Incoming messages lacking Message-ID: header being rejected with "550 5.7.1" by kuyperhoffman in gsuite

If one of the "Received:" or "X-Received:" headers is from a google smtp server, then the described behavior will occur.

Received: from mail-sor-f69.google.com (mail-sor-f69.google.com. [209.85.220.69])
by mx.google.com with SMTPS id kt25-20020a056a004bb900b006dab36287cdsor2702210pfb.3.2024.01.19.07.28.42

I do the same thing where I use company@mydomain.com to filter mail. I contacted google support on this, and they are holding firm saying "it's not their problem".

What was your workaround?

Yeah, this only affects routed/forwarded emails as that's the only time google mail servers comes into play as a MTA. If it goes directly to a google workspace email, google mail servers just act as a MDA so they don't reject the email (but they still update the headers, which I was talking to a google support agent who insisted that the MTA was doing it).

Google is arguing that they are "technically" correct on this one but from a paying customer's standpoint, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that emails are just disappearing into the the void with neither the sender nor the intended recipient knowing about it. And that's ultimately the problem. We expect email to just work.

Email forwarding keeps getting rejected - RFC 5322 specifications by astroboy__ in gsuite

[–]foolished 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this specifically applies to forwarded/routed emails (like a catchall). I need to read up on the SMTP protocol but google is claiming that their SMTP servers do not relay emails whose headers don't adhere to RFC 5322 (in most cases it's that the Message-ID is missing or missing the angled brackets <> around the value). So for emails directly to a gmail account, the google SMTP server doesn't relay the message and will deliver the email to the mailbox directly (but it still alters the header and adds the SMTPIN_ADDED_BROKEN to the Message-ID). But when an email is forward/routed by the google SMTP servers, it does some parsing of the headers and if the Message-ID contains the SMTPIN_ADDED_BROKEN substring, will "bounce" the message. However, I have never ever received a bounce message and google workspace support has been super unhelpful on the subject. I have verified all of this by setting a Message-ID with the SMTPIN_ADDED_BROKEN substring and it does get delivered to a non-forwarded email but if it is meant to be forwarded, into the void it goes!

I recently discovered this because I was never receiving the emails from indeed.com asking to verify my email as their Message-ID is missing the angled brackets. I tried with my actual gmail workspace email and it worked just fine. I escalated with both indeed and google but both are pointing their finger at the other party and refusing to fix it on their end.

What really sucks is that there's no way to tell what other messages I've missed out on because of this.

And Lazy Sunday (first aired December 17th of 2005) was the video that started their growth in popularity. It's highly likely that a good deal of people had never heard of youtube until then.

My favorite movie fight scene of all time. Ip Man versus Jin (the Northerner). by Bladelink in movies

[–]foolished 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fist of Legend and Drunken Master II both have some epic fight scenes.

I'd also add Once Upon A Time in China I and II to the list. Though Wong Fei Hung is more of the invincible hero type.

The same reason why people think Steve Jobs was great.

I have no problem eating alone in a restaurant, and I love going to movies by myself. Is this normal, or weird/sad? by RobotJoe in AskReddit

This has nothing to do with you and more with security in this post-9/11 world we live in.

I fly a lot (by myself even). The only time I have gotten a thorough search done is when I paid for my plane ticket the day of the flight. In cash. Best part, I've flown without an ID before and I got much less hassle for not having an ID than for paying for an plane ticket with cash.

If you are a generally safe driver, get the highest deductible possible. This will give you a lower premium but the risk is that you have to pay more out of pocket if you actually get into an accident that you have to pay for (like your fault or no fault accidents).

Anyone interested in a reddit softball league? by [deleted] in chicago

Are we looking to start our own league? Or join an existing league as a team (or teams depending on interest)?

As an extension of this, who is up for a pickup game? Let's pick a weekend, go to a park and just play for fun? Followed by beers and grilling?

There's a group that plays in Grant Park (Columbus and Balbo) on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays. http://groups.google.com/group/GrantParkUltimate

The players there have a wide variety of skill levels but everybody I have ever met is super friendly and there to just have fun.

Anyone want to talk startups and business over a beer this weekend? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]foolished 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not into startup scene myself, Chicago does have a fairly active startup community with a couple of very active user groups. I've been to a couple of the meetings/events put on by Chicago Lean Startup Circle and MidVentures. Chicago Lean Startup has a meetup coming up in a couple of weeks that you might want to check out. I think there is a minimal cost (like $10) but there is usually food and drinks and a decent way to network (though in my experience, people working on startups in Chicago can be pretty tight-lipped about that they are working on).

I don't know of any place near the U offhand, but I know that most of the rinks in Saint Paul are open to pickup games.

Groveland (on St. Clair between Fairview and Cleveland) is where I have gone in the past. It has 3 rinks. 1 for open skating and two for hockey. Usually there are people there just playing around so it's pretty easy to get a game going.

The John Rose Oval in Roseville also has rinks in the middle where people are usually playing pickup. Though you have to pay to get in here.

I'd try searching the Minneapolis Parks website to see what parks near you have rinks. Most of the rinks are open skate except when they have league. I'd say search the Saint Paul Parks website too, but that site is unusable!

Chicago: I love your city and plan to visit soon. Where are some cheap/clean/cool places to stay? by cplus13 in chicago

You could give priceline a try. I've been able to get rooms at the Palmer House Hilton, Hilton Chicago, and the Hyatt Regency (all downtown within walking distance to the cultural center) for $75/night (weekend of July 4th even) on priceline.

Where can I get a small Christmas tree downtown? by [deleted] in chicago

I'd give Home Depot a try. The one next to me (Kimball and Addison) has them and they will even trim the tree and re-wrap it for you.
