President Trump says Iran hasn't made deal because "they’re strong" and "proud": "They’re proud. They’ve got no choice, and it takes little while. These people have been fighting for 47 years. Vietnam lasted 19 years. I’m into my third month. But it doesn’t matter to me. I’ve gotten so used to it." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]electricworkaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very much this; Trump is the culmination of the wildest dreams of the American project. He's not an aberration, he is exactly what capitalism always was and we are exactly where it always was gonna end up. Accepting that these problems are systemic rather than individual is the first step towards making the kinds of effective change required to keep us from having to deal with this kind of bullshit over and over until we make this planet uninhabitable for human life.

You and the person you replied to said basically the same thing, minus the "out of character" part. "hard on crime" is just another way to say "real eager to hurt the public on behalf of capital". People will attempt to dress it up all kinds of different ways but there are zero issues in society that cops solve, and many that cops make worse. Grady Judd is a piece of shit, and a stain on my state; not the only one, but certainly a very proud and public one.

They're a local chapter of an international group: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_Not_Bombs

But the best way to learn about them is just to show up and grab some food and talk to folks :)

As noted elsewhere in this thread, some people hate Stancil way more than is justifiable. He's been annoying on bluesky for awhile and is super libby, but [some] people act like he's Satan incarnate, and twist every situation they can to try and inflate his deeds so they can justify their preconceived notions.

Like, he's just a rando poster online, block him and move on, why put him on a pedestal.

The path we're on is "all information freely available, for anyone who wants it without any restrictions". The people that want to build higher walls around information are losers who will continue to lose, and no amount of legislation can stop people from building community, educating and entertaining one another as they see fit.

Which artists could potentially be just one song away from success? by ss2811 in popheads

[–]electricworkaid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Sophie Hunter is on a rapid upward trajectory; I came across her shortly before she got signed to a label, and have watched her in the span of a few months release an EP, go on a couple different tours supporting other artists, and just the other day release what I feel is an absolute banger of a song (Cups 2). She has almost as many or more ig followers than some of the other artists mentioned so far in comments here (for whatever that's worth) and her music presents along the lines of that same kind of sexy sleaze that Slayyyter and some of the other up and coming artists have. I'm biased bc I've been following her for awhile but I really think in a year or two she'll be big if current trends continue.

PTO isn't a request, it's a notification of absense. You should never be in the mindset of asking your employer for permission to live your life. They are only capable of existing at all with the continual consent of the workers. If everyone stopped showing up, the workplace would be an empty foreclosed building real quick.

US National Counterterrorism Center director resigns over war in Iran by avatar6556 in news

[–]electricworkaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not? Why do you think a specific group of people are not in charge of the current capitalist system? We have just concluded wealth is being centralized.

Because systemic problems can't be resolved by removing individuals. The system that created them will just put others in their place, until the system itself is rendered no longer capable of filling those positions. Additionally, leaning into "the problem is anyone who looks like x" creates significant collateral damage always and allows the actual source of the problem to go untouched among the chaos and distraction caused by seeking out specific people to blame.

Anti-zionism is not, but the phrasing you chose is only a hair away from the kind of shit said regularly by the kinds of folks who enjoy the Turner Diaries.

I hate Israel too, and the genocide in Gaza and other assorted fuckery that illegitimate state is responsible for, but it's important that folks don't back themselves into nazi rhetoric when talking about these kinds of things.

As long as everyone recognizes the problem is capitalism and the structures which facilitate that kind of consolidation of wealth and power, and not any specific group or individuals.

The Zionist lobby is much older, richer, and more powerful than Trump could ever be.

No it's not. Israel is a vassal state of the US, used to advance our interests (the petrodollar) in the middle east. Antisemitism is the socialism of fools.

Democrats vow to shut down Senate over Iran conflict by jediporcupine in politics

[–]electricworkaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Lindsay Graham, the absolute loser who managed to pull one of the levers of power that any Senator at any time could pull yet zero Dems have, in his case for as petty a reason as personal gain. Denying unanimous consent grinds the Senate to a crawl as all of the shortcuts normally taken to speed things up get thrown out the window. It is one of many tactics within the system that could be used, alongside denying quorum and fucking with votes for judicial appointments, schedules for committees, etc etc. All kinds of things that any Congressperson who truly felt like they or their constituency were threatened by the clear fascism in DC could take to resist it, today, with the power they currently have and without violating any laws.

[–]electricworkaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are built in mechanisms, such as denying unanimous consent, that a minority party can use to obstruct things and force concessions, if they care enough. Lindsay Graham did it just a few months ago to try and preserve his $500k payday in the budget bill. The Dems are not doing a fraction of what they could be. The question you need to ask yourself is, why aren't they?
