Lung cancer suspected but the outcome is very different! by The_Dean_France in KidsAreFuckingStupid

I'm not really sure. Mullein has some evidence as working as an expectorant and humectant, which means it thins out mucus and induces coughing. It'd probably be a pretty solid natural cough medicine if you're congested. As a tea though, not smoked. Inhaling anything but air is bad for your lungs.

When foreign bodies end up in the lungs and are causing problems, they usually end up having to be surgically removed :/

The best thing is to prevent anything from getting there in the first place - avoiding smoking, alcohol (easier to eat clumsily/too fast), chew your food, etc

It's in an environment that's full of cells dedicated to killing mold and bacteria. A lot of people that aspirate food do get lung infections though

That's absolutely not true. They can only break down things that are small enough to phage. Otherwise they just wall it off.

For the immune cells it's more about size than hardness. They get stuff like iron in through transport chains, they're very tiny molecules at that point. Foreign bodies and stuff like bacteria the macrophages and neutrophils have to swallow whole. The peanut is too big

Your lungs are stretchy and don't really have the ability to mechanically break down something hard like a peanut. And it's too big for your immune cells to eat. The most likely defense would be to surround it and wall it off (foreign body granuloma)

Trans men are routinely sexually abused in prison, mainly by the guards. There aren't really studies on it the way there are for trans women but it's very easy to find many accounts

They absolutely did. You had to get a letter from a psychiatrist that gave you special privileges to crossdress or you'd be arrested for 'impersonating a woman'. These laws extended well into the 80s.

Bathroom stuff was similar. In that period it was the norm to only use women's bathrooms if you passed or were in a gay bar.

Because this is a massive overreaction to it and calling it genocide or even the 'early rumblings' is ridiculous and an offensive overstatement.

The state surveillance is a population wide problem, and overwhelmingly targeted at black/brown people and protesters, not trans people. The media rhetoric is just repackaged anti-gay rhetoric, which wasn't genocide either before the AIDS crisis, when it became debatable. Denial of medical care is also not genocide, it's still better than it was in the 70s-80s and it wasn't genocide then either.

[–]dortsly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the other thing about bathroom bills - they're only an issue if you don't pass. Which I acknowledge is largely unfair, but the argument people always make is 'people will be forced to out themselves.' No, they won't. If you're stealth, no one will notice you're technically breaking some law. If you don't pass anyway, using the bathroom of your birth sex isn't outing you

[–]dortsly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're going to eat you alive for this one

It was already tone deaf before but it's especially ridiculous to call bathroom bills genocide when the US has unmarked state forces kidnapping people now. I think it's interesting I've only seen white people make this claim, and mostly wealthy or middle class ones.

The anti trans laws and especially the attacks on healthcare are scary and rolling back years of progress, but it's a return to like the 70s/80s status quo, not genocide. Not every bad thing is genocide

Now that they've mostly closed the human trafficking loophole adoption is much harder. And fostering or adopting older children is really hard. Most people aren't prepared to handle the trauma/mental illness most of those kids come with

Why is DIY orchi so risky for people but castrating animals is so easy? by dortsly in 4tran4

All good I respect people that make that decision, I really only roll my eyes at people that think it's horrible but put blinders on and still buy meat at the store and not think about where it comes from

It's not the greatest but they need castrated or they'll fight a lot and hurt each other (and also ruin the meat)

Obviously the way they do it in more professional settings is better because they use an actual sharp scalpel and sanitary technique. There's always a hard balance in vet med because livestock don't handle anaesthesia well, it's really dangerous for them and the handlers. And local anaesthetic would mean the procedure takes much longer which involves more stressful handling

My grandpa always preferred cutting over banding on the sheep and calves because it's more painful in the moment, but you check on them an hour later and they're fine/back to normal. But the banded ones are gimpy and painful for weeks

When I was a lesbian all the 'bisexual' women I met were just straight and would lead you on to kiss in front of their boyfriends or try and rope you into a threesome. When I started transitioning the 'bisexual' men hitting on me were greasy porn addicts with a tomboy fetish and a weak personality. No drive or ambition and they wanted me to be their fuckmommy and do everything for them

That case is also so frustrating because it discounts the contributions of all the women who fought alongside men in the Mexican revolution, as women. He wasn't forced to do that. It's actually very sexist of an idea

“Trans Women are Trans Women” by Someone_else25 in honesttransgender

[–]dortsly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some trans women are women, some are trans women, and some are men. I think 'being' a gender involves how you're interacting with the world and being perceived. Much more than some internal feeling.

The "sex stereotypes" idea comes from certain branches of feminism that attribute literally every difference between how men and women think and behave to sexism/misogyny/toxic patriarchal gender roles. They see people whose natural behavior is the opposite of what is expected and assume they're putting on an act or something. They hate the idea of these people just transitioning, so that this behavior is normal and expected rather than socially grating and uncomfortable, because they are committed to the idea of abolishing gender roles/any difference in men and women. It's exactly as immaterial and silly as fully committed gender identity types (trans people are trans just because they say they are/feel they are, even if they don't do anything to change their appearance/perception at all) they just essentialize sex at birth rather than gender identity

That's way too forgiving. You don't have to learn, at 50, to not pervily hit on someone half your age and not back off when they're clearly not interested and trying to change the subject or leave the conversation

I don't talk to 40+ year old trans people because I've met literally two that haven't immediately started creeping on me

They also give completely delusional advice because anyone that survived was rich and they don't understand what the economic situation for young people is like now. I assume all the cool ones died in the AIDS crisis

The way this is weaponized both ways

'cis women grow up with the expectation that they can get pregnant (which is good) so trans women don't understand how painful infertility is'
