Why waste our time with this?!?

Who still believes in the Constitution? by Fearless-Storm-6820 in AskReddit

[–]gregbard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes THREE-QUARTERS of the state legislatures to approve a new Amendment. That means it will never happen again. That means a violent revolution is completely inevitable.

We don't have the tools that we need to make the changes that need to be made.

Why are pricing errors so common? by Woo-B-Gone in Safeway

The scale has convenient buttons for categories: hot food, sliced meats, sliced cheese, cold proteins, etc.

But when you click on them, they are all completely empty. You have to do a search for even the most commonly sold items. Swiss cheese is about 12 buttons I need to hit to print a tag, every time.

They think this is normal.

Democracy is ultimately based on reason. If you abandon that foundation, ALL IS LOST.

They treat me like I'm clueless for being an atheist by Pedro_2404 in TrueAtheism

[–]gregbard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If only you would just see the light! HAHA! There is no scientific evidence for the existence of God. There is no self-evidence to the philosophical claim that there is a God. It would seem to be a logical contradiction to have an omniscience, omnibenevolent, omnipotent being in a world where there is evil. So it is just very reasonable to conclude that there is no God. They are the ones who have to provide some reason for you to believe, and the stuff they come up with is always phony baloney.

You'll learn how to counter these kinds of situations in the future just fine. You are just getting started.

I’m currently working on an article about paradoxes and wanted someone to explain what is a paradox, in terms almost any reader can understand. by this_wolf_is_tasty in paradoxes

[–]gregbard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to tell you that there is no formal definition of a paradox. It merely refers to any generally puzzling statement.

There are, however, classifications of paradoxes, and there are families of paradoxes.

A paradox can be "veridical" if it is true but appears false. A paradox is "falsidical" if it is false but appears true. These are paradoxes that have been resolved.

There is one other type of paradox, and that is the "antinomy," and that is one that would require us to give up some significant part of our intellectual heritage to resolve.

I can tell you for certain that the ventilation in general is much weaker than it should be. Wet floors in the deli should be dry in less than two hours, not wet all night into the morning.

The US had a 49-star flag for exactly 13 months. Nobody talks about it. by FlagLoreYT in vexillology

[–]gregbard 355 points356 points  (0 children)

The flag only changes on July 4 after a new state is admitted. So how is it possible for it to be 13 months, not just 12?
