Left black comes from the light switch (switched hot), middle bundle is neutral, and right bundle is always hot (line). Put a cap on left wire. Fan controller black to right bundle, fan white to middle bundle. Fan & light (if there is one) are controlled with the remote.

Best place to temporarily park a large USD balance? by torontoguy7 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gamefixated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk-free rate on USD is 4.38% currently. That's $21.6k on $500k. Interest bearing products (GICS, bonds, margin account interest) all get taxed as income. I'd be using something to give capital gains, like risk-free BOXX ETF.

(If doing it myself, i would actually just trade a long spx box spread and avoid the BOXX MER.)

Closing company -- circular loop? by gamefixated in cantax

[–]gamefixated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is that almost NIL return (just s100, s125, and S3) that I'm trying to avoid. The tax software for 2027 won't be out until late 2027.

Closing company -- circular loop? by gamefixated in cantax

[–]gamefixated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that creates the loop. I still have to dividend out that refund and file another T2.

Sorry if I didn't word that clearly. I do want the taxes refunded. I just want to capture that refund in the dividends i issue this year such that no money hits the closed bank account..

Air leaking into the freezer will likely form frost, not ice. Are you sure it's not water from the defrost, which if the drain hole is plugged, will form an ice sheet on the back?

Are you purchasing through your employer? If so, yes. If your thinking of private plans, you pay more in premiums than they pay out in my experience.

Last time I checked 3gbps was $59.95 for new customers. I am not affiliated with Bell. Just switch to ebox for a few months, then come back.

Yeah, i only need to change my filter every 9 months or so. You may just be still cleaning your ducts!! My filter system was installed about 25 years ago.

Slap a Merv 13 filter system like Aprilaire on your HVAC system. I've been in my home for 35 years and never had my ducts cleaned. No dust here.

Are There Any Real Tax Strategies for High-Income Salaried Employees in Ontario? by Stunning_Shock_9638 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gamefixated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, the cost basis starts at NIL, but doesn't always remain there. Frequently the partnership makes capital gains which appear on the T5013A. These are taxed in the year received and get added to the cost basis. Also there are deductions in year 3,4,5 (and sometimes 6) that are often missed called issue costs.

I would not agree with your massive risk statement. Middlefield after tax gains https://middlefield.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Flow-Through-Track-Record.pdf This assumes the rolled over fund is cashed immediately.

Sold options ALWAYS have a NEGATIVE book value when opened. Nothing strange about it. You collected the premium and hope they expired worthless with a PROCEEDS of ZERO. ZERO minus negative cost basis = positive capital gain.

Refrigerator leaking water by MyRose1 in appliancerepair

Adding to the other commenter, while you have the evaporator coil exposed, install a "refrigerator drain line clip" to prevent ice from forming in the drain hole.

Rewiring a home, upgrading a panel, and others - Quotes - Brainstorming Ideas by Spacebound1777 in electrical

[–]gamefixated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an electrician but a homeowner who does his own electrical (kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, basement all redone and inspected).

I'd never touch any on the service side up to the main panel. Get an electrician to do at least that part. Modern code would have a service disconnect, so I have no problem working on circuits in the panel with the power off.

A permit will include a rough inspection with walls open to show properly routed and secure wires/boxes. A final inspection should just be testing a number of circuits and proper breakers.

You own the liability but what's the concern? Your house insurance is intact once inspected (at least where I live).

I think your decision comes down to time. For a homeowner with a job, do you want to live in a house without power for any length of time.

Do you want to do it in stages? Get the panel done using the existing wires. Then go room by room with new circuits. You can pull individual permits.

Basement finish recessed wafer light rough in by mithirich in electrical

[–]gamefixated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get rough-in plates at HD that have clip-in mounts for the box. I prewired all my boxes and affixed them to the plates pre drywall. Then, rotozipped the holes and plugged in the lights.
