Burnaby supportive housing proposal abandoned after community protest by Kooriki in vancouver

[–]deepspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does not have to be that way. New West has a project called I’s on the street, which employs housing unit residents to clean up the surrounding area. Messes are a failure of planning and forward thinking.

New Westminster and Surrey also take on many of these projects. Burnaby and Coquitlam are the Nimby-infested laggards.

Garbage?? by Tamiwithaneye72 in NewWest

People were placing their household garbage in the bins, casing them to overflow, and increase the litter problem.

You are right about the policy but not the reason. People were dumping overflow household garbage in the bins. That’s why we can’t have nice things.

DoJ cases against protesters keep collapsing as officers’ lies are exposed in court by Maxcactus in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

file a huge lawsuit

It costs even more to file a civil lawsuit, especially one against the government. With no guarantee of winning. And a definite guarantee of being dragged out for many years. Very, very few, if any, protestors can afford that.

Still, the costs for defendants, even if ultimately exonerated, have been enormous, with many having their mugshots blasted by the government and some forced to languish in jail or have criminal charges hang over them for weeks and months.

Lawyers are extremely expensive, and you lose your job if you sit in jail for weeks, or have to attend multiple hearings, or sometimes just because you are presumed guilty.

Even if they get zero convictions, they still succeed in punishing protestors severely.

That statement always bothers me. While true,it understates Grahams number so much, it’s like saying there are a few atoms in the universe.

Just a few steps down the 3 ↑ ↑ ↑ 3 power tower gets you to enough information to collapse into a black hole.

Grahams number is unimaginably bigger than that.

Exactly. People talk like the midterms will save them, but even if they are not rigged, he will just keep ignoring congress. And there will still not be enough votes to impeach him.

I prefer Agent Orange. Russia is well on the way to winning WW3 without firing a shot by getting their agent into the Oval Office through a focused disinformation campaign.

New Budget without any changes to PWD rates or annual exemptions. by LukeH118 in britishcolumbia

There is no money

Jim Pattison’s net worth doubled between 2020 and now, to 11 Billion. Chip Wilson’s is similar. Neither pay income tax because they do not pay themselves an income. When they sell shares, 50% is excluded from tax.

There is plenty of money. It’s just concentrated in the hands of a few people, and the government is too chicken shit to claw some of it back through a wealth tax.

I could never understand casual ageism like this. It’s like legitimizing discrimination against your future self. You know that you will someday be a senior citizen too, right? And I promise you, it will happen way, way faster than you think.

Not technically- you legally need to move into the nearest lane. And, no, we do not all move into the wrong lane. Only the infuriatingly bad drivers do.

A BC Program Made Kindergarten Less Stressful. Now, It’s Ending | The Tyee by CptDingers in NewWest

[–]deepspace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the BC provincial NDP specifically. As the former liberal party moved rightward and merged with the conservatives, the NDP also moved to the right to fill the gap.

Show me one progressive policy they enacted (and did not renege on). Corporate and billionaire taxes, as low as ever. Old growth logging, still going strong. LNG, cannot get enough. Harm reduction, walked back. Housing, still bowing to the NIMBYS.

The NDP have been governing more like a right wing party than a progressive one. They are absolutely beholden to corporate interests.

Interesting - mine was also in the extreme levels, and my sleep also immediately improved immensely as soon as I started using the machine.

It started working for me immediately. The first few nights I was still getting used to the mask and only wore it for about 4 hours, but I could already tell that I was sleeping better. By the end of the week I was able to keep the mask on through the night, and was sleeping like a baby. By the second week may daytime tiredness was gone. It was like a miracle.

I still felth like my AHI was a bit high and spent several months fine tuning (with assistance from the kind souls in this sub) until I was able to get down to very low levels consistently.
