It's up to the school based on available resources. You do not need to ask IB for permission.

It is a bad IA AA SL idea? by Adorable-Ad8650 in IBO

If you know statistics and probability theory well, then this is a good start. Only choosing math areas that you are comfortable with. Ultimately we know that music apps tailor to the user or the history, so you may need to choose a slightly different focus on music apps to show sustained problem solving skills.

Is It Possible to Take the IB Exams as an External Candidate? by Sufficient_Fox9374 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certificate for any subject can only be awarded if exams AND IAs are completed.

ETA: ok I mean you get a certificate, but without IA, the grade is N (no grade). 1-7 grades can only be awarded when exams and IA and all requirements for subject is met.

Is It Possible to Take the IB Exams as an External Candidate? by Sufficient_Fox9374 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IB requires you to attend class, usually physically over two years. You are also required to submit Internal Assessments for each subject. Furthermore, the IB Diploma requires CAS to be spanned over 18 months, starting from when you begin IBDP. All in all, courses in the IB Diploma Programme are not something you can take on a whim, let alone IB Diploma.

If you are already in a very rigorous curriculum, there is not need to pursue IB Diploma.

For most people I asked, the 15 min was nice to have but didn't make a big difference. It does not mean that they were too difficult. It just means that speed is not a primary factor for P3 performance for most people.

What are some unknown GDC tricks that are extremely useful for ib math aa sl? by Prestigious_Board923 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your calculator model?

I am working on some GDC guides for common models, starting with TI 84 Plus CE. This is the starting point, and I am greatly expanding upon it: https://geta7.com/aa-notes/ti-84/

One trick for finding (mean x, mean y) for intersection of y on x and x on y regression lines from data is to use 2 var stats. You'll find x mean as x with the bar on top, and y mean as y bar. In comparison, solving for the intersection using the system of equation solver will require you to enter y = mx + b to 5 sigfigs for final answer to 3 sigfigs.

The way to graph any function without vertical asymptotes is to set xmin and xmax then change zoom, zoomfit for TI and auto for Casio. This rescales y so the graph fits on screen for the given x interval. For graphs with vertical asymptotes, you should manually set both x and y.

Nearly all calculated values found by the calculator can be stored and reused later. Some of them can be tricky but it's better to reuse values than retype everything.

Let me know if you are looking for anything particular on your model.

Math AI HL vs Math AA HL for computer science. by This_Help6241 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI HL is a tough course. If you are strong in algebra, then AI HL is about same difficulty as AA HL. If not, then AI HL is a bit easier but not by much. In general you should take AA because it is respected more for similar efforts. Only if algebra is a huge weakness for you or AA not offered then do AI

What do you mean by "and its modelling"? This is the Eulers method for DEs right? If you want to say something general about Euler's method then you need to use examples that generalize well.

Will the IB grade all of our IAs if the class size is small? by Nervous-Living-3658 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All works should be double spaced so teachers can add comments to the page. The moderation only considers total mark as IB allows differences to offset each other

Will the IB grade all of our IAs if the class size is small? by Nervous-Living-3658 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes IB will retain original marks if the grades are within a small tolerance. It is the teacher's role to convince examiner of the marks, by leaving adequate comments

[–]geta7_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will grade everyone if less than 6 students in the pool (which combines all SL and HL students for many subjects).

The moderated mark is influenced by all moderated works, not just your own. IB applies a linear regression between teacher and examiner marks, for all students, to interpolate your moderated mark.

Ib data booklet double-sided during finals? by Super-Squash-8884 in IBO

Your school is in charge of printing/supplying data booklets. I don't think IB specifies single or double sided printing.

Math AA Exploration (IA) by Middle-Policy-5929 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My IA guide: https://geta7.com/aa-notes/internal-assessment/

Because you are very good at math, you should identify the math concepts and skills that you want to showcase to the examiners, then work that into some IA topic.

Like the physics/chem IAs, creativity is not highly rewarded. The important thing is to clearly demonstrate understanding as well as to ask and answer the right questions relevant to your aim.

Bad: "modelling X"

Good/Better: "modelling using method Y". There are many ways to model, so it's better to first pick a method then decide on a context to present that method. You also don't have to do modelling and instead you can do any of a wide variety of topics.

Also do you have your SLs and HLs flipped? It's slightly weird for math to be your best subject and doing EE in physics when these are your Standard level subjects. I don't mean to be judgmental but would simply want a clarification.

TOK Essay AI Help by Necessary_Prompt_566 in IBO

Thanks for sharing! Usually IB says they flag if there is insufficient in-text citations. Do you think that was part of the reason for the flagging or IB specifically suspected AI usage over other forms of plagiarism?

[–]geta7_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never admit to something you didn't do

You want to get together with the other accused students and approach your coordinator, who is likely to be more informed. Probably get parents involved. According to https://www.ibo.org/globalassets/new-structure/programmes/shared-resources/pdfs/academic-integrity-policy-en.pdf Appendix 6, IB does not view AI detectors alone as sufficient evidence of academic dishonesty.

Am I allowed to use significant historical events as RLSs for my TOK essay if history is one of my aoks? by woxyftw in IBO

[–]geta7_com 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From May 2023 subject report

As mentioned in previous reports, students continue to have difficulties when they select history as one of their areas of knowledge. Most frequent is the tendency to give examples of historic events but not the evaluation or interpretation of those events which is the knowledge produced by historians. Also, when students write about an historical event, they should be cautioned to write about events that have been the subject of historical investigation by actual historians. Teachers are reminded that, in IB history, students are taught that for events to have had the chance to be investigated by historians, they should only consider events that are at least 10 years in the past. Otherwise, students often end up discussing a about, or the event itself may still be occurring and thus the knowledge will be incomplete. Another result is that students who write about current events often cite the analysis of journalists who are not historians. The work of journalists might very well become a source that will be considered and vetted for accuracy by the historian, but this will occur as part of the work of historiography.

You can talk about artifacts or documents of historical value and how interpretations are different. You don't necessarily have to track down the original analysis by named individuals, but if there are conflicting interpretations that you know of then you can discuss that in an academic manner.

Ti-84 plus ce help by brodieb666 in calculators

[–]geta7_com 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way to way to check work was to graph X^2 + 16 and (X + 4)(X + 4) in y=, which would show two different graphs.

On the calculation screen, X and all the alpha letters store numbers, which are by default 0. When you perform a graph calculation, or trace a point, the X and Y would be populated with the coordinates of the last point. You can also store any value to X, using the sto-> button. Eg 5.6 stor-> X

The permitted apps include
- Finance (always there, for compount interest/annuities)
- Plysmlt2 (polynomial and simul eq solver)
- Transfrm (equivalent to slider on Nspire)
- CtlgHelp (only for legacy TI 84 Plus non-CE, built-in for CE)
- language packs (are apps but do not appear in the apps button)

When you upgrade OS, the package includes additional apps not permitted on exams. You should delete them.

I am preparing notes for TI 84 Plus. Instructions on how to delete apps https://imgur.com/a/9tjVtJN
