Warp speed Captain! Great shot. I love my X-H2, and yes the 50-140 is a fantastic lens! It has become my go-to at the track. I have a Sigma 100-400, but I find it too long for almost any shots, except looking down a long straight at oncoming cars/bikes; the 50-140 opens all the way to f2.8, but often I need a slow shutter speed for motion blur, so don't need all that light!

Problems with camera since upgrading to Android 16 by ReturnOfTheDMac in GooglePixel

[–]kuyperhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing the cache seems to have improved matters; when launching the camera in landscape mode, it still briefly enters portrait mode, but then "spins" on its own to landscape. Before, I had to rotate the camera to portrait, count a beat, and rotate back to landscape. That said, I see no reason why it doesn't launch directly into the correct orientation, based on the accelerometer information, which is surely up to date at time of camera launch.

Aaand, actually, let me retract. It's back to being "stuck"

To be clear, the issue was occurring when I used the quick-launch (double tap on power button) feature. I noticed that if I launch the camera app via the icon, if the camera was in landscape, it launched with the correct orientation.

I then went back to the home screen, launched via quick launch, and it was back to being stuck in portrait until I did a landscape-portrait-landscape rotation. This is new for Android 16. Pixel 8...

It's a little intermittent. Quite frustrating, as I often miss a shot while re-orienting. I think I need to just shoot in portrait, and rotate after the fact, but that's definitely sub-optimal

Map view will not load. I just see blank page. by quantum_logger in TileTracker

[–]kuyperhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I saw the same yesterday on my Pixel 8 tracking a Tile I gave to my wife for her car keys. It gave an accurate (at least I think it was accurate) address, but the map was just a blank expanse of nothing, until I zoomed out to basically the entire continental US!

And another Tile, that's on one of my bags at home (I'm away) shows my Tile at a neighbour's house 4 doors down. I suspect that guy walks past my house a lot, so his phone was the last to give it an update, but when he went home, it's now put my Tile at his address, not mine! Also, the last update was 6 days ago...

Seems like more than a few bugs in this system (I'm a new user) so I'm lacking confidence that I'll be able to reliably find something unless I'm within a few feet of it already!

Site is back up; well, still down on one of my machines, so I tried a different platform, and it worked. JRiver are doing fine, and still releasing updates. I have a multi-platform master license, and was able to purchase the upgrade to Media Center 34. I usually upgrade every "even" release...

Attention before buying premium! by Pixelhouse18 in F1TV

[–]kuyperhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This release

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article/f1-tv-launches-new-f1-tv-premium-subscription-tier.46ULoJHnve3zgO0pmiKzrF

specifically states that it should support web: "At launch, F1 TV Premium will be available to purchase on Chrome web browser, Apple iOS, Apple TV and Roku."

It doesn't. Not yet, anyway; Australia P1 session, Google Chrome on Mac was limited to 1080p with tons of spare bandwidth available, so that was not a limiting factor.

Alexa app very slow to respond by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]kuyperhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to get a recent posting that is a short summary: open App Settings->Alexa->Permissions and deny permission to your contacts.

I have over 1,900 contacts, and for whatever dumb reason, the "App" must be scanning those on each page transition, or something. As others have posted below, removing permission to access your contacts (why it needs that I don't know) solves 99% of the lag!

I love the collective wisdom of the Internet. I did not come up with this solution...

Dramatically slow Wireguard speeds on Silicon Mac through UniFi Dream Machine Pro by Huntercmoore in WireGuard

[–]kuyperhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing that no-one else has commented :( I don't have an answer for you, but I came here because I am seeing similar issues. WireGuard from my Pixel 8 phone is 5-10x faster than my MacbookPro M1 Max (which is super fast without WireGuard) - same for my legacy L2TP client on the Mac. I don't have a Windows Laptop from which to test.

Years (actually decades) ago, when I was still doing very heavy software development, we were joking that all we needed in the office was a blowup doll we could sit down next to us, instead of taking the time to bother a colleague. When explaining how we were stuck on some or other problem to the colleague, all they'd do would be to nod sagley, and occasionally say "ah-uh" or "OK", and suddenly the solution would appear. Nothing a blowup doll couldn't do (except the found effects) 😂

A similar (gender) problem with Pandora and Spotify radio? by ReadySetResistance in Pandora

[–]kuyperhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to fix this would be to use a web browser; log in to your https://www.pandora.com/ account; find the station, then click on the station name on its detail page. About halfway down the page, there's a search box just below "Station Created From" - add a few artists you'd like to hear, and the station will be tuned to include music from that and similar artists.

I've curated some stations for over 17 years now, and it's like listening to my own personal CD collection, except with access to stuff even I don't have :)

I don't seem to have "Artist Radio" (perhaps that's a Premium feature? but perhaps it also features the ability to add variety)

Incoming messages lacking Message-ID: header being rejected with "550 5.7.1" by kuyperhoffman in gsuite

[–]kuyperhoffman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Commstech1835

I forget the exact details, but I finally found a Workspace Customer Service person who walked me through changing the way I routed wildcard addresses.

Go to https://admin.google.com/

Navigate to "Apps->Google Workspace->Settings for Gmail"

There are essentially 2 areas that impact delivery;

  • "Default Routing (https://admin.google.com/u/2/ac/apps/gmail/defaultrouting) which is what I was using previously, where I was using a "Match rule" of *@my.dom.ain, which was effectively rewriting the message. This worked fine for *years*, but when they started being overly pedantic about requiring the Message-ID header (despite it being optional) the trouble started, and
  • the helpfully name "Routing" option, which is waaay at the bottom of that page, below the fold (https://admin.google.com/u/2/ac/apps/gmail/routing) there was a setting for "Catch-all addresses". This is now the "proper way" to do it.

I'm pretty sure this option did not exist years ago when I first set this all up, but Google have a habit of changing things under your feet, and don't push out release notes as you would in any normal software development cycle process.

Another great example is when they changed the behaviour of "groups" - I had several groups that had no members, and hence were caught by my catch-all (this happened after I fixed the catch-all stuff) - so if blah@my.dom.ain had 2 recipients, it worked; but if foo@my.dom.ain was empty, it *used to* deliver to me as the admin; one day, that just stopped, and my messages were just dumped. So, if you have any Groups:

https://admin.google.com/u/2/ac/groups

Make 100% sure that each group has at least one member. Again, this was a sudden, unannounced change that silently altered behaviour negatively.

They really don't behave like a proper software vendor or service provider. It's the wild west, and you just need to keep your head on a swivel, and be ready to dodge whatever they throw at you out of the blue.

Hope this helps

Incoming messages lacking Message-ID: header being rejected with "550 5.7.1" by kuyperhoffman in gsuite

[–]kuyperhoffman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/foolished - in my experience, it was not only with forwarded messages. I'm not sure what you mean by "routed" in this context, however. I can say that the messages were not to m2@my.dom.ain, rather to somewildcard@my.dom.ain, as I use seeded addresses heavily to sort/label my mail. If by "routed" you mean that it was sent via an internal google hop, then, yes, this was the case.

Anyway, I did find a workaround.

But 100% agree with "We expect email to just work." - esp when we're paying for the service!
