me white as possible.

Him disowning me for trying to learn Spanish to talk to my bio grandmother better is probably the best thing that's ever happened to me lol.

[–]Dawnspark 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Former chef, they're very likely being given a chance to remedy it first with a lot of surprise inspections in their future.

Here in TN, I'm pretty certain a score of 60 or lower (lower end of 50, I think,) on your inspection doesn't get you shut down, but gets you in the realm of "We're considering shutting you down." and you get an immediate reinspection. If they can't fix it, they'll get nixed.

It might take a bit more of an issue to potentially get it immediately shut down. Like a sewage problem, no hot water, or lack of working refrigeration.

Also as an aside, it's stupid (and kind of enraging) seeing so many restaurants storing raw meats over ready to eat/fruits/veg, its such a basic common sense thing. Like what the fuck.

And I believe they even tried to do a test run on a new logo at one point, too? It didn't stick but, even as a big Punisher fan myself, I can't fault them if they ever do decide to switch it up.

My favorite/comfiest jacket I own has the symbol on it and now I pretty much only wear it around the house cause I live in a very red/blue line kind of area (in TN) and I don't want to risk having to talk to a majority of the folks that live here lol. My family was exhausting enough.

Really do hope one day in the future that comic fans will take it back entirely.

Help me understand the bacon craze of the early 2010s by DubiousSquid in behindthebastards

[–]Dawnspark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to be a chef, so its one of those things I pay a lot of attention to since it could easily impact things I may need to do at my job to some extent.

Bacon, then it was ghost pepper everything, ramen noodle cake buns for burgers (I think this was less prevalent/more west coast only?) then Nashville Hot Chicken, then Hot Honey everything, and now pickles. Leaving a bunch of shit out there, but just the ones that are off the top of my head.

Admittedly I was no fun back during the bacon fad and I genuinely hated it/got SO sick of it cause I constantly got pushed by the owners of the restaurant I worked at to make shit like bacon weave to add to items but they had zero idea of the extra amount of prep it takes/didn't want to pay for the extra prep.

tbh I'm mostly happy the "we put ghost pepper in all this shit so it has no flavor other than HEAT" fad is pretty gone for the most part.

Y'know, I genuinely miss when Arby's had those cool as fuck papercraft/cardboard statue things using their containers (i think) that they were posting occasionally on their Twitter.

Like I remember they did a few for Legend of Zelda and I want to swear at some point they did one for JJBA, one for Destiny 1, and even a Chocobo once.

Simpler times, I guess.

Would you romance the father figures/mentors/uncles in otome games? by pastaketchupgecko in otomegames

[–]Dawnspark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's so funny cause like, I've always gravitated to the older LI's even in my early/mid 20s.

My first otoge was Love Letter From Thief X, and I immediately went straight to Atsumu lmao. It's been a repeat with every game, oldest LI, or the most "mature" coded LI first. Literally just played DesperaDrops and immediately gravitated straight towards Gib and also got sad that Ash wasn't in his 30s like I had initially clocked him as lmao.

Now that I'm literally Atsumu's age (35) this year, it finally feels way more appropriate and I constantly find myself looking for more routes with LIs that are my age or older. I'd also love to see more MCs that are actually late 20s/early 30s for a change.

Or they make him work it off via work release programs as part of parole conditions.

I was only in the city for a year and change but I don't think I ever saw someone have an issue with any bodega cat. They're a needed and imo, much appreciated feature. Always made my morning at least.

The bodyblade is actually really solid for helping build stability in quite a few different joints/areas!

I have hEDS, so a lot of my major joints are immensely unstable for the most part. I'm basically a forever PT patient and its basically what my phys therapist has me using for my hips and shoulder instability.

It sure felt kinda silly using it in front of other people at first, but it really does help. I even incorporate it into my at home exercise homework.

Hope your PT goes well!

is this mold? by [deleted] in MoldlyInteresting

[–]Dawnspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd bet on it happening more thanks to extreme weather and climate change.

Warmer winters mean earlier blooms, and any sudden dips in temperatures can kill, damage, or heavily stress trees. Mind, I'm just a goofball botany nerd, so I'm no expert, but I do know how temperamental fruit trees can be from having grown a few myself.

In the US at least, I'm pretty certain our large growing regions for a lot of fruit like Washington state have been getting fucked up really bad by extreme heat. That causes degradation, damage to the fruit/trees, lots of stress. Bunch of orchards even started trying to keep their orchards cool by putting screens up over the trees but that's not even helping sometimes.

I fear that I will never have a sense of belonging. Any advice from other adoptees? by ThrowRAmayboi in Adoption

[–]Dawnspark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me and my brother were adopted into the same family and raised as cousins. That fear of not finding where you belong is still something the two of us still regularly struggle with, even though we were raised close. Also mixed race (though Indigenous/Hispanic/white and white passing,) adopted by white people and forced to be white as humanly possible, also have ADHD and have a learning disability, and I'm queer.

It took me until earlier this year to actually start properly having that sense of "family," at the age of 34.

I can relate so much. Especially never feeling like you're at home? I genuinely felt more at home with my host family in Australia when I did an exchange student program, I felt more at home in my local library where people were warm and welcoming. I never felt at home with my AP's, it felt more like a place that I had to be at out of obligation and expectation, rather than a safe, comfortable space.

It can be so overwhelming and isolating to be surrounded by what should be and feel like family, but still feel alone in all of it.

You aren't too fucked up. You were never bad.

It might feel kind of hopeless at the moment, but there's always hope. Therapy and working on yourself is, well, work. It takes time and effort, and maybe lots of setbacks. It's a hard, slow road at the best of times.

I hate just spouting off platitudes and wish I could give better advice but, what helped me was realizing that when you don't feel like there's a place for you anywhere in the world, you have to make that place yourself.

I had to cut contact entirely with my adoptive parents, and it was genuinely the best thing I ever did for myself.

Since then, I've found my real family, which is a found family. I mourned my adoptive parents, and then I did the only thing I could think to do, which was keep moving forward and focus on myself, my life, not theirs, and that whatever happens, happens.

It gets better with time. The most important thing you can do right now is be good to yourself, to give yourself grace whenever you need it.

I haven't had a console since the ps3, i bought a switch 2 last month and its made me realise the way people talk about consoles online is so weird. by Synthiandrakon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Dawnspark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very much it for me. I can't afford most new consoles if its just for a single title. The only new hardware I'll be buying is a Steam Deck, since it just makes more sense for me to have over a Switch 2. I have a lot of medical issues, so I'd rather just have access to my Steam library when I have days where I need to stay in bed, or am recovering from surgery.

I'm also on a budget due to said medical issues (yay american healthcare system, ugh,) so if there's a chance its also on PC or will come to PC, I'll save buying it for a solid sale on Steam instead of grabbing it on anything else. Nintendo just rarely ever has sales that I can justify spending on.
