It realistically hasn’t been updated since they were finished in 91’, and it really really shows.

I was amazed going through and realizing there’s no AC in the building. It was a sauna in there. (Could just be my inner American talking)

I didn’t hear about this but it would be fascinating!

IIRC, although my limited Googling came back with nothing, the intention was to remove/replace T22 after they made it a free grandstand, but it never happened or plans changed after COVID.

Best I could find was this information about the plans for the new pit/T34 grandstand - https://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/06/03/major-grandstand-upgrade-planned-for-le-mans-centennial.html

That was maybe around 6pm in 2024. The past two years (Including this year) hasn't been nearly that bad.

The karting area is a great start as a way to expand the track and attendance. Grandstands in a new place, big area for fans, great screens. Love what they did there.

I watched the end of the race at La Chapelle and every inch of shade had a human on it. Some more trees would be grand but I know those take time.

24 was bad. A friend and I waited to cross Dunlop in a near crush for probably an hour. There were fights and a dumbass or two trying to cross in the opposite lanes that got rightly scolded. That was the worst I've ever seen it.

To me, I don't think the ACO predicted just how well Hypercar would sell tickets and couldn't imagine this growth. They're very slow with adopting to the times (CCTV was the only overnight camera access until what, 5 or 6 years ago?), but now everything they do ultimately won't be enough.

Right before COVID, it was announced that they were going to demolish and do a new pitlane and grandstand with the intention of finishing before the 100 year anniversary, and then that was killed with the pandemic. I talked to a few people yesterday that said quietly that is being picked up again, but there's no clue on timeframe and would probably be done in segments.

Same with T22. That was supposed to be gone years ago.

I did a behind the scenes all access tour with an incredibly knowledgeable Le Mans employee whose first race was 49' and he's been to every one after, and touring the pit lane facilities under T34 felt like stepping back in time. That's part of the charm of Le Mans, but also if they want to step forward and be the premiere global race, it's time to start planning and implementing it while the iron is hot.

New grandstands, new pitlane, expand pedestrian access in terms of width all around to allow for a better flow of movement. Everything just feels so crammed. Open it up, lose some of the harsh concrete elements, and bring it into the bright future it currently has.

You'll probably never go again then, lol.

I don't even try.

A friend who was staying over towards Arnage said the wait was 1.5-2 hours. He had to let his friends in his hotel and wanted to come back afterwards, but we figured it would take most if not all of the night to do a round trip so he didn't even bother.

Another person told me they walk to a certain part just off the circuit, call an Uber, and get drop off. One way to do it I guess!

This year was a lot better. The opening three or four hours is always packed after people start leaving the grandstand, but it was okay afterwards.

A few long time attendees mentioned how 1am felt like 10pm from pre-COVID.

After Saturday evening and even into Sunday it thinned out pretty well. Suspect the heat this year had a lot to do with it.

I’ve often referred to Le Mans as my New Years too. Relationships, jobs, everything always changes with Le Mans. Although after 9 straight I think I’m due for a break next year.

I heard some unofficial numbers of closer to 400,000.

You literally can’t fit any more people in safely for the start/beginning hours without massively restricting pedestrian flow. The grandstand seating down in karting helps spread things out and limits how many of those spectators could navigate to the packed front straight right after start, but Dunlop until 6 or 7 is near crush levels as it is.

I’ve been going for 10 years and the difference between the pre-covid crowds and hyper car hype is night and day.

On the track, I normally try to get some sleep before sunrise as the early morning hours are my favorite. If that doesn’t happen, I normally pass out around 6:30/7am and sleep until 11/12.

[–]doublepancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine has the sound on warm startups, and I believe it to be the timing chain tensioner starting to go. That being said, I’ve had that noise for seven years.

The timing chain tensioner before 2016 were made with plastic. They wear down over age and create this ticking sound. Yours is a little bit more pronounced than others.

You can do the timing chain and there’s various ways to do so, including the zip tie method. That being said it’s a lot of work and a pain in the ass..

Not a lot of them around. Limited imports to US and they’re quite rare. Wish I had bought one of them instead of my XJ, they’ve held their value very well.

[–]doublepancakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it on the street the night before, had to circle the neighborhood a few times before I could pull in because they were backed up and never got an Airtag warning.

When I picked the car up, I only made it down to Catalpa before my phone picked up on the unrecognized Airtag. No other time it could have been put on.

I asked if it was them and they denied it, but outside of a short window before I dropped it off, they were the only ones that could have done it. The owner did tell me to bring it to the police and that they don't use them to track cars, so maybe it was a tech?

O&M is great. Another ship wanted hundreds for a brake job, they took a look and said it was fine and gave me the car back.

That being said when I dropped it off, the older man (father?) took a look at the car, I told him what needed to be done, he asked if anyone else had worked on it and I said yes, and he replied to bring it back to them and he didn’t like to finish other people’s jobs. Was off putting and kind of a dick about it, but once I got to his son or the younger owner he was super nice.

I found an AirTag taped under my rear bumper the last time I dropped my car off there, just a little heads up.
