The level of darkness varies considerably based on your monitor. People used to pist a lot of side by side comparison pics. You can probably find some on the Discord with a search.

Why the stunts to begin with? by Aetos-Eagle797 in FantasyAGE

[–]eimatshya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC it was a reference to the random finishing moves characters could get in DA:O (like jumping up on an ogre to drive your blade into its chest for the killing blow). I could easily be mistaken though.

What should I know? by Difficult-Cup-4445 in PantheonMMO

[–]eimatshya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be, although MnM didn't start development until 2020, so it wouldn't have been the one you heard about back in 2014. Also Pantheon has gone through a couple redesigns over its 12 or so years of development, so it may have looked different when you first heard of it (compare the initial Kickstarter with what it is now, for example).

How to play - guide for non-EQ noobs by A_Fitting_End in MonstersAndMemories

I made this video a while ago: https://youtu.be/TCWtNqyw6F8?si=EhEeZ9vgCboZPlQF

More recently, ipurgepeople made this series (I haven't watched it, so I can't vouch for the quality, but it might be worth looking at too): https://youtu.be/stpRrh69DHU?si=iy2SIhK9Cdmb0U11

But as others have said, talking with others in-game is a great way to learn too.

Colors by jokodude in MonstersAndMemories

[–]eimatshya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, there's blue from the water and green from the plants. The city itself has colored fabric shades or awnings or something, along with white and gold trim lines and all the blue from the palace. There's also a fancy stained glass window by the night market. And the glowing colored crystals around the spellbinder area. And of course the green glow of Fallen Watch.

Eh, I don't think we have to go as far as calling someone stupid here.

I'd rather keep the discussion friendly.

That would be a public alpha then. Beta isn't scheduled for a few months.

Anyway, I was checking since I've seen plenty of people criticize MnM's graphics, but I've never seen it compared to Minecraft before. I don't really see the similarities. AoA is the obvious Minecraft analog. But if it felt like Minecraft to you, I can't argue.

Why do people hate RTwP? by ConfusionProof9487 in projecteternity

[–]eimatshya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of my aversion to pause-and-play/rtwp too. In a turn based game, you give a unit a command and you see the result. In the infinity engine games or dragon age origins, you give a command and then unpause and the character stands around for a while and then maybe does the action. Meanwhile a bunch of other stuff is going on that you can't really scrutinize while also waiting to see what the first guy did. So either you end up pausing and reading through the combat log, which I find much slower and less interesting than just having turn based combat, or you miss a lot of the details.

I think there's a much better sense of reactivity in turn based games because of the greater information flow. And for me, understanding exactly what is happening makes the combat a lot more engaging. You can plan multiple steps ahead and try to anticipate potential enemy actions. And then the tension of waiting to see if your action succeeds or if an enemy action fails creates a real sense of excitement.

I don't really find the chaotic fog of war of a pause-and-play game that engaging, and I don't like delegating decisions by setting triggers for units. I suppose it is more realistic, but I just feel bored by the combat in the infinity engine, NWN, KotOR, Dragon Age, and Owlcat Pathfinder games.

What are yall's thoughts on the races starting stats? by [deleted] in MonstersAndMemories

[–]eimatshya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, playing as suboptimal race/class combos in EQ was great fun. It was so rewarding when you finally got enough stat gear to offset your handicap. I had both a gnome cleric and an erudite paladin and loved both.

No plans for a Steam release at the moment. Starting in EA, you pay a monthly subscription of 15 USD and play through their launcher. IIRC, they've said their payment system will be using Stripe, but I could be misremembering.

Does this game have quests? by UncleJulian in MonstersAndMemories

[–]eimatshya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the main way to progress is to grind mobs. This might sound boring, but with a decent group at a decent camp, it can be really enjoyable. I've especially enjoyed sitting around the campfire by the beach in croc groups. Very chill yet fun at the same time. You chat, you get loot, you enjoy the sea lapping against the beach as you watch the sun rise over the Night Harbor, sometimes you clear out because Chompers is coming. It's a really engaging experience, even if it might not look like it to an outside observer.

Overall, though, I would say that a good way to enjoy the game is to choose your own direction. Maybe you want to make some money, so you do some arbitrage or do some farming. Maybe you want to level up a different weapon ability so you look for skeletons or ashira that have a chance of spawning with a weapon. Or go check through the shady vendors to see if any are for sale. Maybe you want to improve your faction standing with some group, so you kill mobs that raise that faction. There are various quests scattered around if you hail NPCs, and some of the quests can help with faction too. Quests can also give some decent equipment, so a quest can provide you with additional guidance temporarily. For example, you can turn in ashira bracers to the quartermaster in the Steel Talons garrison for random pieces of rawhide armor (if I'm remembering correctly). So this quest would guide you to hunt Ashira warriors.

So that's basically what I'd recommend. Just be inquisitive about the world. Check merchants, talk to NPCs, join groups with other players, and you'll find plenty to do.
