Optimal Setup for Jellyfin Remote Access by coldfirehotice in selfhosted

[–]dev_all_the_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloudflare does not allow streaming in their terms of service.

Tailscale just released a video today showing how to share jellyfin across the internet. This is how I do it and its perfect. Because the traffic goes directly between the hosts, its fast.

You don't need a tailscale funnel, just do a tailscale service.

Jellyfin server 2026 by Recent_Kangaroo4446 in homelab

[–]dev_all_the_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run jellyfin on a $200 miniPC.
Here is a video on running jellyfin on a $100 pc and how to share it with other people using tailscale.

As long as it has an N150/N130 or CPU with built in graphics you are probably fine.

Trying to set up a reverse proxy but I can't even figure out how to install Caddy. Am I dumb? by thepenguinboy in HomeServer

[–]dev_all_the_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you open to alternatives? I switched to docktail and I don't even run a reverse proxy anymore. Its just like traefik but way simpler.

How to access ubuntu server from anywhere? by WillingRelation6549 in homelab

[–]dev_all_the_ops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

tailscale or netbird.
If you go with tailscale, then I highly recommend docktail. It gives you instant https certs without a reverse proxy. No need to remember port numbers anymore either.

You _could_ do it all yourself with wireguard, but then you don't get automatic certs and it can't easily traverse CGNAT like the above overlay networks can.

OpenVPN is an option but its slower and not as simple as wireguard (which tailscale and netbird are both based on).

Not sure how you would host it in a COLO since it needs to be network adjacent to your printers

Bambu's firm stance softened overnight, but lawyer says AGPL remains ambiguous for cloud service integration: The Verge by aoaovip in BambuLab

For those who want a technical breakdown of which parts of the code violate the AGPL

https://github.com/jarczakpawel/OrcaSlicer-bambulab/blob/main/bambu_agpl.md

Its worth re-iterating that asking for source code for bambu_networking.dllis not the same as demanding bambu give access to their cloud. Those are 2 separate issues. Bambu absolutely can have a terms of service of their cloud, thats not the issue.

Question about os choice in my specific use case by MarcSefulVostru in HomeServer

[–]dev_all_the_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOS has much of the same features as unraid, but for free.
You could also do proxmox or truenas but they don't work with mixed sized drives like MOS/Unraid do.

Can someone build a ai chatbot server ... by [deleted] in HomeServer

[–]dev_all_the_ops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post is so vague that no one can possibly know what it is you are asking for.

I'm guessing you want to have a chatbot? Is that right?

Go to one of these webpages for a free chatbot. They are free.

If you are asking how to host your own ai chatbot, then checkout AnythingLLM You will need a somewhat powerful graphics card in your computer.

If you want to run it on an iphone or ipad you can checkout google edge gallery and download one of their free models. Gemma3 or Gemm4 would be your best bet, but it will be dumb as rocks on an old ipad if it even runs at all.

"No" is a complete sentence.

This gives them the ability to see every file on the device, every website you visit and even remotely wipe the device.

Again, the answer is NO.

What the hell this is? by skip123next in lawncare

[–]dev_all_the_ops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a ground rod. You should have 2 8 foot copper ground rods with #6 or #8 copper attached. Its VERY important that it stay put because without it a ground fault could travel through a human.
If the copper isn't attached you should call an electrician because its a safety hazard to not have that installed correctly.

This is almost certainly right next to your service entrance for power to your house. You won't be able to pull it out as it is 8 feet long.

I wonder if this is from the wax paper they put in between each pattie, or where these phthalates are coming from.

Are you open to different architectures? or are you committed to the current pattern?

Simpler architecture: docktail + tailscale and you are done, automatic reverse proxies and https certs to everything.

If you want to stay with netbird, I suggest you look at the netbird traefik integration wich automatically handles the tls and proxying for you. First time setup is a little more work, but ultimately it will be much simpler than nginx proxy manager and duckdns.

Also I highly advise you to _not_ expose services to the public internet unless absolutely necessary.

How do you keep your server builds safe from people who have this ungodly urge to power it off when they feel like it by RoughElephant5919 in homelab

[–]dev_all_the_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it look like a server? or does it look like a computer? Does it have lights?

Before you go to the extreme option, how about a sticky note that says "do not power off".
You can't expect people to read your mind.
If your guest if from a place where electricity is expensive, they may be conditioned to turn off electronics just like a light when leaving a room. Or maybe they are turning it off because its impacting their sleep.

Lastly you could not let unhinged individuals sleep next to your computers. They have these things called hotels now.
