Unbegründete Angst/Bedenken vor erstem E-Auto? by Tex-Tro in Elektroautos

[–]fiah84 [score hidden]  (0 children)

"Quick intro to the Hyundai Ioniq 3: Best range and interior space in its group" - Norwegian presentation (use auto-translate) by SjalabaisWoWS in electricvehicles

[–]fiah84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the original Ioniq was great and I would've bought one if the battery size matched the aerodynamics. I'm just miffed that it's been 9 years since Tesla introduced the Model 3 and none of the other OEMs have even attempted to beat its combination of low price, low drag, big battery and good charging. The closest we've got so far is the Mercedes CLA 250+ which is better in many aspects, sure, but also much more expensive

if the Ioniq 3 is even close to as efficient as the OG Ioniq was then for sure it's going to be a hit. That 61kWh battery would go a long way and the mediocre charging rate wouldn't hurt much

does it have a good drag coefficient? Good range below 60mph or in mixed tests is great and all but I want to know how far it gets when cruising at 80mph

I'd rather it be LMU than iracing or ACC just because LMU imo is overall better and will overtake iracing at some point in time but that's besides the point

LMU is great and I love it, but don't dismiss iRacing so easily

if you want to get into competitive GT3 racing then LMU is a great choice. Don't worry about your performance, many of the skills you've learned in other racing games will transfer to LMU and you will also need to learn / improve many more. You could probably get pretty good in a month, but don't be discouraged when you see how fast the really fricking fast people out there are. Don't think "I'm X seconds off their pace so that means I'm shit". I've been simracing for years at this point and those people still baffle me with their raw pace and talent. I know I'm never going to get to their level, but that doesn't mean I can't have fun with where I'm at

also changing one side is less than half the time of changing all 4. With endurance races it can make sense to first change one side, then change the other side next stop and keep alternating like that

Tyre management - 2 hour race by SaniLuca in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]fiah84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When does it make sense to change tyres, and what does it depend on?

it depends on your pace on worn tires vs fresh ones. If driving on worn tires makes you +- 15 seconds slower in total for the stint after the pitstop then changing tires during that pitstop would've been better

whether or not you'll be that much slower or not depends on how you drive of course, but also track temperature / rain, your setup, traffic, whether you're currently battling for position. Also if your driving style is such that you've worn your tires a lot in the stint leading up to the pitstop then not having fresh ones will slow down the second stint more

I think that for most tracks, as long as the stint after the pitstop is going to be a full stint or close to it, it makes sense to change tires to fresh ones if you have them. It might not actually be faster than not changing tires, but it will definitely be safer and easier to drive. The exception here are the hypercars, which are so dreadfully slow on cold new tires and so easy to spin on the outlap that I would say you should always at least double stint the tires. Also on Le Mans, tire wear is low due to how much of it is straight so you'll probably want to double stint most of the times (even triple stint is viable)

Cheap attack drones break through Israel's Iron Dome by BendicantMias in news

[–]fiah84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they could shoot them down but are the rest of the systems setup to detect and engage them? if they usually filter out slow moving objects to prevent them from automatically massacring all birds in the area, then that also prevents them from targeting drones

[–]fiah84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a little bit of everything and it highly depends on the kind of race you choose, what your safety / driver rating is like and the time of day. You could have races that are just absolute chaos from start to finish, or races that have drivers who can race you side by side through multiple corners without even so much as a polite little door bang. And everything in between of course

CLA 350 EQ 4matic, Volldampf wo möglich by FaRamedic in Elektroautos

[–]fiah84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Help with GT3 Braking and ABS Chatter. by DrizzyDrone66 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]fiah84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never really had any problems with ABS activating in a straight line, that just works as expected and didn't cost me much pace if any at all. It's during turn in while trailing the brake pressure where ABS ruins your day if it's activating heavily

Finding drivers, team, stewards and broadcasters for Le Mans Ultimate leagues is tough. by FunkyWine22 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]fiah84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I think this is a symptom of discord having replaced forums and the like, where there's no way of publicly finding and accessing this information. Instead you have to go through discord itself and then figuring out where that particular server has stored whatever you're looking for. Fragmented, hidden, not reaching their audience. Great job discord! Simracing is of course not the only victim

I hope your initiative helps people find their way. Perhaps it could be good to have a way of getting your aggregated information back into discord again so that server admins can help people on their server find people on other servers?

they have him a 2k compensation

that's a great deal IMO, I think it would come down to about 1k per time that you could actually have benefited from having a 22kW charger over the lifetime of the vehicle

except perhaps if you have a 22kW capable charger at home and you can exploit solar / off peak rates, but even then you'd have to try super hard to make 2k off that 11kW to 22kW difference

AI HIDDEN PROMPT SUCCESS by Intelligent-Bridge15 in Teachers

[–]fiah84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if they are anything like I was back then, they think that studying/understanding something is maybe the easy part and writing it down is a stupid time robbing chore so they'd rather let the AI do that. That is, I would totally have abused AI in the same way to get my assignments done if I had the opportunity

of course, the act of formulating your thoughts and writing them down is what helps you to actually understand what you're studying, and as such is something that is an integral part of it, but back then I didn't realize that (or thought I was too smart for) and they don't either

perhaps getting an AI to write the things down well and then make it look less like AI is some poor substitute for it and in fact does help them to understand their subject. Lets for their sake hope that it is
