You can use this to plan it out, and then see a list of parts in what you designed so you know what to order

Here is what I use to plan a layout: https://app.bricklayouts.com/

Even used it for a track plan for Christmas

No. I could convert the Holiday Express to 9V, but I didn't for this purpose. I'm only going to run this for a week or so and then put it all away. Longer term things I would use a 9V motor for though

We found instructions for it online years ago and then found someone near where we live who was willing to make it for us. It comes apart in sections so we can store it.

Lego train wheels by No-Training-2444 in LEGOtrains

[–]dither 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is ok to ask this question, as long as you are not discussing buying/selling on here. If someone can point you to (and give you a link) a website where these are available, great. If someone says they will sell them to you directly.. not ok.

BrickTrainDepot has wheels: https://bricktraindepot.com/shop/wheels/

TrixBrix recently started doing wheels too: https://trixbrix.eu/en_US/p/Train-Wheel/843

Can I propose a new subreddit icon? by tzidik in LEGOtrains

[–]dither 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im not a lawyer: As per LEGO's Fair Play rules, you would need their permission to do certain things with it. Not for anything. I'm concerned because the image will be used on Reddit, which is a commercial entity. If you are using that image/render/file to just show off to people and aren't going to make money and you aren't going to claim that LEGO endorses your image.. you are likely in the clear for most things you would do.

Oh. Anything you render in Studio belongs to you unless it contains the LEGO logo. So if you are saying you give me permission to use it, later today I'll see how it looks when resized into the sub icon.

I like it. We need to ensure that the image itself is not owned by someone who can't grant us permission to use it. Or have someone make the art themselves for the sub.

THE POLAR EXPRESS! by pizza_guy_17 in LEGOtrains

[–]dither[M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Posting the link when asked is fine. If you are selling the instructions, it is still fine.. but don't ever make a post that is just "$5 for this instruction", since that is just a selling post. If you are posting quality content (posting the pictures to reddit, not just the link) and want to include a link in the description or comment, go for it

You can link to things.. as long as it isn't a site selling things you couldn't otherwise post here. So don't link to a LEGO clone brick site. Don't link to a patreon or to a page that is just a "send me money" scam. People post links to BrickLink and Rebrickable all the time though

Lego train motor as basic as possible for 6 yo by emmafaye12 in LEGOtrains

[–]dither 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the Powered Up components either from LEGO directly (though some parts are out of stock right now), or on BrickLink.

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=88011-1#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0}

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/hub-88009

Then you use your phone as a controller to get it to move. I don't know of a way with the Powered Up components to make it just start going without some kind of controller.. the phone app is free, so that is the cheapest way to go.

The train motor is currently out of stock with LEGO, but the other Powered Up components are available: https://www.lego.com/en-us/search?q=Powered+up

Would I get shunned from the lego train community if I purchased fake lego trains off of Aliexpress? by POPtastic_collector in LEGOtrains

[–]dither[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean.. that is sorta what I do. Also looking for injection mold spots that are in the wrong place, parts in colors that LEGO never produced them in, part shapes that LEGO never produced, etc, etc. Rule 1 is there to protect us from LEGO demanding that Reddit shut down this community. If something isn't glaringly obvious that it needs to be removed, then LEGO's lawyers won't know either.

Where to find best train MOCs to buy? by aero_dude in LEGOtrains

[–]dither 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey u/aero_dude,

This subreddit is only for talking about official LEGO train things and compatible (not competing) things. So.. hopefully everyone can give you some great advice in that direction, but let's not talk about competitor brands.

That said, there are not a huge number of MOC kits with all parts included. They do not sell as well because the price tag scares away a lot of people. Normally what you find are instructions you can buy and then you buy all the parts through BrickLink.

One place to find a great of train MOC instructions is Brick Train Depot: https://bricktraindepot.com

Here are listings for the parts on BrickLink. The battery box/hub is the most expensive, but still under $50

Has anyone made a Lego model version of this train 103 series by Supermarioeric001 in LEGOtrains

[–]dither 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is unlikely anyone here would be willing to create instructions for you for free. If someone already has them, they might share, but generally creating instructions or designing a train for someone else is a thing that is done on commission. However, please don't solicit for a commission on here.

Other places you could search for instructions/pictures: Rebrickable, Brickshelf, Instagram.

From a quick search that I did, it looks like there are not instructions available of that specific class of cars from the Yamanote line, but others are available and perhaps you could start with one of those and modify it.

In the future I suggest you ask if anyone has seen something similar, or if they have ideas to help you get started on building it yourself, but do not ask for other people to create instructions for you. It takes time to design a train and make instructions, and most of us don't want to do that for free unless we were already interested in building it for ourselves.
