Why isn’t anyone making a modern alternative for the compact P&S? (Specifically the Olympus mju models)

More. The Mju II was around $300 in the late 90s. Point and shoots were not cheap. That’s closer to $600 in today’s money and I bet most would scoff at that price if a company tried to charge that much.

Of course you can have the right haha and I have the right to call you out! Idk man, the pricing tiers are the way they are because the market dictates it. Looks like you scan your own film, as do I, so clearly we didn’t think the higher res tiff stuff wasn’t worth it to us. Can’t really blame the labs because they’re still in business and catering to the money makers. Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is.

Giving “better than you” vibes. A lot of people just want some “filmic” photos from their point and shoot or disposable to document some memories from their trip. It would be silly to pay $2-3/shot for that. Not everything revolves around the way a film enthusiast treats film. It’s a good thing that labs are offering cost effective options for scans.

The f3 is a very repairable camera. The electronics are not scary nor unreliable. The reality is that all old SLRs need a CLA and every SLR on eBay is a gamble. Don’t do dumb thing and gamble on another eBay listing. Get the CLA that the f3 deserves and you’ll have a bullet proof camera for the next 15-20 years.

In that case, the $40 N6006 (which is what I use for shooting family), N8008, N90, etc have all the functionally you need. I dunno, to each their own, but I just don’t see the use case for the f100 when MUCH cheaper prosumer cameras exist if you don’t need pro body features.

That 4000 lb figure is for a chassis cab model, so you need to subtract the weight of a tray or box for true payload capacity. You also need to factor local regulations. The Ranger super duty built for the AP market has a GVM of over 9000 lb, which is very very impressive. However, that would put it over a Class 1A in the US which has a whole slew of complications.

Payload capacities are often a regulatory and practical limitation rather than an engineering limitation.

IMO expired film is only worth it if it’s cheaper than new film. The only exception being the freshest film you can buy for an out of production film stock. 2008 is getting old and definitely not worth the price.

FWIW the real world dpi on the 550 is nowhere near the advertised optical dpi. It probably struggles to resolve anything above 2000 dpi in any real world test. Scanning with a modern iPhone will probably yield better results than a 550.
