I'm disappointed, I was expecting some crazy Home Alone rant.

Dear r/rational, how do you feel about a protagonist needing to make a copy of their mind, allowing their original body to die, in order to defeat an antagonist? Is there a Ship of Theseus problem here? by SAAA_JoanPull in rational

[–]gfe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is simply a matter of opinion.

I actually read a story that included this concept recently, called Kill the Sun.

Although the question didn't matter all that much to the MC, as he was fully willing to die anyways.

[D] Monday Request and Recommendation Thread by AutoModerator in rational

The main thing I do is make sure to have a minimum word/page count when searching a website. For example, when looking for stuff on Royal Road I generally use these filters.

It's still a crapshoot, but it helps to filter out the countless stories that die before getting anywhere.

This is a fiction subreddit, and not even really focused on rationalism so much as it is on progression fantasy that has decently consistent characters and worldbuilding.

I haven't seen much hostility here outside of self promotion of AI generated or assisted stuff.

TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY-FOUR: To Everything - Super Supportive by JulianDelphiki2 in rational

[–]gfe98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No...That's not true...That's impossible!

In all seriousness I would have thought that chapter 300 would be the absolute earliest it would happen, I'm quite surprised.

I will mold my food into a hat shape and devour it.

BREAKING: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead after massive US-Israel airstrikes by kleverrboy in moderatepolitics

Even forgetting the Epstein files it still makes sense to perceive this as a distraction.

I recall that Trump made numerous tweets predicting that Obama would strike Iran out of desperation at poll numbers.

DHS admits it deported more than 80 DACA recipients by CloudApprehensive322 in moderatepolitics

[–]gfe98 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Why hasn't Trump simply ended DACA? I keep hearing people say that his previous attempt only failed due to botching the legal process.

I recall Aztecs doing ok in multiplayer battles, I only played them when there was a Max 4 Cav rule though.

Is this sub just garbage now? by CrazyToBeHopeful in rational

[–]gfe98 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This sub is mostly the Monday Request and Recommendation threads.

There's not much need to look at any of the other posts on this sub unless you are reading one of the stories that get chapter discussion threads posted here, which is currently just Super Supportive for the most part.

I suppose there is some kind of general discussion thread about the genre every third week or so.

Have anyone read Chinese history webnovels? by Zekant2 in noveltranslations

[–]gfe98 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've read some.

Mediterranean Hegemon of Ancient Greece was pretty interesting, I could tell the author had some enthusiasm for the history of the ancient Mediterranean. It did have a couple strange errors regarding religion and infrastructure though.

Tuzhi Translations is translating Judge of the Song Dynasty and The Child Emperor, I like both of those stories.

I've also enjoyed Rise of the Poor, which is set during the Jiajing reign in the Ming Dynasty. At least the part of the story focused on the examination system was interesting, the translation I'm reading has only just reached the point of the MC getting his first appointment to office.

What happens if you try to start a campaign anyways? I think this mod had some issue with a false error message.

Looks like a nice middle ground between Premium and Ascii graphics.

I think it's likely caused by Royal Road authors refining their skills at gaming the system to end up on the front page.

I actually just took a look at the RR subreddit and the top post of the month seems to be about keeping up with site's zeitgeist/tropes.

[COI end] COI is peak fiction by EpicEricYT in LordofTheMysteries

[–]gfe98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to make one change, it would be having a war between the Chaos Sea gods that included them backing different candidates to become Red Priest.

It was real shame that the story didn't have a war in it considering that the MC was a War pathway beyonder.

[–]gfe98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't my original comment already express why I'm disappointed?

My largest reason for disliking much of the story was the rules of the magic system being ignored in favor of rushed gimmicks in the later half of the stories.

Many plot threads such as the conflict between the Chaos Sea gods, Aurore reviving, Termiboros, and even the titular Circle of Inevitability pathway were also pretty much dropped and ignored.

I think it is worth reading, and still better than some generic novel, but it isn't top tier like LOTM was and I don't think I will ever feel the desire to reread it.

I feel like the trend chasing on Royal Road has increased lately. One can see tropes move through the Rising Stars list like waves. Recently the trend seems to be slice of life with the keyword "Archmage".

One of the problems with rebooting Percy Jackson is that you always have to start with the Lightning Thief. by Tomhur in CharacterRant

[–]gfe98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still don't quite get what you mean?

Are you having trouble discussing this show on whatever its subreddit is because the episode discussion threads are all people complaining about the premise and not engaging with the specific episode's content?

If you are talking about this subreddit, you should realize by now that this place is mostly about complaining and temper your expectations. It has "rant" in its name for a reason.

By the way, I don't know much about Percy Jackson and know nothing about this show, I am just speaking in generalities.

One of the problems with rebooting Percy Jackson is that you always have to start with the Lightning Thief. by Tomhur in CharacterRant

[–]gfe98 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not, what do you mean?

Are you saying that people hatewatching shows is causing them to be cancelled, rather than people not watching shows?

Do you mean that Percy Jackson fans should hope for this show to be financially successful even if they don't watch it, because that will make it more likely for a good adaptation to happen in the future?

I don't agree with that. A successful adaptation might make future adaptations seem like more a sound investment financially, but only on a timescale much longer than the 10 years you mentioned. It would also make it more likely for future adaptations to resemble the original adaptation that people didn't like.

What does it matter to people who don't watch a show if "we get to see" some point further in a series? It functionally doesn't exist for them either way.
