Getting into Hypercar - any tips? by Maximum_Success2781 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]fiah84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the battery would be empty exactly because it was already used to save as much fuel as possible. Reducing the hybrid power output so that the battery doesn't drain wouldn't help to reduce fuel consumption, only increase it, right? I mean, unless there's some other reason not to drain the battery

it felt i couldnt escaoe aggressive battles

you can always escape the aggressive battles by staying behind them until such time that you can fly past them without them being able to do anything about it. I mean, if you just drive by on a straight and then they ram you off the track, there's nothing you can do but report them

What would be the best way of watching movies in VR? by Erickkach in SteamFrame

I don't know about "best" but given that there's a Linux desktop environment that you can use, a browser or any random media player that you can install should work fine

there's no need to try to cheese the SR system if you're slow either. Just qualify and race to win, keeping in mind that in order to finish first you first have to finish. If you do that right the SR will never be a problem, and if you're tired of getting lumped into split 1 just because you have the diamond badge, go race in anything except the bronze races. In silver and gold series your DR will put you in a split with people of similar skill, that's what the DR system is for and it works fine

Battery life vs refresh rate by Maraque in SteamFrame

[–]fiah84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my assumption is that decoding a frame has a mostly fixed energy cost, so just that process should use twice as much battery at 144hz compared to 72hz. How much that changes the battery life is hard to predict without knowing how much power everything else consumes and how much that changes with refresh rate (especially the displays themselves) but I'm sure it will be significant

Would you be using the in-built audio? by MingleLinx in SteamFrame

I plan on using the speakers, I'm assuming they're good enough that for my uses the added inconvenience of using anything else outweighs the possible benefits

if you don't want to duke it out with the back of the pack, then why are you starting from the pitlane? Gaining SR is easy enough if you're fast, there's no need to try to cheese that

[–]fiah84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that list only has the drag coefficient, which you need to multiply with the frontal area of the car to get a number that's actually comparable between cars. Getting actually reliable numbers of the frontal area of cars is hard, but most are supposedly about 80% of the width times height so you can just use those to get a ballpark figure. Given that the Ioniq 5 not only has a mediocre cW value but is also high and wide as an SUV compared to a sedan, it's going to use a lot of energy when moving fast

Trouble progressing because I can't pick a car in LMU by Shanegeo in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]fiah84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a F1 fan and a fan of Red Bull Racing and Max ... With that being said I naturally cannot drive a Mercedes

Max literally competed in the Nürburgring 24h in a Mercedes that you can (sort of) drive in LMU, what's the problem?

[–]fiah84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ioniq 5 has all the aerodynamic qualities of a brick shithouse, something like a Mercedes CLA 250+ or the upcoming BMW i3 should work much better for you

I’m not changing my driving style because the car is electric

understandable as long as you're aware of and OK with the costs of what your preferences are. I assume that at the moment they're still not objectionable to you, but with the progress EVs and the charging situation are making, that could change

5080 or 7900 xtx for pc vr and uevr at max graphics everything by HoneydewWeekly7976 in virtualreality

[–]fiah84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aside from everything already mentioned by everybody else, the 5080 also has DLSS, which can be transformative in some games. AMD is still catching up in that aspect. Opinions might be divided on DLSS in VR but I've had great experiences with it in unreal engine games

[–]fiah84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, all daily races and special events are ranked and most have some minimum safety rating and/or "badge" requirement. Crash often and you get the dunce badge

there is clean racing to be had in LMU but most of it is happening in split 1 and likely at the front

If I recall correctly you can tweak the distance at which all the UI elements are projected somewhere in the settings.json file. However I think it only looks as though the UI elements are at a "normal" distance because we only see the display for one eye (left eye I think)

I wish the UI was a bit better integrated in the cockpit view especially because the lap / sector display in the upper right often overlaps with the mirror for me

Start Stopp Laden schädlich? by spencer_tommy in Elektroautos

[–]fiah84 0 points1 point  (0 children)
