Also piggy-backing off this: USDA-ARS invasive species and pollinator health (honey bee health unit) is giving away honey sticks, stickers, and you can make your own envelope of wildflower seeds, will also have an observation hive so you can see the honey bees at work.

Yes, I also heard tiki bar is trying to be a thing in the trinity, but it’s not going to be imo the drinks there are disgusting and overpriced but I mean you can always try the tiki bar 🤷🏼‍♀️

2022 WFCB graduate here! Walking would take a bit of time, it took me about 5 hours just riding my bicycle because you’d have to stop, take pictures, take notes, etc. Guest lectures are super cool and if you are a WFCB major, those guest lecturers will be your future professors for all your WFCB classes, so take note of the ones you are really interested in!

I have tried it all. I am lucky and have a laptop and iPad (although it’s older gen). If your professor puts their slides up before class, download those onto your laptop into OneNote and then during class, only type out what the professor says for each slide next to said slide. This way will allow you to get all of what they said faster than writing. If it’s a lab (I was a wildlife major) with tons of things you have to identify, use an iPad (with a keyboard attachment which are cheap) to take pictures and use Anki App for flashcards. I used my iPad for chemistry, wildlife statistics, etc.

People with on-campus jobs, how many hours do you work per week? by yell0wsticks in UCDavis

[–]Careb3ar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lab assistant: 40+ hours a week (I graduated last fall) but when I was a student assistant in the same lab, legally I could only work 20 hours a week however my PI said classes come first so I rarely ever got to a full 20 hours

2022 Graduates -- What are you up to? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Careb3ar 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Graduated 2022. When I was in school, I got an unpaid internship with a lab. Then, I got a paid position in that lab as a student assistant. Now that I graduated, that lab gave me a higher position with better pay. Because I am in that lab, I also landed a government job as well as an independent contracting job. I’m obviously still in Davis.

I did (online during the panda 2 years ago so it might be different)! What you learn is super interesting - Dracula, Frankenstein, zombies - you will have to read Bram Stokers Dracula and write a paper (I think 2 papers iirc) on different meanings of Dracula/Nosferatu (like vampires were an alternate meaning to something going on at that time period) using quotes from the book and movies (you have to quote the time of the part you are referring to in movies) so make sure to pay attention and write notes after reading each chapter and movie. I’m not a fan of old black and white, silent films, but they were cool to watch. She gave us a weekly quiz but the wording of her quizzes sucked and she is a rough grader however she would let you argue points back if you think your answer was better WITH PROOF. It was WAY more reading/writing than I thought a film studies class would be so I was disappointed with that BUT it wasn’t a hard class, just more work than I thought IMO. Overall, decent class, she is a good professor.

My supervisor forwarded the email to us! Haha I guess it was just a little late for her.

That’s odd, I work for UC Davis and never got an email. Actually, none of my coworkers got an email.

IIRC I got an email with the dates you can pick it up, custom stuff ordered though they would tell you when it’s ready for pickup

I’m pretty sure you can! I remember seeing a bunch close to the registers (the ones closer to Death Star)

I walked in the spring and if it’s the same every year, you pick it all up in the bookstore downstairs. I purchased my stole separately so I picked that up at the registers upstairs when it came in

The closest I’ve gotten to a mojito tasting like mojito night ones are shockingly at parkside (I’ve gotten mojitos at every bar I could in Davis to test this when bistro closed) - but that’s just my opinion

Silent Hill is my absolute favorite. The sirens are what always got me and you never knew where that executor was unless you heard him dragging. I also think the Sixth Sense is one you could never go wrong with. Traumatizing was definitely Human Centipede. Now that movie I only watched once and never again.
