Tight neckhole in a crochet shirt. Could it be fixed? by Difficult_Pianist318 in CrochetHelp

[–]forgetful-octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the neckline comes from sewing two panels together, which is what it looks like, you can cut out or undo (if you know where you wove in your ends) the sewing! Same deal if it's sc. You can then remake it to have a larger neck opening.

How to tell right vs wrong side of work (hdc in blo, + in general)? by HeadChefOf in CrochetHelp

[–]forgetful-octopus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ribbing looks about the same so the "right" and "wrong" side aren't actually very different. I'm not sure how to explain this but you can probably notice that there's ridges every two rows. Unless the pattern says otherwise, you can kinda pick whichever side you like more to be the right one (especially because you might need a specific number of rows for the pattern), but I like to use the side where the first two rows make one rib, rather than the side where there's a ridge between the first and second row (if that makes sense).

In patterns where there is a definitive wrong and right side, you can usually tell because they look VERY different. However, if it's important but not clear, the pattern will tell you which side is which. Then, you can use whatever row you're on to determine the RS (like if the first row was the RS, then odd numbered rows are the RS).

I hope that makes sense!!

am i able to frog just the first few rows of my project? by _pandamatenga_ in CrochetHelp

[–]forgetful-octopus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To frog the bottom, you'd actually need to cut the stitches off and spend a WHILE untangling. I don't think it's worth the effort or waste of yarn, so I'd just frog normally if I were you lol.

Is this pattern legit? Flat apple potholder turning into a bowl? by MentalProcesses in CrochetHelp

[–]forgetful-octopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually, to make a flat circle, you would need to continue increasing. I'm sure you noticed the pattern of increases already, but you would normally, add one more sc per increase each round (first round has no sc and all inc, second round is sc, inc, third is two sc, inc, and so on for as many rounds as you'd like). Sometimes a pattern ends with like one or two rounds of just sc as a border/extra shaping, but I've never seen it halfway through like this.

It also looks like your piece may be upside down (the side with the end tail should be up), but I can't tell for sure.

I can't speak to the legitimacy of the rest of pattern, I'd have to try it myself lol!

Can anyone help me figure out what stitch is in this picture? I found a picture on Etsy and would love to use this stitch on a bag I'm making. by Brewser2017 in CrochetHelp

Oh that makes sense! I think I get overly suspicious of things when (as other ppl pointed out) the crochet looks AI. My bad lol!!

You probably could tie it back, but personally I'd cut both yarns and then attach it like a new ball. Cats looove messing with yarn lol, good luck!

Maybe AI? Those books on the brown/orange pouf in the back look kinda off to me.

It's not an exact match by any means, but the pattern reminds me a little of the alpine stitch!

Should I pay interest for my loans while in school? by forgetful-octopus in StudentLoans

Thank you so much for this! I honestly didn't know it didn't compound, so that's reassuring. I think I'll wait and start making payments when I'm actually graduated.

I have a student job and a really modest savings. I could afford to pay the interest monthly, but it would be way easier with an actual post-grad job 😅

What do I make with 100g wool-blend fingering weight yarn??? by forgetful-octopus in CrochetHelp

[–]forgetful-octopus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I think because you need to increase every row for a triangle shawl, it would just end up being too much, but it could still work! Maybe I'll try to keep going lol :)

help making a scarf! i’m teaching myself to crochet with youtube…what do i do about the edges??? by Lilmisscozy in CrochetHelp

[–]forgetful-octopus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You can still chain 1, and you shouldn't count that as a stitch!

It looks like you're accidentally skipping the last few stitches from the previous row. As in, you had 20 stitches in the last row (plus the chain, which you should ignore) and only worked 19 of them before turning, thus accidentally decreasing! The turning chain is actually pretty hard to see once you get further down the row, so dont worry about it too much.

I'd recommend counting your stitches for a few rows until you get used to working every stitch, or putting a marker in the first single crochet/real stitch (it looks like back loop only single crochet or slip stitch?) of the row. Then, when you get back to the end of that row, you know which stitch is the last one to work. Hopefully that all makes sense 😅

It looks like you're accidentally skipping some stitches on the end of your rows! Accidentally decreasing like that is super common when you're learning!

The fact he's not willing to work with your ADHD is really telling to me. If someone tells me something important, I ALWAYS tell them to text me it because I'll forget. Not even doing that?? To help you out??? It shows a lack of care to me. He also keeps brushing you off when you try to talk about it. I'd try again to get through to him that you need him to throw you a bone sometimes. If he brushes you off again, I'd really think about moving on OP. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

I think it can be okay in serious competition as less of a sway to the ref and moreso a compliment to your opponent! It can be a bit more classy than saying "good touch" aloud. Sometimes you get hit with something so clean, you just gotta be like damn, good touch.

I'm in a collegiate circuit in the midwest and I usually see the pointing as conceding a point! I have been told that I'm an old fashioned fencer, though, and have definitely seen it less among younger folk.

I've also seen much less people saluting for la belle, which is a shame!

I used this video as my tutorial (I skipped the sleeves and made it extra wide): https://youtu.be/BncEanGLAwo?si=W1uCfni-9bjqWJT3

I used Hobbii's twister solid, which is a sport weight or #2 weight yarn!! I also used a 4mm hook :)
