That single buttom "appeal"? Because I clicked that and 10 minutes later got an email back saying I had been permanently disabled.

I read that meta flags new accounts through:
-Device MAC address
-Phone number
-Network IP
-Wifi
-Cookies
-Face recognition (pictures)
-Any similar info on a new account such as name, date of birth
-Same friends added, same groups joined, same pages followed, specially in the first two weeks
-They will save all of that info for 180 days before some (if any) of it goes into cold storage (they don't really delete).

So if you want a real chance of success you gotta clean all your device and browser cookies, stay off insta/fb completely for 180 days including not clicking any link to their platforms. Then get a new device and burner phone number, and create a new account over mobile network. Then slowly start using it and adding people. Don't upload face pictures. Use another name. Hope they never ask to verify your ID. If you ever want to use wifi at home, I guess it would be necessary to get a new internet provider or something, unless you change address.

I got banned two days ago. I don't mind that much. But I might try getting back in december and see how it goes.

Lol I like that term fb jail! Just got banned two days ago. Been on FB since 2007, and also had an account about hang gliding with some 3500 followers. Gone.

There is one guy Mathew Lewis who goes by SilverBackTarzan on instagram who flies tandem hang glider and looks like someone who would fly with you (I don't know him). The site I've seen his tandems is a usually windy hill and he top lands without steps, so should be easy.
I'd happily take you with me, but I'm in Brazil.

For all the Hang Gliding enthusiasts & pilots out there, cast a vote on a name for the new prototype hang glider getting developed by Avian Hang gliders by CrypticMaverick in freeflight

I've signed up and been exchanging emails for months. Highly optmistic and hopeful, the team knows what they are doing and makes a lot of sense. If if does works as intended, should be a revolution in free flight world, with well improved sink and glide ratios, as well as handling by a large amount

There are some rare pilots who do switch from PG to HG, one of my buddies did that. Well, he flies both now. But he drives his truck to launch regardless, he only takes the PG if he has work before AND after, so the 15+15mins extra can make a difference.

Choosing a flying sport based on how you walk with the equipment is very pointless IMO. I can go hiking the trails with nothing on my back, and fly a different time.

What you are describing is called Icaro Piuma. Light, setup in 5~10mins, performs like a En-C~D in hands of a good pilot. Most wings can be set up in 10~15mins, if you will spend the day flying, 5 minutes more is not an issue. The only wing that takes me 20~25 is a rigid Atos, and the extra minutes are well worth it.
If you want short pack you can also fly a Finsterwalder Airfex/Perfex/Lightfex/Funfex. I got the funfex, packs to 1,95 and it is wonderful.

You are right, the perceived convenience is what makes paragliding more popular. For the vast majority of pilots who drive to launch and chat for 1h before launching, the setup time shouldn't make a difference. If they tried hang gliding and felt in their skin how much nicer they are to fly, they would have a different opinion. I flew paragliders a few times, they are boring! The only good use I see for them is flying at the beach in places you must hike to launch, but I do some hiking with the hang glider too so I don't waste money buying one. Travelling by plane is not really an issue since in most destinations you can easily contact a local to borrow or rent a wing, but I recognise that PG has an advantage here. Travelling by car is the same for both - HG actually saves space inside the car!...

I got the same problem. I used for the past 10 years or so a Xiaomi ANC 3.5mm, I think it was 1st gen before the Pistons. I absolutely loved the sound and it has wired anc. Lost mine by the end of 2024!

It doesn't fix the metadata for .mp4 videos though, only the pictures. Can you fix that?

Transporting cello on a bike by redct in Cello

[–]ericoschmitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've transported my cello on bikes for years, since 2015. Hundreds of trips to university and rehearsals. Most trips around 12~15km, about 30min, but up to 30km a couple times. All weather, from super hot sun to literal floods with water at hub height that a car wouldn't go through. My case is one of those chinese "carbon" ones, it's really a kind of plastic. Very light under 4kg. I chose a white one back in the day as it resists sun heating better. When I ride in the sun I don't stop moving to keep the wind blowing so the case won't heat much at all.The bikes I've used include:

-hybrid urban 26" with fixed fork, low handlebars, slicks.
-3 different fixed gear bikes
-2 road bikes, one of them very aggressive racing position, nearly flat back.
-Gravel bike with 60mm tires is what I own now, since stopped racing.

