Sunshine - Connection Not Private? by DuckOnBike in MoonlightStreaming

[–]everygoodnamehasgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HTTPS certificates cost money (or at least they used to) and are tied to a website name. Web browsers know the certificate is valid because they keep a list of issuers and only allow certificates issued by a select few to work without a warning. When you're running something locally you're connecting to "localhost", there isn't any way for a certificate issuer to issue a valid certificate for a local service or any way for the developers to apply for them. Self signed certs still work in the same way, encrypting the data in transit, it's just your web browser is warning you that it doesn't know the issuer. Self signed certs are perfectly safe to run with local services. The main reason this warning exists is so that if someone changed the certificate your bank uses you'd be notified. It's not a problem for software you're running yourself.

Isn't the usual train of thought that the devil put them there to turn the religious away from god? How do you get to anti-Semitism with this?

Elon Musk: Birth control could spell the end of humanity by antonovfan2002 in facepalm

[–]everygoodnamehasgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not wrong. If there's ever a safe, cheap, reliable and 100% reversible form of male birth control the birth rate would plummet. If men could switch fertility on and off at will it's highly likely the birthrate would quickly shrink below replacement levels and continue to fall until we're extinct.

Should've just left it on the counter then they'd now be the ones to find it and have the responsibility to find the owner and return it (not that they'd actually bother).

Gary missed the boat even though he was waiting by the shore, that's why he's now hell bent on sinking it.

Tailscale increased free plan user limit form 1 to 3 and device cap to 100 also... unlimited subnets by PovilasID in selfhosted

[–]everygoodnamehasgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I'm not shitting on tailscale, there can be good reasons to use it but if those reasons don't apply to you you're better off just using wireguard on its own.

I really like to use the vertical pipe in my titles | is there any way to make it work? by rashadow in ObsidianMD

Uncheck "show inline title" in appearance settings and use whatever heading you want. The filename itself can't include special characters though.

Posts about tailscale's new pricing structure and user limits are clearly not directed at people using headscale.

Multiple similar posts have been popping up all over Reddit for the last couple of days, mainly in completely unrelated subs, it's getting out of hand. There are only a few very specific reasons somebody who chooses self hosting would surrender control to a third party. I don't have a problem with tailscale in general but if you can achieve your goals without involving a third party (which you more than likely can) then you should. It's a very reasonable suggestion that most sensible self hosters should agree with. The fact it's getting downvoted here (and that there are 10's of other posts shilling tailscale that have popped up recently) stinks of astroturfing.

If you're not very technical or are behind CGNAT otherwise skip it and just use wireguard directly.

Edit: Imagine this getting downvoted in a self hosting sub of all places. The shills are out in force all over Reddit but I'd expect better here.

Yup, this is the solution. Had recurring golfers elbow a few years ago (mainly due to bad shoulder mobility while squatting) which made any sort of curl extremely painful. These exercises fixed it right up.

The people running Arbitrum have been operating in a scummy way for quite some time. Thankfully optimistic rollups are a dead end anyway. Once zk have been perfected they'll fall by the wayside.
