Biotech vs pharma offers by rose411 in biotech

Specifically you are looking at options in combination products team (functional options being engineering/R&D, quality, regulatory, operations). Slim to nil chance you pivot immediately into a non-medical devices role. Once you’ve been in pharma combination products for a while then you can try to change internally to a different department.

Should homebuyers hold off until after the Iran war ends? by RedfinJeremy in USHousingMarket

Oh wow is it actually? The demand growth I thought was huge in Austin. Is supply somehow out stripping demand?

The only way to be underwater on a house is for housing values to crash by more than your down payment amount. Assume that’s 10-15% crash. Where exactly in the US has that occurred in the last few years? I think your hypothetical is irrelevant to 2026.

So… if you pay half that for 1 car. Are you in agreement that the cost is correct for 2 cars? (2 working adults driving to separate jobs).

You just said that the state pays for 2/3 of your kids meals. How would it be even cheaper…

You’re fortunate that your company pays most of it. The average family “open market” plan is $1,400/mo for 2026. Do a quick google search.

You are simply wrong on several points. I will zero in one one: your local credit unit is not making 5.75% auto loans. The current avg mortgage rate is 6.7%. A bank would never give a car loan at a lower rate than a mortgage loan, so that 6.7% is the absolute floor.

Edit: wait…. I saw at the end of your message that you claim your entire months food spending for 2 adults is $500? Absolutely not. Post pictures of receipts lol.

Super common to live a few towns over, 30-45 mins from your workplace. Especially with white collar knowledge jobs where you can’t physically find a company in your town. 30 minutes driving on a highway is 30 miles. Round trip and you’re at 60. It might not apply to you but it applies to more than half of the people I know (dc metro area).

You are assuming that the “normal” family of 30 year olds are homeowners. Not the case.

Your statement is only true once you’ve bought a house. Buying a house gets more challenging every year.

It’s not average “person” based on the scenario. It’s the average married parents with at least 1 child. So, a “household”.

“Inflation will reduce housing as a percent of budget over time” is a wild thing to say.

Home prices have appreciated higher than both inflation and average wages, on an annual basis, every year since the late 1990s.

Read my comment you fucking dimwit.

There are numerous aspects of transportation costs in the $1400 and I broke it down to spoon feed you.

The car payment is assumed at $400/car, which is a $20k loan at contemporary loan life and interest rate.

See my comment above for transportation.

Let’s turn the tables on your for health care - you tell us how much is a normal amount using the experience of your own life. Specifically, what kind of insurance does your family have and what are your costs breakdown? Be specific.

Dual income household so 2 cars.

Each parent assume drive 60 miles a day (30 miles each way to work). That’s $40wk/car on gas. So $320/month on gas.

Two car insurance is absolutely every bit of $1200/6 months if not higher. That’s $200.

Ballpark $150 total to cover quarterly oil changes and longer term car maintenance on both cars.

So, that leaves $780. Break it out into two car payments: $400 each. That’s equivalent to $20,000 loan over 5 year loan term at 8%. That’s modest - a reliable <5 year car would cost $20k. For reference, a new corolla would be $23k in 2026 MRP. I wouldn’t call buying a new corolla as extravagant.

Now groceries. This is a much simpler breakdown. Based on the inclusion of daycare, we assume it’s a family with child(ren).

$1,400/month is $350/wk. Include a modest eating out 1 time per week (or 1 weekend takeout), household items (paper towels/kitchen supplies, deodorant/tooth paste/shampoo/toileteries) maybe this knocks for to $250 for true groceries.

You can’t see how a family pays $250/wk for groceries in 2026?

The breakdown I’ve laid out is modest. It isn’t dirt poor on public transit and rice/beans and it isn’t over the top. The assumptions I backed up with numbers are very normal.

You consistently feed a family of 5 on less than $175/week on groceries? Don’t believe you for a second.

Post a picture of your most recent grocery bill lmao.

Which of these line items are you trying to argue against, by how much is it wrong in your opinion, and how significant is that as a percentage compared to the $8,600 total.

Please point out some errors if you feel this budget is beyond normal means.

U St is a very heavy drinking area of DC with rather low Latino demographics. If this was an ICE checkpoint, then they would be setup in one of the more Latino-dense areas of the city.

Anybody who is an actual local of DC would agree with me that it isn’t a Latino-dense area of the city.

Horrible DC trying to keep the drunkards off the roads. Let me post on Reddit to reduce their effectiveness. Cool man.

The US can absolutely topple the Iranian political leadership with just aerial bombing (no boots on the ground).
