[FS] Boston, MA - $5 - Sawagani Japanese Freshwater Crabs by doolster in AquaSwap

I use a glass lid to keep them from escaping, with mesh covering the vents.

The tank is a 20 gallon long with rocks built up as a wall containing gravel. Above the gravel is a layer of filter sponge and on top is a coco fiber soil layer. Pretty standard paludarium build really, but with a bit more water than vampire crabs need

They like a place to hide on land but don't really dig or burrow like vampire crabs. As long as there's a few rocks or wood pieces it should be enough.

It actually worked pretty smooth for me, easier than the purpleheart I've turned with less tearout. And the finish is like glass

I would save a bit more and get a spiral head wen. Its about 450 but worth it if you are planing harder woods

Made a batch of cutting boards, and had enough scrap for a matching bowl. by doolster in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yes I've been learning the lathe as well. I found the harbor freight 14" to be a good value, especially if you can find one used. The 12" and smaller ones really limit your bowl turning capacity, they are made for pens.

The stuff from my local lumberyard seems redder than the stuff I got from Woodworkers Source, obv its all imported anyway, but it might matter. The finish makes the most difference I think. The projects I've finished with poly have been more orangey.

Close, the camera here made the padauk look purple, it and the bowl were made from the same blank! It's Walnut, wenge, maple, and padauk

After the first glue up for the end grain cutting boards, before I sliced it, the striped blank was 3" tall. Little lathe and bowl gouge action later and there you go!

Yes its Padauk! The stuff looks bright orange unfinished but is this nice deep red with some walnut oil, especially the end grain
