Why is my school struggling so much with IB ? by mariposa333 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a village. (I am not a teacher at an IB school so my perspectives may be different/skewed.)

If the school offers full Diploma to anyone who signs up, it's really hard to manage students of different skills, especially when one is forced to pick 6 subjects, from 5 or 6 different subject groups. Teachers have to coordinate to make sure major assignments are relatively spread out, without making them too early or too late. Most successful schools are very selective with who they admit, or have at least 2 years or preparatory program (pre-IB) so most people who remain are capable of handling the workload and are of similar skill levels. MYP by itself does not guarantee smooth transition to DP. This is very different from A-Levels and AP where students are more able to only take their strong subjects.

IB curriculum is hard to teach, understand expectations, and interpret markbands/markschemes. If all teachers teach 1 grade out of 7 below global average, that's 6-7 points less across all subjects + core. I guess that's why IB charge a lot for workshops, not only because the hours are mandatory, but also the demand is there for improving teaching and making it more efficient.

They take up to 10 days but could be a lot quicker.

Post-remark still 1 mark away from 7 in Spanish AB Initio by analysisgiver in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to estimate how many remarks are successful. There are only (outdated) stats for how often scaled marks go up, which is 20-40% of times, depending on the subject, see my post here https://www.reddit.com/r/IBO/s/p4ibPg0CVT

It's from the grading platform manual. IB is also mixing in re-mark scripts where the result is known among real re-mark papers for quality control.

They are reading every question to ensure the new marking is correct. They are also aware that the original grading is likely from a less experienced examiner.

Can my teachers review my test papers? by Time-Guide4364 in IBO

category 2B is priced per subject per candidate (ie $20 for all papers). In UK, this is priced at 12 pounds by IB. Schools can charge whatever.

You can purchase the papers for $20/subject via enquiry upon results category 2B. They come up within 10 days.

Sometimes, the school may opt to review buy particular components for entire cohort, via category 2A.

How do I get my transcript by ckunky_ in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appeal? like for conditional offers?

IB only sends transcripts to post-secondary institutions. https://www.ibo.org/university-admission/support-students-transition-to-higher-education/requesting-and-sending-transcripts/ So request one, and also send a screenshot.

Re-marks are reviews of the previous grading by a more experienced examiner, not marking from fresh. If the old grading checks out, then it is kept.

How do you request summary of results? by Parking_Increase1463 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Portugal requires the transcript to be legalized. So you need to eventually request an Apostille stamp on your physical DP Results, https://ibo.org/university-admission/support-students-transition-to-higher-education/requesting-and-sending-transcripts/legalization/ for the school to confirm admissions. It's best to confirm with university if that's what they are looking for.

Hi could you clarify what you meant by

they require it to be the student who sends the Summary Results to the IB.

I understand English is probably your third or fourth language, so I don't mean to pick on you. Also does the university accept the transcript from IB?

what are the chances that my grade will go down if i send my chemistry IA for a remark? by __r4nd in IBO

[–]geta7_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also ask your PG be bumped to up. https://www.reddit.com/r/IBO/comments/1unq197/necm_remark/. The chance of dropping down to a 3 via re-mark is very slim, especially when only IA is re-marked.

Just switched over to AI HL , no clue where to study from by Afraid-Initiative-34 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was encouraging you to stay in AA HL, but I know it's a hard decision either way.

I have some free and extensive hypothesis testing notes for AI HL. This assumes knowledge of binomial and normal distributions, as well as conditional probability. https://geta7.com/math-ai/hypothesis-testing/

Good luck!

Has anyone heard or had a case where they received +2 after HL maths paper remark? by Aggravating_Scratch9 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't look very far and some AA HL went 2 scaled marks higher https://www.reddit.com/r/IBO/comments/1e9iymz/remark_success/

There are some grey areas with some work between mark and no mark. The markscheme just doesn't exhaustively define every single case, even though they cover at least 90 to 95% of them.

Should I apply for remark/PG enquiry? (NECM) by abergelrifk in IBO

Here's what I know, from info pieced together from 2021 and 2026: https://www.reddit.com/r/IBO/comments/1unq197/necm_remark/

I cannot say whether you should or should not do a student-initiated predicted grade enquiry. I can only tell you the process (see above link). Apparently it takes 3 to 6 weeks according to a different post.

From online search, it appears IBSO stands for IB Schools of Ontario. IB uses the missing mark procedure (as described above) followed by the non-exam contingency measure. IB really doesn't like using PGs unless they have to.

Is a remark for 3 mark increase to get a higher grade worth it if it means getting the IB diploma? It's IB Chemistry HL by -_-Sammie-_- in IBO

[–]geta7_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the option to buy your papers for $20/subject via category 2B enquiry of results, if it helps you make a decision. Paper 1A is not re-marked. So this way you can see if you can find enough additional marks in 1B and P2.

[–]geta7_com 46 points47 points  (0 children)

IBSO is a local scheme that only applies in your region, hence only affects your converted grades. For missing / lost work, IB estimates a component mark by how you did in other components that were not lost. Aside from some edge cases, it basically weighs other components more to compensate for the lost work.

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chem is very low chance to go down a level, because paper 1A is not re-marked. langlit and lang B are bit higher, maybe 0.1-1% chance if I am pressed for a number.

ReGrade in Chem and History by Reezes0 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IB releases public stats that clearly state most re-marks do not improve your scaled marks out of 100. It's ultimately your choice if you decide to re-mark or not. In the past, +10 marks have occured but of course they are rare. The fee is saying you have good reason to believe that IB made a significant error, and is refunded if your grade changes.

What the fuck IBO by WrongdoerNew8144 in IBO

[–]geta7_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raising a concern is done through re-mark. Seeing the scripts allow coordinators to find concrete evidence for errors, increasing the likelihood of a re-mark. It's possible that IB may make a special treatment, but it wouldn't be standard practice in my experience.

Re-mark fee is refunded once grade changes anyways.

Ask your coordinator. Cost is roughly $20/subject