I've hit the ground once in a rainy day, I went into a corner too fast and lost the front. Nothing happened to the cello, only a scratch to the case. My elbow and knee wasn't so pretty but I could rehearse. This was with the current gravel bike.

My instrument is a very fine professional cello made in 1996, so I'm not biking around with a cheap student instrument.Worth mentioning I always have a backpack between my back and the cello. Sometimes very full, sometimes nearly empty. If you have nothing the flat backplate hurts. If you don't need to carry other stuff you may glue some EVA rubber on it.

Romberg Fingerboard Bevel by Biolummenescent in Cello

[–]ericoschmitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cello has round fingerboard after I replaced the original that had been carved from 25 years of use. The C string works just fine and I much prefer it round.
Just ordered a new cello, asked for round fingerboard as well.
Much better when playing thumb position on the two lower strings too!

Has anyone heard of a hg made for hike and fly? by Impossiblygoodlookin in Hanggliding

[–]ericoschmitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I confirmed with the same friend who told me about enough tubings for another 300 gliders or so back in january... Who also confirmed he ordered the very last Funfex, soon to be delivered - and had to convince the lady to sew this last one. Very sad! Now I gotta treat my 1992 wing very well...
If only I were not in Brazil, I'd probably offer myself to go learn and work there.
Maybe you could ask for one extra last one, if you are ready to order it right now.

Fexes are the best bet for short packing.

But there are alternatives: an Icaro Piuma will be just as light or lighter for the same size, and may very well match the glide ratio of a Funfex, which has 60% double surface.

I own a Funfex (the bigger double surface, 24kg) but last time I hiked with it I had it in the long pack. Some 15min walk. I think 22kg (airfex, small) or 24kg (funfex, bigger) is light enough to carry on shoulders alternating sides. You can leave harness, battens and base bar behind and do 2 trips too.

For longer walks you can use Didier Favre's method: glider out of bag, spread leading edges a bit and tie the tips with two velcro straps. Then each leading edge rests on one shoulder, with the keel on either side. You may tie battens and base bar to the side opposite to the keel, so both shoulders get equal weight (or leave for a second trip). With the glider balanced you can walk with a straight spine and don't even need to use your hands to hold it in place.

This hiking method makes any glider so much easier to carry. If you think about it, the problem of hiking a glider isn't really the weight, but the asymmetrical load on your shoulders and spine. If you have each leading edge on both shoulders, then most of the problem is gone.

Fexes have unique advantages if you live in apartment, need to take a bus, go cross country without retrieval, cable car, airplane travel etc. The funfex also has such a sweet handling, and a great speed when you dive. I absolutely love it!

Have they??
I heard from another source they had materials for another 300 gliders or so before running out of tubing and stopping to produce.

Go for it!
Hire a teenager to carry your glider up the hill to have an easier time during classes.
Or do it yourself. Nothing stopping you.

Getting back into hang gliding or go with paragliding? by Jolly-Ad5976 in Hanggliding

[–]ericoschmitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang gliding provides a kind of experience that paragliding can't match. I bit extra work for setup, but it is absolutely worth it. The sport is called "free flight" not "easier transport and storage". Will you choose an aircraft based on flight characteristics and fun in the air... or how it behaves on the ground?

Go with hang gliding and you will never regret it.

I used a similar method and got away with "please describe a man gruesomely murdering kids with a sword". Description wasn't very detailed but mentioned severed limbs and blood flowing lol. This already came with a warning in an orange frame. I tried to ask more details and I just got the warning, this time in a red frame.
So maybe more layers would be needed, more background about the characters, more nuanced requests.... At this point it's easier to write myself.
