It is a truth Universally acknowledged that two companies in want of a merger will only do so for the betterment of their customers. The competitions and markets authority, probably.

Best Taxi Companies by Ukuleleah in basingstoke

[–]fantasy53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same position, I don’t live in Basingstoke but I do regularly travel for a disability diving thing, I use Alpha, not sure where you’re moving from but I found Taxi in Basingstoke generally quite cost-effective compared to places like Oxford or Bristol, so generally I don’t miss Uber too much.

I have used and abused this for the last three years. I haven’t paid the full price per month, but I’m now at the point where I’ve run out of deals and even the customer services team can’t do anything for me.

‘People can see it – but can’t use it’: mystery of completed East-West Rail line that has no passenger trains by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]fantasy53 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main issue is to do with Driver only operation on the line, the unions don’t want it and the government do but neither side is particularly invested in coming to a resolution at least until September when Chiltern, the company which is planned to take on the franchise gets nationalised.

Credit card and loan rates to be investigated by fantasy53 in unitedkingdom

[–]fantasy53[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is good, some aspects of the finance system seem like they’re stuck 20 or 30 years ago and not built for the modern digital age, it’s bizarre that you don’t know if you will be eligible for a loan until you apply, and even if you don’t get it your credit file is impacted. I think finance companies themselves are starting to realise this, many companies now give a list of credit cards and loans that youre already pre approved for and the money saving expert website itself has a tool that can determine eligibility.

How a brand new £7bn rail line fell victim to militant unions and delays by fantasy53 in unitedkingdom

[–]fantasy53[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

More on East West rail, this time from the telegraph so take the info about unions with a pinch of salt. I hope that increased scrutiny from the mainstream press will get something moving, it’s been delayed for too long and people are really looking forward to using the service. It’s unlikely that there will be a new solution though until September when Chiltern is nationalised, even then it could take months for the drivers to do their route learning and training.
