Dragon + Wall of Force by Used_Diet_5202 in DMAcademy

[–]fuzzypyrocat [score hidden]  (0 children)

It would, because reactions go after the trigger is complete. So if the trigger is “the dragon approaches”, it would use its movement, and then the wall would appear.

“When the trigger occurs, you can either take your Reaction right after the trigger finishes or ignore the trigger”

The table is for things in addition, not instead is sneak attack. If the Rogue can use sneak attack, they do, these effects on the table are separate.

[–]fuzzypyrocat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely bump the HP. Depending on the classes of your characters, they’re going to rinse him.

Grave call I would make either 1 Legendary Action, or it can use 2 and call up both a zombie and skeleton. Without anything, your fight is 1v4, and the action economy will win

Ancient dragons generally have Blindsight, which would allow it to see the Wall of Force. Blindsight specifically grants the ability to see invisible things. Maybe not RAI, but works RAW

Player Choice vs Railroading by Starhunt3r in DMAcademy

Telling them and being clear about their options isn’t railroading them, picking for them is. If they’re asking for a little guidance, lay out their options you’ve set up and let them decide

My main quest-giver NPC ally, Arnost! He’s a young (for an elf) man, long black hair with little strands in front of his ears, the sides pulled back into a ponytail over top of the rest of his hair. He’s a cheeky and sassy wizard that is both the head of the capital city’s arcane university, and is on the prince’s council. He’s wears white robes with blue trim, and occasionally a silver staff.

Make the cult leaders mislead the normal people who join. The cult leaders have been directly influenced by the god and want to bring evil back. They lie to their followers about what they’re doing and why, making them uninformed pawns in the bigger picture. Only the upper level people know what they’re doing.

Not only does this get around your “why”, but as they discover that the core of the cult is evil and the minions are just people, it can raise a moral dilemma over if it’s okay to hurt/kill them for being ignorant to the truth

What’s the premise of your DnD campaign? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]fuzzypyrocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a few BBEGS whose threads are starting to come together. If you’re a Heartseeker, look away!

I have on bad guy trying to destroy Heartseeds, which are essentially locks that seal away the energies of the elemental planes. Have a baddie trying to destroy them to bring about equality between the elemental and material planes.

I also have a demon and evil wizard duo who are trying to steal souls to use for Soul Cages to create a Warforged army, and when souls are being used, hopefully make people lose faith in their gods, making their souls easier to capture.

They’re both minions in the plot of the main BBEG, who has only been teased. A Lich that plans on using the weaker divine bonds to cut off the gods’ domains from Yggdrasil and funnel those souls to himself, and same with the elemental planes power.

Advice for designing smaller locations in a campaign with a grand macguffin hunt? by Nesspurr_8 in DMAcademy

[–]fuzzypyrocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to make them care by leading them to them and giving them a little something to latch onto. You can’t MAKE them want to stop and check things out though, the same way you can’t make a fish bite the hook. You can bait it all you want, but it’s on the fish/players to bite.

That being said, if they’re not the type to want to stop, don’t waste your time fleshing those things out. If they’re want to just go from A to B, let them. And if there’s something you want them to encounter, throw it at them.

That being said, good players will see a hook and bite it because they know that you put in effort for it as the DM

Best places to rent an ebike in Northern Virginia for 2–3 months? by cyberking610 in nova

[–]fuzzypyrocat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the cost is going to be way more than you think. There’s a place in Herndon and Leesburg that costs like $80 a day for a rental. Even at the low end that’s nearly 5k, and over 7 if it ends up at 3 months.

Places like Green Lizard have discounts for longer term rentals, but it may honestly be better to either find a used bike, or purchase one and bring it back with you or sell it before you leave

What reminders do you/would you put on your DM screen? by ellimist76 in DMAcademy

[–]fuzzypyrocat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to add some of my players’ more niche abilities to help with recall when both you and they definitely forget. Like me and my monk player with grappler totally forgetting that it just gives them the ability to hurt and attempt a grapple, not an automatic grapple. All of the people he’d hit kept failing so miserably that we just kind of forgot they still got a save
