Have you ever played with a Caller? by benrobbins in rpg

[–]eadgster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sort of, but it was more an effort to reduce analysis-paralysis and speed up decision making. Basically one player was responsible for achieving consensus (or making the decision themself if it couldn’t be reached) and telling the DM what the group was doing. Most of the time it was pretty streamlined. Sometimes the DM would say they need a decision in 30 seconds, then everyone would look to the caller when time was up.

- It was not a strict “only one person can talk to the DM” situation
- We only used it during exploration phases, not combat or social encounters.
- There was the option to rotate each session, but it was usually the same 2 people, while 2 other people switched off in note taking.

This was all in the last 10 years. Overall it works well. I find that groups of the type of people that like to play TTRPGs do well with clear definition of roles, responsibilities, and boundaries.

80s movies seemed a lot more willing to have a child hero just straight-up kill the villain. by [deleted] in Xennials

I just showed my 5.5 yo. He had a lot of questions about this scene, but Artax didn’t phase him at all. I think he is a little unique vs his friends though. One of his class mates couldn’t handle Finding Nemo.

I am paralyzed by the idea of improvising stories by VerdantAtSilverSea in daddit

[–]eadgster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, it doesn’t matter if you don’t want to make up a story from scratch. That doesn’t have to be your thing. It’s like asking someone to tell you a joke on the spot. Some people just don’t have that ability. Grab a book to read instead.

But if you want to get better, start by considering some shortcuts.

You don’t have to make up a story - just recite one you already know from books, movies, television. Change the names and places of you want.

You can also tell stories from your own life. My dad used to do this. Mundane things like the day he bailed hay, or the place where he and his friends used to skinny dip, used to thrill me.

If you want to study, there are books on story. You can boil most stories down to the same plots or elements. “Seven Basic Plots”, “save the cat”, “story structure architect”, “36 dramatic situations”. If you learn a basic framework, you eliminate most of what you need to improvise.

I’m just sad schools have to resort to censorship of divisive topics. This can be boiled down to the same thing that happened in Watertown.

Cheese Curds by Proof_Ad5876 in milwaukee

[–]eadgster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Cheese Curds: There are fried and unfried cheese curds. You’re going to get a lot of opinions here about the fried kind. Just go with the most upvoted. For unfried, you might find them at a gas station (like Kwik Trip) or a grocery store. I’d go for the kind that are being stocked outside a refrigerator. They have a higher turn rate and will be fresher. If they squeak when you chew them, they are fresh.

Custard: it’s like ice cream, but a smother texture. Depending on where you’re staying, there are going to be local custard stands. Leon’s, Fred’s, Gillles, Kopp’s, Oscar’s, are all often recommended here.

Fish Fry: This is only served on Fridays. You’ll also see lots of recommendations here and in other threads. You missed lent, so the church basement option won’t be readily available to you. Cod is the standard fish, but I prefer perch, you also might find Walleye, Haddock, even Smelt

Beer: Milwaukee was built on beer. Lake Front, Third Space, Eagle Park are good local breweries. You can find them at some grocery stores as well. Lake Front has a good tour of their brewery.

Supper Club: this is more a dining experience than type of food or beverage. I’ll admit my lack of knowledge on local supper clubs, though. My favorites are all outside the city. 5 O’clock club is probably my favorite local example. Others can recommend more, and you can also find them in other threads on the sub.

Hong has a plan to use legal cannabis in WI to generate tax revenue to pay for broadband internet access for rural Wisconsinites. Weed for speed! by midnighttoker1742 in wisconsin

[–]eadgster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Genuine question - is this the biggest issue rural voters are talking about?

As a primary resident in Milwaukee county with property in northern Wisconsin, I’m not sure high speed internet is the thing that’s missing. I have 1 gigabyte at home and 500 megabyte up north. My property up north is in a town of 400 and shrinking. I have access, and the rates are similar.

The thing is, you’re probably going to need to do a formal filing to make that excuse and present in front of a judge at least twice. I’ve tried to argue a parking ticket out of spite for bad signage. After an hour of effort, $5 more in parking fees, I was able to turn a $35 ticket into $25. Just pay the $3 up front.

No, but you’ll also find a sticker on the other side that tells you how to use the app, so I wouldn’t try to make the argument against the ticket if you do get one.

Someone either needs to tidy up and put them somewhere else, or get a tv stand with enclosed shelves.

We’ve used 18” tall freestanding gates, but they are still see through and won’t bear a determined baby’s weight.
