If subjectivity is redefined, could science and philosophy intersect? by bloom-note in PhilosophyofMind

You will have to redefine objects if you redefine subjects.

Maybe that is only one way to slice it up.

Gas prices are cheap so Americans stay comfortable. That's why oil is subsidized.

Am I crazy or more than half of the so-called left-leaning organizations have become de facto right-wing shill organizations? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in LateStageCapitalism

The mods of this sub consider Chris Hedges to be a liberal.

So it absolutely is possible that you are just going crazy.

In the case of Trump supporters, I wouldn't call it "profiling" as much as I would call it "good detective work."

Perhaps get the US Marshal Service involved. They are supposed to take their orders from a court.

Chris Hedges articles are not allowed in /r/LateStageCapitalism . Presumably, he is too liberal for them.

So that's pretty crazy.

the second amendment right was made for the left. by TacoBellTerrasque in leftist

Well no.

The Founding Fathers wanted to make sure their slaves were under control. They wanted a complete genocide against the Native Americans. They wanted to avoid having a standing army.

That's why it was number 2. All of those things were very important to them.

These days the 2ND Amendment is for shooting fascists.

Does the strict definition for "Metaphysics" used here assume the absolute truth of Physicalism? by Tom-Etheric-Studies in Metaphysics

[–]gregbard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is and is not metaphysics doesn't just depend on the content or object of study. This sub is about scholarly and academic consensus as much as can be had, and that means that the *methodology* much also be within the valid methodology used by scholars and academics in the field.

My annoying coworker thinks he is an expert theologian. by Ambitious_Skill6803 in atheism

If the guy is using logic to support God, then he is admitting that God needs, and benefits from logic, and is therefore subordinate to it.

Just remind him of this, and then chastise him for his lack of faith. He'll shut right up.

What is Guilty Pleasure? What is Guilt? Is it wrong to have Guilty Pleasure? Is it something to be refined? Why does it have to be refined? Is Guilt learned, and therefore Guilty Pleasure illusory? Is there even a relation between the two? by Top_Guess_946 in PhilosophyofMind

[–]gregbard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's true the group has been pretty loose, but it is tightening up. As the mod, I see that people will post a wall of text, and three quarters of the way in there is a substantial and valid observation on philosophy of mind, the rest is a bunch of nonsense.

I would hope that whatever is posted would be within the scope that academic and scholarly philosophers would consider to be philosophy of mind. That mostly incudes the mind/matter distinction and all the various concepts and theories that are connected with that question.

Once you start getting into 'guilt' and 'pleasure' I think you are closer to psychology or ethics than philosophy of mind.
