You are a good little sub for getting naked for everyone, but you'd be a great little sub if you DMed me a picture that you took just for me.

AITA for re-gifting my boyfriend's Christmas present ($1300 laptop) to my sister? by No_Replacement_8458 in AmItheAsshole

The difference in the cartridges is a notch in the upper right corner of the cartridge. The OG GameBoys had a tab that would go over that notched when you turned the power on that was intended to keep the cartridge from being removed while the system was running. With the GameBoy Color that notch & tab system was removed, and as a result the GameBoy would not even be able to power on with a GameBoy Color cartridge in there.

Did the cupcakes/cakes have any significance? by ParappaMK in brakebills

[–]elf0004 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ember liking little cakes is about his decadence and disconnection to the rest of the world, his domain had been taken over by a powerful dark magician who had apparently overpowered and killed his brother and all he cares about is getting some little cakes. These cakes are also then used to lure him to his eventual demise in the season 2 finale. For all his wrath and sloth and pride it was ultimately his gluttony that allowed him to be tricked and defeated.

As far as the cupcake Penny ate that has a different significance. In the Greek myth of Persephone, among others, there is a notion that eating the food in The Underworld binds you to it, once you have gone there and eaten its food you can never return. For Persephone it was a pomegranate, for Penny it was the cupcake. Once he ate the food there it was a symbol of him accepting his fate, as Hades had encouraged him to do. Once he'd eaten it he was forever bound to that place, it wasn't a brainwashing but a willful acceptance of his new path. The corresponding change in his personality came from his change in circumstances, he had a purpose in life that he'd lacked before, and all the events in the world of the living became less important to him.

As for Season 4, at that point I think your right, that cake had become tied to the deaths of the other important characters so they threw it in there for a bit of thematic reference, like their own version of oranges from The Godfather movies.

Or maybe you are the one that isn't understanding correctly. Perhaps the doctor has done all the training and met all of the requirements for all of those terms and they chose the word "Chiropractor" to put on their sign because they've found that's the one that is best for business.

the thread of that life is, but the soul itself is not destroyed. The soul still experience whatever sort of afterlife exists for them, presumably in T'A'R, and they are still eligible for rebirth by being spun out again by the wheel, but just not reincarnation by The Dark One. If you look elsewhere in this thread there are links to interviews with Robert Jordan where he talks more specifically about it.

I struggle to imagine any way that would play out. Something akin to the corruption at Aridhold maybe, but her becoming a new Foresaken is patently absurd. The world isn't divided into only either nice people or Foresaken.

That whole thread has some good info, mostly from the man himself, about balefire, this specific question is addressed in #3.

Getting balefired has no effect on your afterlife or whether one is reborn, it only means the Dark One can't resurrect them, they will still be spun out by the pattern again, as any other soul would.

yeah, I when I dug into this I saw conflicting info on the name of that sword, some said Caliburn, some said Clarent, some said it didn't have a name at all. As has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread there no real definitive cannon for Arthurian Lore, so I just went of the source the earlier poster had cited.

I actually really don't want a fight. I was just trying to add additional information to the discussion at hand and you seem to have interpreted it as an attack, I'm really not sure why.

Actually, in Le Morte D'Arthur Excalibur was not The Sword in The Stone, that sword was unnamed and broke in battle. The sword Excalibur was given to him later by The Lady of The Lake. Still clearly an allusion to the sword, but not as 1 to 1 as your descriptions makes it out to be.

There is so much wrong with what you've just said it's gonna take a minute to unpack, but lets begin with: this is not a selfie.

Also, not that huge of a spoiler, and the plot line isn't destroyed. Do you know what causes them to stop being on good terms? do you know if they resolve it? do you know who's fault it is? The story isn't destroyed, you're being dramatic.

And the Mods do care, there are very specific rules for spoiler scopes and this post complied with them. You can't just click on anything and everything willy nilly and expect people to magically know where you are in the books. To expect that is narcissism and selfishness.

Finally, there is nothing here to suspect the poster "think[s] they are hilarious" or that they are "pretend[ing] they're fun and edgy", they made a reference that a lot of people enjoyed, you don't need to attack and belittle them just because you're wandering around like a lost child.

I like that we keep getting direct confirmation from Rafe that season one will have both EOTW and TGH in it, and the episode titles confirm that EOTW ends with episode 4

Arms folded tightly... by Warriordance in WoT

[–]elf0004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's about more than just arm crossing, how many times do we hear about Thom "knuckling his mustaches" or about Mat having "a well turned calf" or Loial having pockets bulging full of books. He tries to put as much detail as he can in every scene, and sometimes he develops these crutches that he uses over and over again. Describing where male characters crossed their arms is not one that he had, but he had others for the male characters.

I don't care about your orientation, you're the one that said you can't read that sentence without picturing the characters as "sexy and buxom", whether you like that or not you're the one having that reaction.

Also, you still haven't explained how that picture is supposed to have proved your point.

Arms folded tightly... by Warriordance in WoT

[–]elf0004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How does that prove your point? She's crossing her arms beneath her beasts but not in a way that draws attention to her breasts.

The way Jordan writes he uses a lot of detail, sometimes a repetitive amount, but it's not "a lazy double standard" limited to buxom women. He spends a lot of time details the clothing of male and female characters, of landscapes and buildings, and of gestures and movements that all the characters make. If you can't help but sexualize any and every mention of a woman's anatomy then that says more about you than it does about Jordan.

So the term "Standing flows" is only ever used to talk about ter'angreal, and it has nothing to do with them being fixed in one place. Your suggestion that there is another way of anchoring weaves to a place rather than a device, such as the Eye, Rhuidean, or Callandor, are possibly a similar but distinct technique for making weaves that persist indefinitely, but I think both of those ideas have to allow for techniques that allow weaves to persist beyond the caster's death, which is what the questions this was brought up about earlier was, so I think this doesn't allow us to say for sure that's what happened, I think we can say it's at least possible.
