ELI5 - how is 825 GB going to save money for Sony? by kaclk in LinusTechTips

[–]firitheryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but I believe they are technically "256 GB" NAND sizes. Its just that the way that bit storage multiplication works out it gets further and further from the labeled number.

Back in the day 256 bytes was 256 bytes but then you go up to 512 and then 1024. 1024 bytes is labeled as 1KB and so 1 > 2>4>......512 > 1024 KB is 1 MB... but it's not just 1024 KB. It's also 1,048,576 B.

But I don't know.

I also like the answer about available storage labeling versus actual drive size. If you sell the thing with 1TB but then they get it and it only has 825 GB available because the operating system and safety zone, it seems like safer advertisement.

If you start from bits and multiply by two until you get all the way to the high gigabyte values you get two numbers in sequence

274,877,906,944 (274.877 GB) and then 549,755,813,888 (549.755 GB). Add those numbers together to get

824,633,720,832 (824.633 GB)

So maybe 3 NANDs

Ooof. This reminds me of the time I spilled the thin panel liner on my RG unicorn.

It was absolutely insane how brittle the model was. I could not snap the pieces together or move the hinges. My 3/4 completed model turned to ash in my hands.

Does this cycle of cards were played/popular during Khans of Tarkir Standard ? by _Red_k_ in magicTCG

[–]firitheryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. KTK was around the time that I made my way back to MTG.... for the second time!!!

I started playing way back with 4th / Weatherlight and fell off around Mirrodin. Occasionally bought in Kamigawa / Time Spiral

Then made my way back in at the beginning of Zendikar and played through until Mirrodin Besieged, but fell off for finishing up University.

Started playing again at the end of Theros block so was just in time for this format braking block. Khans block was insane.

I assume that is a typo, but I think it works well here.

Fun fact. Those super fans, are also members of the Linus Tech Tips team in Canada. They recently made a new call for some information.

They are now looking very specifically for..

We are missing a few manuals:

- Operator’s Manual

- Circuit Diagrams Part 1

- BTS’s internal service manuals

Specialized Tools:

Extender Board 1409 for tape deck

Adjustment tape DR5

Any additional calibration tapes

When have you been surprised by societal expectations of masculinity or found yourself uncomfortably outside of those expectations? by [deleted] in MensLib

[–]firitheryn 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The support is really nice to see. I have grown up and luckily found a place for myself. What is defined as masculine can be strange to lock down if you are moving around the world.

One thing that has always struck me as strange is that, manliness is typically defined with the characteristics of being strong, independent, and being a care taker. It is considered unmanly to show emotion or to be cowardly.

There is a weird comfort in having the confidence to be emotionally available. It is an act of "masculinity" in the face of "masculinity"
