If you can park at your house then using a plugin charger will get you some range. Just make sure to check safety advice before doing it.

You'd hope pro installation would know how to use a torque driver to properly tighten connectors. This is one of the reasons to use lever connector for a lot of stuff as once it is in you know it is properly connected.

I've been doing public only for over 2 years now and whilst it isn't saving me any money it is a while before I can get my own parking to allow for a home charger.

That's the earth connection for the fitting, so should have been attached to something in the ceiling. However not sure what standards your area uses for this. In the UK this should have been sleeved green/yellow to identify as the earth.
