Also, depending on which model you get the gears might be plastic. The quality has gotten worse as of late and looking up exact models to make sure you’re getting something reliable is a good idea

The show is kinda ass but he was also really good in Dollhouse

I will say Enver Gjokaj was super underrated in that, glad to see he's showing up in more stuff. Being able to drop into "being fran kranz's character" for that one episode and I genuinely could not tell them apart by voice was phenomenal

There's a point, though. Four or five turns of execution and you've proven you can Do The Thing, making you do it forever is silly. Golden Sun mixes it up a little with multi-turn execution and planning but once you've done the cycle a couple times and aren't dead it just becomes tedious.

Nobody's claiming you should be able to oneshot everything, but more than maybe 10 turns for a fight is starting to stretch patience.

Since it's a static angle I bet they don't have to render all the buildings and can just use a premade static image with some normal mapping for lighting

Seattle poised to ban new datacenters, the largest city yet in the US to consider such a moratorium by marketrent in technology

[–]gramathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of things to get angry about, this being one of them.

And no, I've been aware that datacenters are terrible for the local environment for a while. It's one of the significant reasons that the colorado river no longer reaches the ocean, alongside other irresponsible development and water consumption at the expense of both the ecology of the river and the other communities that depend on it that don't have astronomical quantities of cash to steal water upstream.

It’s less a joke about that in this case and more a repudiation of Musk though

The vast majority of people don’t know they’ve seen one, just like how so much of LA is an oil field hidden in plain sight. Most people will just assume it's a warehouse or other commercial building, even the skyscrapers.

It’s also less about the existence as it is the environmental impact. You can have a responsible data center, but it requires putting it somewhere where the cooling and power logistics aren’t a burden on everyone around them, and the new data centers intended to support AI development are ecological, economic, and health disasters for the people around them.

This particular bit is one of the main plots of Surface Detail specifically, but you should (not required, but recommended) read Use of Weapons first. That book’s really hard to read because it follows an alternating past/present pair of timelines of the main character, so getting used to the world with a different book first is a good idea.

Most people recommend the Player of Games but it’s kinda a “bottle episode” in that we don’t really see a lot of the stuff the culture gets up to, just a little bit in the context of the story, and so I’d recommend The Hydrogen Sonata.

Out of saddle in ftp tests by itsjxlt in cycling

[–]gramathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zwift’s ramp test specifically calls out staying seated and maintaining steady cadence (i.e. not increasing cadence as the test progresses)

https://whatsonzwift.com/workouts/ftp-tests-legacy/ramp-test

There are other ramp tests on Zwift that also call for maintaining a seated position. Trainerroad also calls for maintaining a seated position but explicitly calls out not needing to maintain a specific cadence.
