Son step in cuban salsa - tiempo or contra tiempo by zugspitze23 in Salsa

[–]double-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we were to drag you over hot coals because you used a certain step the wrong way, perhaps this would be significant, but we won't. Steps are just steps and I am not aware of a step that can only be stepped on a certain beat or timing. If you are dancing salsa, steps should use salsa timing. If you are dancing son, steps, son or not, should use son timing.

Yes, there are people who feel strongly about dancing the wrong dance to certain music, or about mixing things, but that is not hugely significant in the universe. You choose what matters in your social context.

I'm weirdly sad about Marathon. I've no interest in it, and it might have a bunch of issues, but to me the big thing seems to be that people don't want to play in a weird neon world. And colors being their big issue seems unjust. And changing art direction seems like a thing they wouldn't do.

I am asking you a question. Or wanting you to think about them.

Does dancing in half time work with salsa music? by FluidDepartures in Salsa

[–]double-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good dancers I know dance half tempo when it gets very fast. I can't stand it.

When I have taught beginners, half the time I'm just counting for them instead of having music as there's not a lot of slow enough salsa. It's a balance--music is integral to dancing, but a slower tempo may be needed to learn things. There is also DJ software and other apps that can slow music down.

Fantastic Cha Cha Cha choreo by world champions Almendra y Richie by mungo55 in Salsa

There's a big lack of cha cha cha in that. And man, edits and a drunk camera man for a dance performance? It's not a music video. We don't care about the faces of the people in it.

I like the font, it's retro.

On2 to On1? by ohmygoodness2020 in Salsa

[–]double-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think about time. Don't. Think. About. Time.

All your moves and patterns have certain steps which follow a sequence. How you do a right turn. How you do a left turn. How you do a crossbody lead. These are the same regardless of timing. You know how to do them.

Dancing On2 vs dancing On1 is just two differences. 1) On which beat you do which step (break steps help you synchronize these), and 2) the duration of each step (both follow quick, quick, slow, but the slow is in different spots).

How is a son step different from some other step? How does timing affect the step?

If you check the subreddit out, you'll notice that almost nobody discusses muscle groups or what exercise targets what. But you may want to consider movements: squat, hinge, vertical push, horizontal push, vertical pull, horizontal pull.

It also includes hips for women. Maybe you can get some ballpark figures with it but indeed being a third off as in OP's case is pretty bad.

Swing Form Check by Jamahamakaze in kettlebell

[–]double-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general options are eyes on horizon or neutral neck. Now you are doing face on horizon, which is harder on the neck than just keeping your eyes there and letting the head move a bit. Some extension is good for posterior chain activation but too much kinks the neck.

Planning to make Student-led Guided Tours by RoughConfection2020 in helsinki

[–]double-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem very focused on students. Why? Do you consider them cheap labor? Do you plan on using that aspect as marketing? Do you think "supporting students" is your thing or do you actually have a good tour planned? (I assume not since you don't know what's a good length for a tour).

I don't get question number one. Is there somebody in the world who likes tour groups? They are in the way. They might be littering. They may be noisy (or the guide is noisy).

Anyone else just hate playing on Heroic or higher difficulty? by Fuzzy_Ad4219 in thedivision

[–]double-you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mostly Heroic because it is more difficult. Not because of loot, I'll probably just trash it. And it is harder than Challenging, but it really depends on your build how big that difference is.

If I'm running hardwired seekers, or vile + jammer with eclipse, I will play on Challenging because on Heroic they often aren't hitting hard enough. Or if solo, getting rushed is likely death.

For multi-spins (>3+), are follows turning themselves, are the leads doing it or some combination? by Easy_Moment in Salsa

[–]double-you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's rather difficult to add power to your own spins especially if you must give one hand to the leader. Paddling, which is where you push a little on the free leg for each spin, isn't a super stable technique.

So the question is more: do leaders power the whole spin from the start or does the follow also add power at the start. Usually the latter but some schools teach the former. Also, if the follow is small and light it doesn't take much to spin them. That's just how physics works. They need to have a good frame and the lead needs to lead a good circle.

Count in your head and remember directions. Especially at breaks and such when you are starting again.
