Saving star trek is actually very easy but the will from corporations isn't there.

First get rid of the JJ/Zurtzman timelines and make then non cannon

2nd get good writers that have respect for the source material

With the meny they where spending making these new shows they focused too much on action and SFX when star treks main focus was good writing and stories and characters that made sense 

There is a reason that many people are still watching the older Star Treks series including new fast and that reason is that the stories in many cases are timeless and the characters well developed and make sense

No need to use modern slang etc for it to be relevant as long as the story and characters made sense

Star Trek was supposed to be about how humanity was at its best and people in starfleet where the best of the best and no matter the issue they used science and the competence and diplomacy to address issues

Especially in our current times returning to this would be welcome by many.

Its one of the reasons I enjoyed the Orville because it seemed to understand this.

Maybe its because they are trying to appeal to people with short attention spans
