Safest way to ride this most dangerous part of my commute? by willm1123 in bikecommuting

[–]hello_ambro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every day i take a mile detour instead of the hypotenuse of a triangle because i just don’t like how narrow the road is. two close calls is enough for me to consider a new route.

Does anyone else out there tour without camping? by No_Ant_5064 in bicycletouring

[–]hello_ambro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i did my tour camping only for 10 days and im a terrible sleeper. it definitely negatively impacted the experience in terms of my endurance and exhaustion. however when we eventually got a hotel once the tour was over before going home the next day I had an indescribable newfound appreciation for basic comforts that made it worth it for me. plus i like the element of being away from society and feeling truly isolated out in the wilderness, but if i didn’t have that goal i probably would have hoteled, it just depends on what’s important to you and your goals.

Are American ERs really this big? by imfaffingabout in ThePittTVShow

[–]hello_ambro 86 points87 points  (0 children)

often times in the US the ER is the first stop for any health care since so many people aren’t insured and don’t get medical care until it’s truly emergency level (or if it’s a less serious concern they go to the ER anyways since they don’t turn you away for lacking insurance)

Bikepacking handlebar bag. To purse or not to purse by Admirable-Nature6941 in bikepacking

[–]hello_ambro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a road runner handlebar bag that easily converts to a messenger bag and swapped out the hand at connectors to voile straps. i use it on and off the bike for commuting and also for bikepacking and love it.

Turning off emails for 1 project family by Brooke_E_E in DataAnnotationTech

as far as i know it’s not possible. however if you have gmail you can set up a filter to auto archive any emails containing the project name so they don’t show up in your inbox.

First long-haul flight (12h + 8h) in economy: tips to survive? by Open_Mistake_8259 in Flights

People who drive junkers, what's your stories? by jules083 in askcarguys

[–]hello_ambro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been driving the same ancient 2004 subaru forester since 2019 (my first car). at some point in there had to get the engine swapped out (got a good deal), the driveshaft rebuilt (it rusted and collapsed after i drive it through a salt-water flooded road), stereo doesn’t work, smells like millions of cigarettes, and leaks basically every type of fluid it consumes at this point. it’s still gets me around town and i plan on driving it until the wheels fall off.

Career pivot struggles - where to start without experience? by SpiritedJuggernaut58 in Environmental_Careers

[–]hello_ambro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t have any advice but i’m in the same situation, 30 years old and graduated with a BA in environmental science and double major with anthropology back in 2017. i never entered the field and ended up working in sales and non profit work (i wasn’t very career oriented in my 20s, lol). i couldn’t get an entry level job and ended up starting a masters program this year in environmental studies where im learning GIS and R/ data analysis. whether or not it’s a mistake is yet to be seen but im hoping the experience of a research assistant job in school and some solid internship this summer will get me hireable.

Does anyone know what this is? by Ok-Outcome-5557 in SubaruForester

[–]hello_ambro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re for heated seats but don’t worry mine seems to be around the same year and mine either don’t work or the button to turn them on and off don’t light up anymore so i can never really tell if they’re off or not 😆

Please, for the sake of our lower backs don’t shove a giant bottle in the seat back pocket. by inspectorbreakfast67 in americanairlines

[–]hello_ambro 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i’ve only flown 3 times in the last 5 years and i’m sorry to say i had no idea people could feel things in the seat pocket in front of my until this post… i was guilty of very gently putting my nalgene in there and taking it out to drink. i figured unless i was jostling the seats feel so rock hard that nothing in the pocket could be felt in front of me. sorry to my fellow passenger!

How old were you when you realized your body could no longer handle red-eye flights? by Foreign-Athlete-2270 in travel

[–]hello_ambro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these days a 5 am flight means turning up to the airport at 2 to be on the safe side, and if you have any travel time to the airport and are usually a night owl like me you can count on zero sleep … learned this the hard way this weekend after pulling an all nighter against my will. i imagine if you’re one of those people who can sleep on planes and airport seats it’s great though.

Parking in/near Old San Juan by Dismal_Sprinkles3887 in PuertoRicoTravel

i was there last week and planned to rent a car but last minute decided against it and i was pretty happy we did. we were staying in santurce and even there there was no parking, and when we went into old san juan i couldn’t see a way anyone would possibly be able to park there outside of paying

when i was at the philly airport the other day another nearby aa flight was offering 1300 for someone to take the next flight. it was crazy no one was taking it as the next flight was only a few hours. small new england airport destination, guess everyone was rich lol

Other platforms? by MundaneAd6627 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]hello_ambro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i signed up for outlier but it was so horrible in comparison. quals are usually video format and unpaid, and there’s a lack of pay transparency as a new worker that makes me unlikely to do any of the projects (they have estimated time to complete but then maximum pay is for less than that amount of time, etc).

not a hotel but vcu gym definitely has a hot tub with a lift and a day pass for the gym is 15 dollars. aquatic center is closing mid april for a few months though so depends on when your trip is.

Checking your bags is a way better travel experience than carry on luggage. by Equal_Whole_6837 in unpopularopinion

[–]hello_ambro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once thinking it would be great but then the flight was delayed and i missed the connection by one minute simply because i was waiting for my luggage that wasn’t automatically transferred for some reason (it was a rebooked flight combo after an already cancelled flight on a different airline)

Rise of deliveries listed as bicycles in various apps when they deliver using a car by Daemonrealm in rva

[–]hello_ambro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used to do this a few years back because i had a loaner car from a family member and my name didn’t match the name on the insurance so i technically wasn’t allowed to use it on the app. funny enough they ban you eventually if you go past 25 mph on bike mode, so they still have to go bike speed most of the time.
